Are you looking for a good friend? Then look no further. You have a friend to find in every person you meet when you look for Christ.
Christ is the best friend you could ever have, and the most reliable.
Christ is the presence of God. It is the perfect man of God’s creating who is loving, kind, generous, wonderful company, fun to be around and a delight to know.
Christ is never missing from your life. Christ is not invisible or hard to find. Christ is not lost or remote to your experience. Christ is where you are. Christ is where your neighbor is. Christ is where everyone is. Wherever you go, whoever you meet, whatever you do, Christ is there. Your best friend is always with you to be acknowledged and appreciated.
Honor your best friend by always looking for Him in everyone you meet or in whoever your thought rests upon.
If someone walks up to you with a scowl on their face, reject the outward picture, and remember that Christ is in that person giving him the ability to lighten up, find something to be grateful for and to reflect joy and happiness.
If a co-worker gets mad at you, reject the outward picture and know that Christ is in that person giving them the ability to mellow out, see the good going on, to forgive, to work with you in one Mind and to move on with joy in their heart.
If a buddy or girlfriend is sick, reject the physical picture and replace it with spiritual truth. See Christ in them giving them health and strength.
God’s family is wide and large. Every family member exists to express Christ fully and abundantly. Personal encounters are our opportunity to see the child of God in every person we meet, to see Christ within, to find a friend.
Jesus said, “I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you” John 14:20, NLT. Christ is in everyone. Keep your spiritual eyes wide open and search for your best friend in every person you meet. Your best friend is closer than you think.
Thank you!
Thank you Evan.
This is a simple message for me to put into practise.
I must be more watchful and look more earnestly for the Christ in everyone. This will be a fun time for me.
Thank you, Evan, reminds me of Pierre Pradervand’s basic text on the Gentle Art of Blessing
https://gentleartofblessing.org/the-text
and the Aramaic translation “love your neighbour who IS yourself”
What a lovely post and apt for the day, addressing my very need… Evan you are great… All the time your thought must be so attuned with God, that your inspirations bless all of us daily, come as answers and all our needs are met.
I was very much missing a friend since morning, but after reading your post today, I feel so comforted. Yes my friend is closer to me than I think and I do see the Christ in that friend. Thank you so very much indeed.
Another thing I loved is that you are so graciously asking us Evan, to cancel out the material picture which is a lie – viz. a scowl thrown, the anger expressed, the picture of a sick friend and replace these with the correct pictures, the Christ likeness which exists in one and all.
Very often we make a reality of something that is not true..But the moment we see everyone in the light of Christ, Truth…in their real and spiritual nature.. the darkness of the wrong picture dispels and we see the pure, perfect, sinless, spotless image of God in everyone.
Mrs.Eddy mentions that the moment the clouds of error disperse we see the beauty, reality and the grandeur of the Sun.. i.e. when we pierce away the wrong material thoughts then alone we see the perfect child of God’s creating i.e. the Christ image in everyone.
I love having all of you here at Spirit View as my friends! What a great view of the world when we see everyone as a friend. Imagine if everyone did that. True peace and harmony would prevail. I am reminded of the song, Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me…
So, help me out here, Evan. MBE writes (p.467 Science and Health)
“Science reveals Spirit, Soul, as not in the body, and God as not IN man but as reflected by man.”
She says this a very important point.
To me, it’s asking us not to accept that the Christ can be in man the way water is in a jar.
If you put the jar on a truck and it drives off to Reno, you no longer have it. Bye-bye.
Reflected means pondered, considered, imaged forth.
So the Christ– the “kingdom of God”– a kingdom of friendship, lovingkindness, wisdom and care– is in everyone, which is to say, in God’s consciousness of everyone, pondered, considered, imaged forth by everyone — defining everyone’s radiantly beautiful individuality.
Yes?
Diane, I love your question! I’d love to give some insight, if I may. My understanding of the Christ is that, while the spirit of the Christ is within us, it cannot be translated into a tangible physicality, and therefore, cannot be not put into, referenced from, or limited to this understanding. To reference the jar you mentioned, the Christ, who is as close as the air we breathe, is like the breath. We are the physical container (jar), but the breath exhaled and inhaled is released into the atmosphere and filled back into the container but does not take from or add to the “container” and is not part of the jar. That is one tangible example of the Christ. A smile to a stranger touches their heart without an actual physical touch, and the feeling of kindness and compassion they have received resonates with them long after the smile was imparted upon them. That is the Christ. A kind gesture; a helping hand; a feeling of support or connection; a kind word; the Light about someone when you’re in their presence, that is the Christ. It is both within us and about us. We reflect the Christ, because the Spirit of he Christ is within is. It is both. ❤️
*Typographical correction: We reflect the Christ, because the Spirit of the Christ is within us. It is both. ❤️
You are headed in the right direction… It’s tough to understand if you try to see it solely in physical terms, like a jar in a truck. Christ is not physical. And you are not physical either. You are a spiritual being. The physical body is a mortal finite concept of you, but it’s not you. You live way after the body goes into the ground. So to say Christ is in you is to say the qualities, presence and power of Christ is in you–the love, peace, harmony, order and health of Christ is in your being. And it’s in all your neighbors’ being too.
