Don’t fear hatred

April 2, 2013 | 6 comments

Someone called for help to protect himself from the vicious attack of a co-worker venting cruel hatred at him. The caller was terrified of the evil being slung his way, and was groping for ways to fend it off and spare pain and suffering.
As I listened, I realized that this person was harboring great fear of this hatred. I decided that was the first error we needed to address.
I said something to the effect of, “Don’t see hatred as a power, like a military force armed to the hilt able to attack you with guns and tanks. See it as no power. Strip hatred of its only influence, which is fear of it. When you lose your fear, it loses its threat. See it not as a real thing, but as an empty hole, an abyss of spirituality and love. It’s like a deep dark hole that needs to be filled up. It’s the claim of an empty mental hole where God does not exist. Pour on the love, fill the hole with the love of divine Love, and watch the enemy disappear.”
The caller’s attitude instantly changed. He lost his fear. Calm took over. He got focused on expressing Love, rather than fearing hate. Last I heard, the threat vanished and the suffering was gone.

  1. Wish I had this several years ago in a similar situation. My consolation is that quote from Isaiah that I will paraphrase:” I will restore the years the locust hath eaten”… and I have seen this to be true.

  2. I’m looking at the idea of unemployment in a similar light to hatred… eliminate the fear and fill up the hole with love.

  3. Your blogs are so real good food for thought. Each time fear or guilt comes to me I remember to put them into practice. Like for instance I was led to say “I’m sorry” to my room neighbor because noises might disturb her while friends will be around to help me pack my stuff. Unknowingly she replied that I disturbed her sleep twice the last night with the corridor doors that swung each time I pass through it while riding my motored chair. I asked for her apology and then after that I felt guilty feeling self-pity that I am not walking normally. But then I remembered that what is very important is not what others think but what I think. So I prayed to know that divine Love fills all consciousness and how God loves her too. Then I was freed from guilt and fear. and this morning I felt good! Thanks Evan for sharing us your best!

  4. Mortal Mind does the hating. The only Mind there is, is God. Paraphrasing “let this Mind be in you as it is in Christ.”
When mortal mind speaks, nothing is being said. And also what President FDR said, “The only thing to fear is fear itself.”

  5. I recently heard it said that if you’re afraid of something, that’s a sure sign it isn’t real. And then there’s the less familiar acronym for FEAR: Forgetting Everything About Reality.

  6. Thanks Evan. Martha Willcox has some interesting recollections about what Mrs. Eddy told her on handling malpractice in We Knew Mary Baker Eddy. It reminds me of what you said here. As for fear, I always heard it mentioned as “false evidence appearing real.”
    Thanks for all you do.
