Make God smile

January 21, 2021 | 26 comments

Have you ever witnessed a family member, friend, or co-worker do something gloriously unselfish and inspiringly good that you couldn’t help but smile big with joy and delight? Perhaps they performed far above expectations, gave of themselves extra generously, or were quick to run to someone’s aid in time of need. Whatever the cause, it makes the world a better place when people do things that bring a smile to other people’s faces.

In the same way that other people’s good deeds bring a smile to your face, your good deeds bring a smile to God’s face.

When you do something kind for a neighbor, God smiles. When you treat your family with extra care, God smiles. When you give unselfishly to those in need, God’s smile is wide and cheerful.

God rejoices over all the good you do, and finds great delight in it.

Life is a joy when we’re doing things that please God, for God’s delight is our inspiration.

When God is smiling, we’ll be smiling.

Make God smile big today!

  1. Thank you, Evan. It makes me think of this from Science & Health from page 192: “The good you do and embody gives you the only power obtainable.”

  2. I’m so grateful. My heart is overflowing with thankfulness for all the support I have received from your blog as I work through some big challenges that my family and I are experiencing.

  3. How beautiful! … and what an endearing picture to accompany your post! Thank you so much, Evan, as always, as every day…

  4. You made me smile with this blessed message today, Evan; I’m sure it made God smile too! Loved, “God’s delight is our inspiration.”

Even small gestures and kindnesses can mean more to people than we might imagine. God puts us here as vehicles through which He can pour out His love to those around us, and in the process we too are blessed. Love to all!

  5. This reminds me of how ‘inclusive’ we must be regarding others…we are all Gods ideas…all expressing various qualities from Gods endless gifts of Life and Love.
So lovely to think that when we smile God does too…❣️

    1. I am Thankful beyond words to Evan and all within this precious community, knowing that the Light radiates outward, warming, lighting dark corners, blessing all with the Love we reflect and share.

  6. Dear Evan.
As everyone says about your blogs. They are always so apt.
Your strength is prevalent in every statement you make. So clear and obvious. They leave no doubt. God has a huge smile for you, no doubt. I haven’t missed any of your blogs for several years. And they have raised me out of a hospital experience. My gratitude constantly flows out to all your followers. They also have such inspiring ideas, most of the articles I have opened and read. Thank you to all of my special friends who come and go, and leave their healing ideas for us all to be blessed in deep remarkable ways.
    My gratitude grows constantly.
    Thank you all.

  7. I went to pick up lunch the other day and when I got to the cashier to pay for our meal he (the cashier) said, no payment needed as the person up ahead of you has bought your lunch today. That really made me smile. Such an expression of love from a total stranger. Knowing the source of all good is God, I felt extra loved.

  8. My prayer some daily good to do
An offering pure of love where to God leadeth me.
Not sure what hymn this is from but supports your welcome blog.
A great start to a new year..Spiritview is a helpful uplift each day.
    Thanks Evan

  9. Such a sweet smile on the face of the precious child above. In a world of masks of late, hiding smiles, it is refreshing to see such joy in this little girl’s expression of Love.
I am reminded of Mrs. Eddy’s Pond and Purpose (Misc. Writings: 203 ) where she was thanking her beloved students for the pond at Pleasant View…” From my tower window, as I look on this smile of Christian Science, this gift from my students and their students, it will always mirror their love, loyalty and good works. Solomon saith, “As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.”
Random acts of kindness, even if just a smile towards someone, can go a long way in sharing this Love.

  10. A recollection of my mother that must make God smile. We lived in a very modest home and seemed we were always a dollar short. My dear mother thought it would be helpful to our budget to have a garage sale. She organized things stored in the garage, put a small classified ad in the newspaper, and put out flyers in the neighborhood. On the day of the sale she was suddenly called to help a sick friend. When I arrived home from my job she wasn’t there, but the garage was open, items were displayed in the driveway, and there was a note she left on a table…”Please take what you want and leave what you think it’s worth”.

Evan, thank you for all the love you share, and the great joy you radiate,- Ted Freeman for your touching testimony,- and all Spiritview friends for their precious comradery.

  11. My dear best friend had on her license plate, “Smile. God loves you!” Indeed, we can always smile and sparkle. I’m sparkling now because of the love, warmth and unity expressed yesterday during the safe transfer of power of our Inauguration.

    1. PS. Mark Sappenfield, editor of the CS Monitor, is also sparkling in his powerful and inspired article in the Jan. 6, 2021 CS Sentinel, “A Spiritual Response to Political Division and Upheaval”. Sorry I cant provide the link on jshonline. Enjoy!

  12. Thank you for making spirituality accessible to everyone, and not just the CS community. That is so very important and making it simple and presentable. CS is so simple, it’s Love-that’s all it is.

  13. Thank you for your timely reminder to be joyful when I am helping others and grateful for the good I see expressed by others.

  14. One day my nephew and his wife, my daughter and I went to the wharf in Santa Cruz to throw flowers into the water and create a ceremony for his departed mother. After throwing the flowers in, I looked up and there was the most beautiful UPSIDE DOWN rainbow. It was certainly a big Divine smile in the sky.
    It was glorious!
    Thank you Evan and all.

  15. This picture reminds me of an experience I had a few years ago. I lived where it snowed and I had a long driveway to shovel. I am a very senior citizen and had to tackle the job in 3 stages and rest in between. One day I was sitting on the seat of my car with the door open taking my first break. A young man in pickup stopped, got out and asked for my shovel. I had never seen him before. He completed the task and refused any payment. It sure put a smile on my face and in my heart!!!

  16. Such a loving and innocent picture up here! Thank you very much , Evan for this SpiritView full of Love and kindness!
” God’s delight is our inspiration” – such a wonderful spiritual idea of Love!
“When God is smiling we’ll be smiling”. This lovely idea causes a bright smile on my face!
I hope I bring bright smiles upon God’s face – haha – thanks a lot Evan!
Thanks for all the wonderful and interesting comments here! ♡♡♡

  17. Thank you all for your inspiring responses!
This line from Hymn #291 came to me: “Pleased with all the pleaseth Thee.”
Thank you, Evan, for inspiration that meets so many needs.

  18. ThANK YOU! And the surge of energy and inspiration here seems to say this is the way to go – the order of things.

  19. Thanks to Evan for all his inspiring blogs which for sure bring smiles to the faces of all his readers and God must be smiling now too as each of us expresses our gratitude.
