Final outcomes in God’s hands

August 13, 2025 | 22 comments

We may throw the dice, but the Lord determines how they fall.

~ Proverbs 16:33, NLT

The human mind thinks its in control and determining its own fate for good or bad by the “roll of the dice” it throws, but its actions are all in the realm of the temporal, here today, gone tomorrow.

What we have with God, is forever.

The temporal passes away.  The eternal remains.  God has the final say.

  1. Today’s message from you, Evan, brought to mind the term “dicey”. And the definition of that word tell us

” it is an informal adjective that means risky, uncertain, or potentially dangerous. It describes situations or outcomes that are not guaranteed and could have negative consequences.”

Throwing the dice is what happens in some gambling
games, and it is dependent on luck. It certainly cannot produce any certainty for us.

As Evan says, what we have from God is forever.
He is certain to provide us with all we need every moment forever. We can totally rely on God’s Law of Love, and this is the wisest thing to do.

    1. Hi Maggie, your comments dove-tail with our lesson of yesterday on trust, and I could hear Mark Swinney’s absolute trust in God.

        1. I have just twigged – you were talking about SW when you said the Lesson yesterday.
, John. I didn’t know because I can’t hear well enough to listen to SW, or to any other audio offering.

          1. Maggie, I will aid as best possible. I will put in a separate post on yesterday’s thread – a transcription and put a link, as I have not seen email addresses being shared here.

I am at Aroostook County, Northern Maine, wth variable cell phone signal, so it will be a few days. In short, take one step at a time agreeing with God. Be willing to let your thoughts and feelings be lead by God, and then embrace what he tells you to do. MBE “Step by step will those that trust Him find that ‘God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

            Cheers, Joy

          2. Thank you very much, John – that is really kind of you. I will look out for it later on after our Testimony Meeting. I am in U.K.

          3. Yes, I realised after that yu said it may be a few days. I will remember tokeep looking.
            Blessings, Maggie

      1. Listened twice to that SW yesterday. It is truly excellent. I love how Evan and Mark teach us HOW to pray about something…..or give us ideas as to how to go about it. So grateful for all the good ideas and tools on this journey. ❣️

          1. Thank you very much, Cheril. This is readable here. And it is an awesome article, clearly explaining the nothingness of fear and how we can pray with very helpful passages from the Bible and from Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy to understand this nothingness and how to address it prayerfully with Truth!

Thank you dearly, Evan for the wonderful verse from Proverbs. very comforting!
And what we have with God is forever. Such an abundance!
Our eternal God is allpower and everpresence and therefore He has the final say!

  2. Love the thought of outcomes being in God’s hands. Thank you, one and all
for these lovely reminders. For a while, my neighbor and I had someone
doing scratch-offs, (games of chance), they would buy and sit in his driveway
and discard on his lawn or near mine. Prayerfully knowing that litter such
as this is not in accordance with harmony and beauty, it stopped and is
no longer an issue. In the article above mentioned, “Divine Mind lovingly
governs a person’s thought, feeling, and action can calm fear” – and this
Divine Mind is the eternal, where God has the final say.

  3. In listening to an audiochat yeserday – wish they still had those – on depression, the practitioner said with great confidence, “There is always a solution.” That simple truth was really comforting. There is always a divine solution. That’s great to know when we are facing knotty problems. Yes – there’s a solution to this conundrum even if it’s not clear yet. I can leave the outcome to God. Sometimes I think well it’s going to be entertaining, or a spiritual adventure, to see how God solves this one.

In an NYU writing class the professor told us there are 4 ways a book can end: the character-hero gets what he wants and is happy, gets what he wants and is unhappy, doesn’t get what he wants and is unhappy, and doesn’t get what he wants and is happy. When we leave the outcome in God’s hands, praying Thy will be done, we can not get what we want and still be happy. And usually happier than if we’d decided the outcome.

  4. Dear Lindajane, I also thank you for your inspiring and interesting comment! It’s nicely said and it’s so true! ♡

Dear J. , thank you for the inspiring article by Elise Moore, as originally you gave it to us! It’s really wonderful! ♡
