Don’t fear other people’s sickness

April 27, 2010 | 3 comments

Over the last century, the medical community has taught the population to fear germs, bacteria and viruses, and also taught people to get sick if they are exposed to them.

From what I understand, people already have these organisms in their body anyway, but that doesn’t really matter. It’s what is going on in one’s thinking that determines one’s state of health. And if one believes they’re going to get sick when exposed, they will likely get sick.

So, don’t believe it!

Counter any suggestion of impending illness with the spiritual facts of being.

Health is not at the mercy of germs, bacteria and viruses.

Health is a function of spirituality, not materiality. It’s just as spiritual as love.

Do you fear losing love if a grumpy person is standing next to you? I doubt it.

If you believed another person’s attitude controlled your attitude, you might fear losing love. But that would be pure ignorance of the true nature of Love. Love is not a person’s attitude. Love is God, Spirit, an eternal presence that is never lost.

The same rule applies to health.

Health is God’s status manifest through us. It is eternal and immortal. It is never lost, weakened or exposed to potential harm or loss.

What someone else believes or is experiencing does not affect your health status. God keeps feeding you health and maintaining your health no matter what another human thinks, believes or feels.

Germs and bacteria have no more power to rob one of health than thought attaches to them.

So, never fear disease! Shove the suggestion of danger out of thought and replace it with spiritual truth.

Health is permanent, fixed, built into your being forever. It is never lost or infringed upon.

You are not a sponge soaking in other people’s fears and false beliefs. You are as a light bursting radiant health into the surround of which you circulate.

The God-powered health you reflect is what controls your experience, not the ignorant fears of other people.

When the condition is present which you say induces disease, whether it be air, exercise, heredity, contagion, or accident, then perform your office as porter and shut out these unhealthy thoughts and fears. Exclude from mortal mind the offending errors; then the body cannot suffer from them.” Mary Baker Eddy

  1. Thanks so much for your thoughts. I realized I was accepting the belief that a relative’s actions could make me irritable and this irritation could make me sick. It all goes back to “accepting the belief.” Oh, to realize God is the one and only loving power over all–relatives included.

  2. Thank you for your thoughts!

A while back I went to visit a friend. She was telling me that she was sick and didn’t want me to catch what she had.

The whole drive up I worked on the belief of contagion. This led to working with the idea that all I have comes ONLY from God. Friends, relatives, anyone I come in contact with cannot give or take away anything. My only source is God.

I also worked on my name. In the Bible name signifies someone’s nature. Adam had no authority to name anything. God had already given everything its name/nature.

God has already given me MY nature. No belief of sickness could ever change that.

Needless to say, the time with this friend went very well. The next morning I woke with a feeling of a scratchy throat (the same thing that she had felt early on in her belief)

I could not for an instant accept that I could catch a sickness. I already knew what my name/nature is. I already knew what my only source is. The symptom quickly disappeared and health continued as it naturally should.
