Finished lecturing

July 8, 2016 | 85 comments

Many of you know I’ve been a lecturer for the Christian Science Board of Lectureship for many years. You’ve been to my live events, seen my videos, participated in webinars, and noticed my announcements on this blog of upcoming events.

I’ve lectured for nearly 20 years, traveling the globe and speaking in countries near and far. I visited hundreds of cities and witnessed countless healings along the way. It has been a grand adventure, a joy to serve and spiritually rewarding beyond measure.

But several months ago, I decided it was time for a change. I have my active Christian Science practice, teaching, and some other ideas and projects percolating to spread Christian Science that I’d like to pursue, but just didn’t have the time to do everything. I asked the Board of Lectureship that I not be reappointed, and with much love and appreciation from the Church for my service, was granted my request.

So, as of July 1, 2016, I am not on the Board of Lectureship.

My life feels a bit different now, without having to plan a travel schedule a year in advance. But so far, it feels really good! My wife likes it too, (I think so, anyway. LOL) since I’ll be home a lot more.

And I am so cherishing the ability to sit still in one place for an extended period of time and let my thought go deeper into Truth than ever before without the preoccupation of meeting the considerable demands that come along with frequent travel.

Thanks for all your support over the years in my lecture-work. It has been greatly appreciated.

  2. Wonderful unfoldment for you! Your lectures, though, (thankfully remain available on video!) are filled with healing Truth and insight..(and fun!) and have helped me so much… to learn, to heal, to understand. So glad you had that 20 year part of your career! Thank you!

  3. Dear Evan
We were privileged to see you in Adelaide some years ago. Thank you so much for your selfless work. I too learned a lot from your lectures based on such practical application of Christian Science to your own daily life.

  8. Dear Evan,

those comments, above, say it all. I am hoping you continue your blog, as I have found most of it inspiring. I am not a practioner of CS, but a loving friend supplies me with a daily link.

  9. Dearest Evan, Wow, you have consistently embraced the world in your selfless love, and blessed and touched the hearts and lives of so many around the globe. You touched my heart when we met after a lecture you gave in Cheltenham, UK. I had just become advertised in the Journal as a practitioner, and you warmly hugged me and said “welcome to the family”. Those few words of support have shined their light on many a seeming darkened moment. They touched my heart so deeply, and brought such love with them, and that love is now moving you forward in new and exciting ways. You were made to bless, and you must always bless, in whatever you do, so I too look forward to bearing witness to the good that will pour forth as a result of your stillness. Thank you for being you. Gratefully Jo xx

  10. Thanks so much for all your dedication and the inspiration you brought to so many, in many places. I enjoyed your memorable workshop lecture in Norway, Maine, years ago, and still work with ideas and notes from that. I was glad to have the links to your on-line lectures. And each day I look forward to SpiritView, which “hits the nail on the head” with inspiration for that day. I trust SpiritView messages will continue. Best wishes to you and your family as you go into the adventure of this next chapter.

  11. Thanks so much for lecturing for so long! I was glad to meet you in person in Louisville.

    Enjoy your new adventures!

  12. I start my day out reading SpiritView every morning.

Christian Science to our much needed world.
    Thank you Evan!

  13. You will be missed, Evan. I loved your Webinars, but never got to see you in person. Please keep up the blog! I depend on it.

  14. Thank you for your service to Church. What happens next is purely good!
I love the first few lines of a Godfrey John poem:

    “Forever,
    In the Father’s timing
    My being unfolds
    Lightwise…”

  21. Several years ago I was part of a group that helped set up Christian Science talks at bookstores. You were lecturing at a bookstore in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and I attended (one of several of your lectures I was privileged to hear). My husband, who is not a student of Christian Science, attended with me.

He commented afterward that it was a lecture he understood better than any he had heard. As a “newcomer” he appreciated the construction of your lecture, which involved simple language, meaningful examples of Christian Science healing, and repetition of key points throughout and at the end of your talk. He still remembers how he felt at that lecture!

I am so grateful for your years of service lecturing, knowing that you met the need for many a seeker to have a better understanding of this powerful Science of Christianity.

    I love your blogs, too!

  22. Dear Evan. Thank you for serving on the Board of Lectureship so faithfully for so long! I do appreciate all your hard work and grateful that the blogs will continue. Best wishes to you and your family as you continue on this next phase. Many thanks!!!

  23. Where that still small voice speaks, you must follow. I am, as the other are, grateful for what we have already received from you lectures. The joy and confidence you expressed in your lectures has brought me a greater spiritual understanding and drawn me closer to my true relation in principle to divine love. Thank you Evan.

