Conquer fear to stay healthy

Fear is the fountain of sickness….

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 391

To stay healthy, live free of fear.

This is doable when one understands the omnipotence and omnipresence of God.

Like swimming in the middle of the ocean, you don’t fear being dry because you have water all around you.  Everywhere you turn, there’s more water to swim in.

The same rule applies to living your eternal spiritual life with God.  Everywhere you go and in everything you do, God is there, supporting and sustaining you with everything you need to keep living your eternal spiritual life.

When you consciously live in the omnipresence and omnipotence of God, reasons to fear vanish. God is always there, you know.  The help you need is always present, you feel.  The temptation to be afraid withers away.  Calm remains.  You abide in fearless being.

This is all good, because with no fear there is no “fountain of sickness,” that Eddy mentions.  Health prevails.

  1. Our spirits were lifted this weekend with our ASSOCIATION meeting was this past Saturday and then of course church Sunday and I always end with Joel Osteen he is so close to being a Christian scientist if you ever listen to him you can hear it in his speaking. AND what a lovely way to end the weekend with what you’ve given us to think about because clearly, f e a r, false evidence appearing real must be conquered and set aside because it is nothing to fear. I enjoy Spirit view immensely! THANK you Evan for being a pastor to those of us that know Spirit view exists. THANK you so much ,much

  2. I have always wondered about this. Is it that fear is the “fountain of sickness” or is it that fear is the “obstacle to healing”? When an illness presents itself to mortal mind, which you may have not feared or even known about, the first thing to overcome is the fear of the belief. Fear has its foundation in “the unknown”. So Like Evan points out, fear is the first false belief to be conquered. Get quiet, affirm the “omnipotence and omnipresence of God”, listen and demonstrate.

    1. I think fear can manifest as both a belief of discord and what prevents the realization of harmony. The former was expressed by Job:

Job 3:25 For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.

  3. Thank you, Evan and all. To echo the message above, Mrs. Eddy writes in
    S&H pg.287,
“We call the absence of Truth – error. Truth and error are unlike.
In Science, Truth is divine, and the INFINITE God can have no unlikeness.
Did God, Truth, create error? No!
‘Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?’
    God being everywhere and all-inclusive,
how can He be absent or suggest the absence of omnipresence and
omnipotence? How can there be more than ALL?”
This leaves no place for sickness or fear or inharmony, when all – ALL/God
    is filling all space.

  4. So true Evan..thank you for the reminder. I love the analogy of swimming in the water that God is all around us no matter what ..so helpful when fear seems to be dominating, I’m holding on!

  5. Evan thanks for, “You abide in fearless being”. Abide is from the word abode which refers to our home, where we reside, remain, stay. It brought to mind the line in Psalm 91 that says we abide under the shadow of the Almighty, no fear there. God is the fountain of mental health, spiritual health, physical health — Health.

I just came across some thoughts I had written down a while back:
    – “Health is a spiritual quality.” “Health has nothing to do with a body.”
Then came two quotes from S&H:
    – (p. 120) “Health is not a condition of matter, but of Mind; nor can the material senses bear reliable testimony on the subject of health.” (p. 120)
    – (p. 412) “Mentally insist that harmony is the fact”. (and I added- “because it is.”)

I appreciate so much having thought guided into Truth. Sometimes it doesn’t seem like it, but I think that even one clear correct spiritual thought can do a lot. Every right thought is one less wrong thought.

  6. John 4:14 says “…. the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” The Christ, a pure fountain of holy knowing in us, is just continuous unfolding of unopposed goodness. But in Science and Health we learn that evil always “apes” or mimics truth and goodness. So it would say evil thoughts are flowing into our consciousness, or that evil thoughts form the fountain in our consciousness. Like Martin Luther said, “it’s not your fault if a bird flies over your head, but you don’t need to let it make a nest in your hair!” I am learning that dominion over these thoughts is to become very familiar with my innocence and the innocence of everyone. The bad thoughts are nobodies fault. As we learn that we are in a never ending ocean of Love, we will know we are not afraid that we, or anybody, is“on the verge of getting dry”.

    1. Thank you Kay for your thoughts. I especially appreciated your statement: “I am learning that dominion over these thoughts is to become very familiar with my innocence and the innocence of everyone.” I needed the reminder.

    2. I agree, Kay, J , and Sally, especially with the thoughts on innocence. There
seem to be so many “influencers” of anything but – innocence, in the world
today and sadly it leads many down a path of thoughts taken over by
materialism – trying to sell a product or persuade young people or anyone
to be something they could never be, but dangled in front of us with what
is temporary, never truly satisfying, but mortal and false.
Thank you for sharing these thoughts. It is like the dream, Kay, that you
had mentioned in the 7/26 comment, where you flew above the matter-dream.

  7. To Gwen in Kansas: I’ve also thought that Joel’s sermons are very Christian Science, very spiritual
and about healing, with references to the Bible.
