Benefit from appreciating others

November 23, 2022 | 27 comments

Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.

~ Voltaire

For instance, when you see another give unselfishly, and appreciate their generous giving, you’ve accepted their acts as worthy and commendable, which in turn, will inspire you to act similarly in the future. The good you’ve seen in them and appreciated, becomes yours too.

  1. Thank you Evan.

I have just finished listening to the Sentinel Watch below.

Kate Robertson, Christian Science Practitioner mentioned the word, “appreciation” calling it an umbrella word, she went on to explain, while it means gratitude it also means growth. For example, a sum of money in an interest bank account will appreciate!

Wow! This really spoke to me about our growth in Christian Science too.

Wishing all my fellow SV’ers, across the pond, a very blessed and happy, Thanksgiving ♡

  2. Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
    Thank you for SpiritView Evan.
It has helped me so much since joining.
I appreciate you all so very much.

  3. When you see good in others it resonates with the good in you.. The whole concept reminds me “That what blessed one blessed all.”
SpiritView is a great format for that mutual blessing..
    Happy Thanksgiving to all..

  4. Thank you for all the daily contributions you have given Evan. These nuggets of truth give me impetus to work harder practicing Christian Science. All the wonderful comments and links just add to the feast of Soul and Love. I do appreciate this wonderful community who reaches out to all. A Happy Thanksgiving to everyone not just tomorrow but each day!

  5. Thank you Evan and everyone participating. Appreciating God every day even, for our “very being” is real freedom. Our connection to God who Himself is the source of abundance is real joy. Happy thanksgiving to you all.

  6. thank you Evan for this daily inspiration and mini-treatment given so generously.
And all the love shared by Spiritviewers.

  7. Evan thanks for the great Voltaire quote. I read somewhere that doing good, and even being a witness to others doing good, stimulates “feel good” chemicals in the body. So even from a merely material perspective, appreciating and basking in the good we see in others is healing. We resonate with that Good because it is natural to the children of God.

Also loved the definition of ‘appreciation’ as an increase or growth of good (as opposed to depreciation). Thanks Shelagh and also for sharing that link!

Happiness to you all. A lot to be thankful for here!

  8. Excellent thoughts! I like transferring this specifically to Christian Science study and practice. If we appreciate a Christian Science practitioner, teacher, article writer, etc. we can know we do not put them up on a pedestal, but rather regard them as a fellow spiritual brother and sister. We all come from the same divine source, Father-Mother God and have already been given the same wisdom, skill, ability as another.

As everyday, happy day of giving thanks and happy Thanksgiving. Today is big with blessings!

    1. I understand what you are saying about having the same divine source and about not putting anyone on a pedestal. If I read an article from a publication that resonates with me, or a comment here, I feel it’s important to acknowledge and thank the person for taking the time for putting forth the effort to express and share those inspiring thoughts and ideas. I’m grateful and want to show appreciation. I recently came across a list of bloggers shown on the Christian Science website. I believe there were five. Evan was the only blog that was current, and he consistently puts out a blog five days a week that reaches a world-wide audience – and he’s been doing this for years. So grateful this week gives us an opportunity to show our appreciation for SpiritView and send Evan some love!! 🙂

  9. Amen! to Voltaire, Evan’s blog, and all comments.
And I love and so appreciate the wonderful photograph above!
Sending blessings of “love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance” (Galatians 5:22) to all the world, and praise to our dear Father-Mother God for countless blessings of Truth, Life, Love, and abundance of good!
Happy Thanks-giving to SpiritView family, worldwide Christian Science congregation, and “one Father with His universal family, held on the gospel of Love.” (Science and Health p. 577:3)

  10. I love how we all are unique expressions of God, giving thanks in our own
special way, but coming together like a bouquet of floral beauty or like an
orchestra of harmony, …individuals, but each contributing in Spirit and in
Truth, either with comments or in spiritual reverence to the Love shared here.
It is a symbiotic relationship, where what blesses one, blesses all.
Thank you Evan for giving us this venue and thank you Everyone for Being
    here.

  15. HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL! We ALL have so much to be grateful for! Have a wonderful and blessed day tomorrow everyone reading this! A special thanks for Evan and what he shares with us all on this SpiritView spot Monday through Friday!

  16. Warmest thanksgiving appreciation for the Love reflected in the lovingkind work by Evan that brings about this blog, and for all the partakers/contributors. This daily blog greatly blesses the SV family but also the world. This command comes to thought as being at the core of this blog “Love your neighbor as yourself” – and the fact of its consistency, of its lasting endurance, speaks to me of the eternity of Love. Thank you always.

  17. Adding my appreciation for Evan and this wonderful family of SV readers and writers! Thank you for the reminder to express outwardly our gratitude to practitioners and other workers. We are so blessed by their work. Including all who write, and read, these wonderful blogs. Much love and all the blessings of Thanksgiving!

  18. A good time to make a donation to the upkeep of our beloved SpiritView. Click on the About page and scroll to the bottom to find the Contribute button. Giving feels good!

    1. Thank you Rose for illuminating the way, to the Contribute button. Showing/giving/hearing appreciation, and contributing adds the frosting on the whole experience. Being ABLE/WILLING/GENEROUS to give ripples back into our core of being a seeker and finder of TRUTH!
My sincere gratitude Evan and every single contributor to this venue of sharing and caring.
      HAPPY THANKSGIVING

  19. Thank you for your reminder to contribute to Spirit View for all the wonderful inspiration it gives to us all year! My gratitude for everyone’s sharing. It is such a blessing!

  20. Thank you, Rose from New York, for directions to the “contribute” button. I have wondered for quite a while how the expenses of this most wonderful, spiritual blog were covered. I was able to make a small donation, but bountiful thanks goes along with it for the 5 days a week inspirations and guidance.

I do not belong to the CS church, but it is the only one that has ever made total sense to me, teaching Christianity as I have understood it to be since I was a child. Our Father-Mother God has provided me with a series of wonderful CS friends over the years – to help, guide and share parts of their lives with me.

I have more to be Thankful for than can be written short of a long book, and I have also known for most of my life that how we live speaks much louder and more clearly than anything we write or say.

Given the above statement, true God-inspired writings and talks are and have been essential to me for continued spiritual growth.

    Blessings and Peace to all