  24. I will never forget a comment you made at a lecture I heard you give in WA state many years ago. You said: “You have eternal life and eternal Life gives you eternal health.” That statement has brought me much inspiration over the years. SO grateful to you for 20 years of spreading the good news of Christian Science to the world. And a huge shoutout of thanks to Kathy and your family for sharing you with the big world for twenty years. Well done, good and faithful servant! Just feeling an immense rush of gratitude for you and yours right now. 🙂

  25. Thank you Evan for all that you do for Christian Science. I enjoyed meeting you in Sydney and attending your very fine lecture. Thank you for Spiritview; so practical that anyone of any denomination can benefit. Looking forward to hearing about your new ventures. All the best to you and your family.

  26. Thank you Evan for all that you do for Christian Science. I enjoyed meeting you in Sydney and attending your very fine lecture. Thank you for Spiritview; so practical that anyone of any denomination can benefit. Looking forward to hearing about your new ventures. All the best to you and your family.

  27. So grateful for your many years of sharing Christian Science with the world and bringing its healing touch to so many “weary wanderers athirst in the desert”! Also grateful that our church in Atlanta had the honor of hosting your lecture during your last year on the Board! Looking forward to hearing about your other ideas and projects in the future.

  28. What more can I say…but a big THANK YOU from me too…and yes please keep in touch via Spiritview!
Along with the Daily Lift and our Lesson/Sermon, Spiritview is first in my morning intake
    of Spirit-ual-view-s.
Much love to you and your family!
    Sarah

  29. Thank you for your service Evan! I never got to see you lecture in person, but I’ve watched your lectures, webinars, etc. via the internet and each time I found I was happier at the end of your talk than I was at the beginning. I think that says a lot about the joy and love you so effortlessly reflect. It’s contagious! Thanks again…

  30. I’m with you, Evan. I only did 14 years to your 20, but there comes a time to express your love for CS differently and one knows when it just feels right. I look forward to following your new adventures, no doubt closer to home. All good wishes to you and your family.

  31. Thank you for all the work you’ve been doing–it is truly appreciated. I’m looking forward to hearing about your next steps!

Your talks in person and in many webinars have brought insight, inspiration, healing, and great joy – abiding thanks! Thanks, too, for the blessings of SpiritView, your many articles, Daily Lifts, and boundless service to TMC over the years. 43. When I was our branch church’s lecture chairperson, we were privileged to have you lecture for us. The lecture was well received, and it was a joy to work with you. Thank you, Evan, for your dedication, clarity, humor and happy outlook. You’re an inspiration always.

  44. I want to add my sincere thanks for all you have contributed and hope you will continue with SpiritView.

  45. I echo all the above. Maybe there will be re-runs! Your presentation made in Orange county this Spring will always be cherished (your pratical approach) Please continue toh help us along the way each day. I hang my hat on your inspiration. Love.

  46. Evan, We congratulate you on this next step. We also greatly appreciate the lectures you have delivered and especially appreciate the mentoring you provided for our “Spiritual Summit” talks. Our best wishes to you and Kathy as you embark on new adventures.

  47. I can see from the many responses and gratitude from those of us who have responded. But can you believe that there are thousands more who, like me, don’t always reply but still love the work you do for Christian Science. I look forward to further Spiritviews to learn what you might share with us in the future.

  48. I have an “Evan” folder in my gmail account, where I have saved special snippets from your lectures or this blog. Because it’s in gmail I can access the folder anytime, anywhere, when I need an uplifting, healing thought(s). You have thus provided me with so much inspiration over the past few years, and though we will no longer be able to gather spiritual wisdom from your lectures, I look forward to the continued support you provide in this blog. Thank you for all that you do for Christian Science.

  49. Thank you everyone for your kind and generous comments! Your outpouring of love is certainly felt on my end. I am in awe of the community that has grown around this blog. You all are very precious to me and I learn from all your comments and contributions. You make me a better person and a better thinker. And in turn, I pray to share back.

Rest assured, the blog will go on. This is my way of staying connected with the world from my humble city of Richland, WA. And I too look forward to what God unfolds before me.

I am in no way retiring from my work. Just refocusing energies a bit from lecturing to other ways of sharing Christian Science with a world hungering for spiritual truth.

  50. and sharing you, through your lectures, with the rest of us.
I look forward to hearing your lectures and webinar from your website
I look forward to your blog everyday. The messages are so universal and uplifting I share them with my daughter who is fundamentalist in her faith and opposed to CS. She acknowledges they are very helpful in getting her through busy and demanding days as a full time college student and single mother
Thank you and bless you in your future endeavors.

  51. Thank you, thank you Evan for your healing lectures and webinars. I never got to see you in person but boy, how you have inspired me over these last few years!!!!! So grateful to you for your simple explanations of the Truth that sets us free!!

  52. That kind of cut off the top part
    I think I goofed.
Thank you,Evan, for your many years of wonderful lectures and webinars. And thanks to your wonderful family for their support and sharing you with the rest of us.
Please see previous comments to continue.
Lots of love and best wishes for your continued blessings wherever God leads you.

