Conquer fear of living magnanimously

“He who is afraid of being too generous has lost the power of being magnanimous.”
~ Mary Baker Eddy, Miscellany, p. 165

Giving is a good thing. It blesses the recipient and the giver.

When you give out of the infinite resources of Love, there is no limit on how much you can give. You can live magnanimously!

  1. Thank you Evan, for the reminder of where from where good comes and flows.
And how important too to receive magnanimously, – how often do we hear “Oh you shouldn’t have” or “I don’t deserve it” or “I can’t accept it!”. Do we refuse on the basis we may feel unworthy or the giver can’t afford it? Not in God’s eyes. Would we say these things to God? It may seem a natural reaction, but it is just the same negative thought that would swing us away from the recognition of the infinite goodness of God, and our place in His heritage, as failure to freely give, “In the scientific relation of God to man, we find that whatever blesses one blesses all, as Jesus showed with the loaves and the fishes, — Spirit, not matter, being the source of supply.” SH 206:15-18. Everyone is blessed and can share in the joy of giving and receiving.

    1. Lovely to know that we have the infinite resources of Love to share freely. Thank you Even.
And thank you Ken for reminding us that it works the other way around also – this is also very important. If someone is freely giving to us, then we need to be grateful and accept gracefully whatever is being given, then we are all blessed. People often say to me – “Oh! you didn’t need to bring that” or ” you shouldn’t have”. Since everything belongs to God and He is pouring His gifts of Love on us in infinite supply, we need to enjoy giving and receiving all good, and thanking God.

  2. These thoughts inspired about not hiding our candle under a bushel, but letting our light shine. We never know what simple act of kindness may be just what is needed by someone at that moment, be it a smile to a stranger or thoughts shared with a friend. Thank you for the reminder, Evan, that Love is limitless.

  3. Hymn 148 is one of my favorites. It begins with “In heavenly Love abiding, No change my heart shall fear:” My daughter left this week for a 3-month trip in her motorhome to Alaska and I volunteered to house sit and take care of her two 16-year old cats. She’s had them since birth and they are her most treasured possessions. Building up to this offer whenever I felt any trepidation I referred to this beloved hymn. Love is surrounding us 24/7 and my daughter is enjoying a long awaited trip of a lifetime. My heart is overflowing with gratitude for this opportunity to express my love.

    1. So wonderful, Lori! Your daughter is surrounded by love, and her kitties are in good hands!

      1. My mom often looked after my cats and I really appreciated her doing this. It also gave her a feeling of being useful and a new outlook on life.
        Moms are very kind.

  4. Thanks, Evan, The thought of Giving is so important. Giving from the heart is true giving and it doesn’t matter if it’s giving a compliment, a smile, a hug, our time, or a gift of some kind. When thought is generous and ready to give there is always someone to receive it. And we must also be ready to be the recipients of good, wherever it comes from! Thanks to all for your words.

  5. Thank you Evan. Yes out of Love there is one giving and taking, blessing both!
Cannot find the word “magnanimous” in my English/German dictionary. Is it like “abundantly”?
Sometimes Giving is more joyful than Taking.