Evan, thank you for also being sure to include that, not on only is the Christ not physical, by that we, too, are not physicall but spiritual. That is such an important tipping point to lean in toward the full understanding of what the spirit of the Christ is within you truly means. Also, thank you, as well, for including that the qualities, presence, and power of the Christ is in you and then to provide what those are. Beautiful!
I met a new friend yesterday across a closing table. My Buyer’s Christly qualities and the Sellers (me) Christly qualities had come together on this deal SO WELL. Our individual “right for all” thoughts, helped to overcome ALL OBSTACLES, in beautiful, unexpected and quick ways….proof that God, OUR Father was guiding both Buyer and Seller. I feel very gratefulfor my Christian Science upbringing and learning early on that WE TRULY ARE ONE FAMILY when we behave as one of His….honest, truthful, loving, kind, willing to listen and Trusting our Father to lead us, children. Two of us sat together for the very first time in pure Harmony thank you Father!!!
Evan, this and all your Posts are gratefully appreciated!! Much love to all, caydee
Life in all its glory
Beautiful intensity
All around us
We are completely
Immersed in It
No matter how
We interpret or
Misinterpret It
This is God’s Life
God’s Life is
Our life
Let’s engage fully,
Eyes, hearts
and minds
Wide open
To this incredible
Experience
This most precious
Blessing
We are this Life
On bended knees
Elbows on bed
Hands folded in
Prayer before
He lays down
His head
Although young
A child still sees
Love in a butterfly
And prayers
In a leaf
And yes, all prayers
Are answered
For a child
still believes
Thank you dear Maximo, for both of your loving and inspiring poems.
I also would recommend, that you send them to The Motherchurch for publication in our periodicals 🙂
Thank you Diane and Gianna for your wonderful question and beautiful response. I had been thinking on the question why is there only one God, good and not both good and evil? My thought centered on the infinite container. One self existent: all present, all powerful, all intelligent Mind is all there can be. It is both the container and the contained. If you had both good and evil, ying and yang or Gods many, you would need some third element or container for both or all to exist. That container then would be God and not the separate elements good and evil, ying or yang, duality or multiplicity. Take that one step further and as MBE discovered God can only be good for if such were both good and evil all would end in its confliction with itself which would degrade from the original and thus would have the possibility of having an ending and therefore could not be eternal. The container, self-existent: all intelligent, all present, all powerful Mind is in thought only and that thought is eternal, reflected and the reflection, not in matter but beyond and above any single or collection of elements, a divine selfless love expressed and we are at our best when aligned with that divine love in thought and deed. If you make everyone your friend, then you are aligning spiritually with divine love. This is a difficult concept I know, but I think it where one starts in thought. If we start with the thought of one Mind with many expressions, we are certainly on the right track but if we start there are many people, mortal man with one God someplace other than in and all inclusive spirit, then there can be no permanent solution to the in harmony and conflict in man many. The latter being an error in thought only – nothing but vainity being it only capability.
Deep insight Josef… thank you so much
Having one of “those days” … so this really was helpful
so comforting, thank you! here, there & everywhere!!
Thank you Father, Jesus Christ, and Mary Baker Eddy. Thank you Evan and all the commenters. Thank you Maximo for your poems. We all come together to make wonderful daily inspirations. Love it!
Oh, what a richness of spiritual Christ-ideas I receive from dear Evan and from all of you, dear commenter friends. And I also feel that we are all friends and a big loving family. I thank you all for your wonderful responses to the so so loving and healing SpiritView of Evan.
You know, I tried to see everybody as Christ-ideas while I was shopping.
In one supermarket there was a female seller, she was very fat. But no, I did not accept that material picture. I looked into her friendly face and wanted to see the Christ in it, and I did, because her face became more shining and she looked at me friendly and we had a little nice talk. And I knew, she is a child of God and nothing else – I was happy about that.
Thank you Evan, that you always give us the impetus to think and pray about your healing and blessing SpiritView.
Evan, I really love your video of yesterday; I watched it several times to get the spiritual meaning of what you said there, thank you indeed. And thank God that Evan gives us each day so simple to understand and inspiring valuable pearls of Christian Science.
By the way, I am very grateful that as a German I improve my English thanks of all your interesting and inspired comments! 😉
Wonderful reminder. Evan, thank you once again for the, as Uta put it, ” so simple to understand and inspiring valuable pearls of Christian Science.”
Thanks Evan and all who have commented – my friends. I had an experience in Sunday School when a new family joined our church and the mother became my teacher. The first thing I noticed was her very large nose. After some time with her loving and inspiring teaching, I couldn’t see a large nose – it had completely disappeared. I just saw a beautiful face expressing so much love.
Thank you so much Evan, and all Spirit view friends.
Thank you Evan and thanks to everyone for your comments. I particularly like when somebody asks a question like Diane did today because these questions always make me *think*. 🙂
When thinking of Diane’s question a mathematics analogy occurred to me. Math has a Principle that defines and maintains the right idea of math. And then there are infinite expressions of that Principle and idea of math. For example, suppose you are holding a math textbook. That textbook would contain expressions of the Principle and perfect idea of math. But we wouldn’t say either the Principle or the idea of math are IN the textbook. The Principle and idea of perfect mathematics transcend any individual expression of math and are therefore greater than any individual expression.
I’m late in reading this today, but what comes to me is a sentence in Miscellany that I really love: “If we say that the sun stands for God, then all his rays collectively stand for Christ, and each separate ray for men and women.” (My 344:3-5)
