Don’t participate in hurry

Have you ever felt rushed by people around you who are always in a big hurry?

Perhaps they are behind in getting their tasks done, but you are not behind in your schedule so there’s no need for you to feel rushed, but the pressure coming from them makes you feel rushed anyway?

Here’s a response I picked up from a gentleman who wondered how to deal with the rush-rush mentality he didn’t want to be harried by. He replies either silently or verbally, “I’m not part of your hurry!” and he continues to walk unrushed along his peaceful path.

  1. What a great response and I’m going to start applying it to the various suggestions to rush-rush that come my way!

  2. Thank you!! Wonderful!!

Just yesterday I was walking quickly in the cold (it was like 27 degrees and I was dressed for church — not warmly enough!)

And another church member said to me, “hurry hurry hurry.”

I said, “God is not in a hurry. I’m not in a hurry. Hurry is “error.” We can walk quickly, or swiftly. But not in a hurry.”

She said that was just what she needed to hear.

  3. I like the idea of firmly speaking the truth to error with authority our words come from divinely led love for ourselves and for the hearer, and are not simply a snide-sounding comeback. As long as we impersonalize the belief of hurry, and speak with a genuinely warm smile that wells up from our kind heart, then we’re helping heal the belief of hurry instead of causing a mortal reaction. 🙂

  4. The above comment should read: “I like the idea of firmly speaking the truth to error with authority when our words…”

  5. A friend reminded me one day when I felt pressed about time, “to hurry is to be afraid” I like to think that Love keeps us unafraid to move forward in Her good intentions for each of us every moment.
