Defend against mental malpractice

January 20, 2021 | 22 comments

An important rule for success in the Christian Science healing work, is to keep one’s thought free of mental malpractice.

I share some ideas in this video about how to stay free of mental malpractice and keep one’s thought in a positive spiritual place. There’s a rule you can apply and put into practice!

This video was filmed while Kathy and I were visiting the Deadhorse Ranch State Park near Cottonwood, Arizona, in October of 2020.

Defend yourself against mental malpractice

  1. It’s so nice to see some of the beautiful places you visit Evan. Also, so tranquil today emphasising the calmness and certainty of the result we can expect from adhering to your message.
It’s important that we don’t get caught up in any mental error. Plus by protecting ourselves we are in the right place to help others.
‘Thy Kingdom come! Let the rule of Divine Life ,Truth and Love be established in me and rule out of me all sin. And may Thy Word enrich the affections of All Mankind and govern them!’ MMC pg41
    Blessing to all❣️

  2. This is wonderful Evan, thank you so much!

Like Barbara, I have been working with the Daily Prayer and recently thought, it’s the sense of self, which is “seeing” sin. So I took the liberty of changing one word, for my own contemplation. I find it helpful to say “and rule out of me all self”

I will be watching your video again, I felt such a lift in thought.

    1. Thank you Evan, for the glorious picture, and everything beautifully reflected in the calm water.
So when we are as calm as that water, and accept only the divine Mind as our Mind, we are also able to reflect all the goodness and beautiy of God, and there is no mortal mind or false aggressive
      suggestions that can harm us.

“Ruling out of me all self” is a good way of utilising the Daily Prayer. I like that idea, Shelagh When I pray with this Daily Prayer, it tells me to step back, and lose sight of personal sense for myself and all mankind, and let God govern us all. God is, and must be the only Ego, and man as His image and likeness is only the reflection of this Ego. We can’t do anything of ourselves, as even Jesus told us he couldn’t.do anything of himself, but only reflect what God was doing.

    2. Wonderful Spiritview Evan! I also very much like replacing “sin” with “self” in the Daily Prayer Shelagh -wonderful idea! :). Just love all the ideas expressed here by the Spiritview community! 🙂

  3. I had a feeling that I was being attacked by one problem after another a couple of weeks ago, but when I asked God for a neutralising thought on that I got “There is no division in the Kingdom of Heaven” I thought that was a good concept to accept.

  4. I wrote a poem yesterday having our country doing the speaking.
This is part of what was said. And maybe I should not send it. But
it is written as our country praying The Daily Prayer as we might
    be praying it.
    Hope I didn’t overstep, Evan

I have a prayer I say every day…it is a Daily Prayer, (Country speaking)

“Thy kingdom come,” let the reign/rule
of divine Truth, Life, and Love be
established in me, (country) and rule
out of me (our country) all sin, (dislike of
each other, verbal utterings, you know!)
and may Thy (God’s word, not what you
are conjuring up) enrich the affections
(a gentle feeling of fondness or liking)
This next part is what I want you to think
about…all mankind, and govern them MBE
    Thanks, your Country

    1. Very inspiring and helpful, M, Thank you! I was thinking this morning that divine, Supreme Principle and Love are reigning and governing our country and all its citizens, our brothers and sisters.
And thanks, as always, to Evan, for his unstoppable inspiration that he so self-less-ly shares with us!

  5. “Christian Scientists, be a law unto yourselves that mental malpractice cannot harm you either when asleep or when awake.” This is something I’ve been including in my daily prayers. Something I recently read really helped me get a clearer understanding of it. It said something to the effect that, “woman(everyone) is Divine Principle by expression” Immediately I thought of the mental malpractice quote, that’s it! Divine Principle is God, all. I am God’s very reflection. That’s how I am “…a law unto yourself..” by my effortless, natural, inherent reflection of God, Good. For me it took it out of something I need to do and put it in the light of what I cannot help but do by reflection of Divine Principle, God, be totally unaffected by mental malpractice. A law unto myself. I love the natural unfolding of deep understanding in Christian Science. I’ve learned to not worry when I know I’m not quite understanding something. I keep going and eventually what I really wanted to understand is made perfectly clear to me by a thought, something I read, something someone says, etc. This is all the still small voice of God. I’m so very grateful to be on this journey with God.

    1. Trista, thanks for emphasizing the naturalness and effortlessness of the unfolding of “being a law unto thyself.” It can seem so hard when we think we have to DO something, or MAKE something happen. I seem to get overwhelmed thinking it’s too hard, what if I forget to defend myself. It’s too much when seen from a human, mortal perspective of human doing and having to fight off error. But as you say, we are naturally, effortlessly reflecting God, we cannot help it. That law is fully operating, we don’t control it, just recognize and rest in it. That takes a weight off!

Also praying today here in the US on Inauguration Day of our new President (and every day) to see that all of God’s Children cannot help but express their God-given nature of Peace.

  6. Thank you, Evan! This Truth and Intelligent guidance you’ve shared with such clarity, is like receiving a healthy dose of fresh oxygen to our ‘Be-ingness’. Thank you for this daily “dose” today!

  7. “It shall be the duty of every member of this Church to pray each day: “Thy kingdom come;” let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in me, and rule out of me all sin; and may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind, and govern them!
(Manual of The Mother Church, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 41:19 It)
When praying the Daily Prayer I often substitute “demonstrate” for “established”. This reminds me to be grateful and to remember who I really am…not what the world thinks I am.
My Daily Prayer often becomes something like: Thy kingdom is come. Thank you for the demonstration of Love I am able to express because I am your child. Let me see my neighbors in the same true light.

  8. Evan, your video brings with it “the calm, strong currents of true spirituality”,- the unction of Love that establishes in us the mental poise necessary to recognize and reject the aggressive, and sometimes subtle suggestions of a supposed mind opposed to God. Thank you for urging us to keep alert! We know that the Mind that is God expresses in his offspring peace, love, confidence, clarity, health, vitality, joy, unity, and strength, and none of these qualities can be taken from us! Joining you all in this recognition today!!

  9. Thank you, Evan, for the absolutely beautiful photography and the inspiring message.
Thank you to the community for the helpful comments – much needed and appreciated.

  10. Excellent as always – and your travels always fascinating. Encouraging to view during lockdown. We all look forward to being out and about again. Thanks Evan
