Do you hear the singing?

When the Trees Sing

When the trees sing,
It doesn’t really matter
If you know the song,
Or if you know the words,
Or even if you know the tune.
What really matters is knowing
That the trees are singing at all.

  1. This poem is wonderful. I am beginning to open to the Holy Spirit’s voice in nature, I am beginning to be amazed by what I am seeing and feeling. Yesterday I was skiing, coming down through the snowy woods (cross country.) I fell at the bottom of the decline, and lay sprawled in the snow looking up. I was not hurt. I looked up into the trees and something opened in me, and I *saw* the beings, heard and felt the sheer love of the trees for me. They were alive! Not separate from me! They were like mighty benign beings, friends, helping to actually guide me. I lay there amazed, and grateful. Later on in my skiing, I stopped beside a rocky cliff, and listened to them. Their strength and massive stability seemed to be whispering to me! This had never happened, it was a newness of the Holy Spirit in nature that I had never experienced. The whole cosmos was loving me.

  2. As a mental health therapist, I find this awareness of life and love being everywhere and in all is the root of depression and anxiety. Getting people to become aware of Love and Life as always present is key to healing. I find the understanding of God’s “beingness” as the foundation of the healing work I do in my profession. This poem and Laurie’s comments say it well. Susan Crowe
