Truth is such a rare thing, it is delightful to tell it.

  1. Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32. I just learned that these are the first words in SH. After the title page and before the table of contents, there is a page with 3 quotes – the first of which is this one. It was commented that giving mankind the Truth, by which man can receive salvation (be free), was the over-arching mission of Jesus Christ. So, it is understandable that Mrs. Eddy chose it for this first statement. Truth-telling is our privilege.

    1. Thank you Linda for pointing out that these are the first words in Science & Health, before the table of contents. I’ve always love the absoluteness of this verse, it’s certainty. It says, you Shall know the truth, not you might know it, or you should try to know it or perhaps someday you’ll know it. It says you shall, shall has that certainty so it is inevitable. Truth cannot be kept from us, we express it and therefore we are free.

Thank you Evan. God is Truth, God is All.

      1. Thanks, Rose, I love the clarity and certainty that you’ve added to “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” It’s an absolute, “now” statement! Beautiful!

        1. I like to take the “shall” (or future sense of that word), out of the statement to make it: ” You know the truth and it makes you free. ”
( In other words: I know the Truth and Truth knows me; I am already free.) The absoluteness of that affirmation has me looking out from the stars, not up at them.!

  2. How nice to see this in my in-box! It didn’t come this morning, and I was going to look for it later — but here it is! I think this is applicable in many ways. There can be a way to tell truth tenderly if it seems difficult, rather than what is usually described as a “white lie”,
