One of the glorious teachings of Christian Science is its clear explanation that all good is spiritual, having its origin and location in God. Health, life, vision, hearing, understanding, strength, energy, purpose, value, worth, all originate in Spirit and remain in Spirit. We find ourselves expressing these qualities through the body but the body does not contain these qualities or originate them. They derive from Spirit, remain in Spirit, and keep coming from Spirit to us as children of God, now and forever. We never lose them, and they can never be destroyed by matter, for matter is not the source or manager of them. God is! The spiritual goodness of God is forever ours to express and enjoy.
Which brings me to a thought-provoking statement by Mary Baker Eddy, “The only power of evil is to destroy itself. It can never destroy one iota of good” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 186). It follows that disease cannot destroy health, for health is spiritual. Age cannot deprive us of vision, for vision has nothing to do with age. It’s spiritual, sustained by divine Mind. Anger cannot destroy love, for God is Love, and Love knows no anger. The only destruction evil can wreak is against itself. It can never touch the goodness of God which is immortal.
So, harbor no fear of evil. Find your All-in-all in the goodness of God, in Spirit, where your goodness is safe and secure now and forever.
Evil is no threat to God’s goodness, anymore than darkness is a threat to light. The Light of God shines on to evil’s demise.

My take on visualization is that holding to the true image or picture of God’s child involves ideas, qualities, involves the way He “sees” us, more of a heart seeing. It’s hard to picture spiritual things like Joy, Peace, Harmony, Kindness, Love, Goodness, in the ordinary way that we mentally “picture” things. We study about what God’s man consists of and then affirm that each of us can only express that. Then our experience will reflect that. Easier said than done, but our learning and progress continues….

It even shows in passages in the end of this article about what church really is, nameely “a spiritual idea of God” which has already all qualities in it to prosper through God and his Christ!.
Thank you J for sharing this article. My first “aha” was about the material seed containing all it needs, a basis of heredity or DNA, is a counterfeit of the spiritual idea of creation/man as containing all right ideas.
The second thought that I appreciated was seeing the earth through the spiritual definition given in Science and Health. that it too is constantly supplied by our creator with all right ideas.

I struggle with anxiety and the tendency to “catastrophize” the remotest possibilities. I awoke from a terrifying dream about my own mortality this morning and the first thing I saw in my email was your post, Evan. THANK YOU for what seemed to be absolutely a direct response to my suffering. I have a fair knowledge of Christian Science and I often try to calm and comfort myself with Mary Baker Eddy’s words in one of her hyms, “False fears are foes, Truth tatters those when understood.” Your message today is helping me to take another step toward trying to really understand this idea so I can maybe start to actually believe in it.
I relate with you completely. I also struggle with anxiety but Christian Science is helping me & I’m trying to increase my understanding of it. Evan’s emails are a great way to start the day. I appreciate him so much & all the comments.
Dearest Cynthia and Janet, I am here to tell you both that you are on the right track to END your anxiety, your ‘terrifying’ dreams and fears permanently–panic attacks and crippling anxiety brought me into CS for which I’m so grateful, yet a few years ago, I was struck again, so severely that I ended up in the ER twice! Even briefly being on medication, yet still knowing CS was my answer and it was. I knew in my heart that my loving Father would NEVER bring this on and that’s true for everyone, including you two. I rejoice that you are ALREADY free from this cruel error–peace and tranquility are your’s now. Much love from one who’s ‘been there’.