  53. Your lectures could not be better – efficiently structured, warm, cheering, making deep spiritual concepts accessible and understandable. Often newcomers would come into our REading Room and we’d get talking and some troubling situation would come up, someone searching for life purpose or self- worth, weight loss or freedom from financial burdens
I would light up and say, oh! You’ve got to hear this lecture! You’ll just love it!!”

Then they’d sit at the computer, listen to your talk and come out and say, “yeah, that really helped. Do you have that book he was talking about? I think I need that book. ”

That humble earnest listening, that compassionate consideration of where people are coming from, the scriptural references and personal examples people need in language people understand are supreme examples of Reading Room service.

You did good, and the good will last as long as the Internet.

I cannot WAIT to see what comes next.

Thank you thank you. Thank you !!!!

  54. I remember meeting you at the “Science and Health” lecture I was giving in the mall at Walla Walla, WA. I felt that there were lots of inspiring ideas coming forth as we spoke. Thanks for bringing them about in your sharing and healing for mankind. You have blessed us all.

  55. Dearest Evan,

    Konny

  56. Thank you Evan for the wonderful work you do each day. My heart bubbles over with deep and sincere gratitude.

  57. Moving forward can be most inspiring and am knowing that your move will continue to be beneficial to all. I loved being in attendance at many of your lectures from coast to coast and was the recipient of much good as a result. I am looking ahead to continuing with you on your beloved journey.

  58. This is truly a milestone for you as you retire from continuously moving and sharing Christian Science throughout the world to new horizons physically closer to home.
I thank you for your commitment and love in sharing through your lectures. While driving in my car a few years ago I listened to the truths you spoke and I’ve never looked back! Thank you for your selfless commitment to the cause of Christian Science.

Your loving and caring of your lectures will be a loss to many of your constant following.
You will be missed because you gave so much to clarity in your lectures.

I understand that needs are met in the normality of family and life styles.

Your daily blogs help us all as we have our thoughts and increases our work through in maintaining our spiritual image.

You will be missed and I hope you continue to keep your profile in tune with our needs.

LOL and Happiness in your continued career advancements.

  60. I first heard you lecture in La Mesa Calif a few years ago. Your message was so clear and full of joy and love. Since then I have followed your internet talks and webinars too. Always explaining Christian Science in such a practical way, always giving joy and inspiration. The world certainly needed you and still does, but. With a change of pace And through different doors that are opening. You are so blessed and have blessed so many through God’s good work. Spiritview in my email every morning. Thank you

  61. Congratulations Evan on 20 years of lecturing! I remember one of the first lectures I attended of yours. Your spoke about your apple orchids. Apples were a source of income for your family and one year there was an extremely frost that kept your apples from growing. There were so very few on the trees. Certainly not enough to gather and sell that season. To onlookers it was a grim picture. But not to you! You sat in the freezing cold among those few apples and prayed. A miracle happened or so it seemed to onlookers…but not to you. Those few apples on the trees grew to be giants. And that year the crop of giant apples brought in an abundance of income for the family. What I took away was to trust and God will and does provide for our every need…..always… and not necessary in ways we outline.

You continue to be an inspiration to me. When I go walking I listen to your lectures on YouTube. They lift my soul! I share many of your blogs with others and they are grateful to receive them.

Your brilliant light will continue to shine in other ways. Thanks for embracing us all in your love and joy!

  62. Thank you for all of your service. You will always grow in new and adventurous ways. It should feel wonderful to have more freedom. There are always things you might miss but new spaces will open . Wishing you all the best! Enjoy!

  69. Dear Evan,
Thank you for the wonderful lectures you gave to us in Perth and for the time you spent with Don and myself in our home. It was a memorable time for both of us. I have been a fan of yours since I listened to a chat online with you and some other MC Members immediately following 11/9 incident. Your answers were so quick and so ‘on-the-ball’ it made a lasting impression on me. I continue to read your blog and to give others the Spiritview link.
    Thank you again.
    Lovingly,
    Sally.

  70. Our church sponsored a spiritual summit back around 2000 along the river in Bothell, WA that had three lecturers speaking – one was you. The joy you put forth and clarity of your message caused me to apply to you for class instruction. So grateful to be one of your students.

A few years ago I was honored to be asked to introduce you at our church’s lecture. Many attendees came up to me after and said that it was a lecture they understood better than any they had heard.

Along with the Daily Lift and our Lesson/Sermon, Spiritview is first in my morning spiritual intake. Thank you for all the lectures and the joy and enthusiasm you showed in delivering them. Can’t wait to see where God takes you. Enjoy more family time!

  71. A simple Thank You Evan, others have said before me what we all feel. I am glad you clarified Spiritview will continue as part of our daily bread 🙂

  72. Evan,

    David

  73. Dear Evan, thank you so so much for your very inspiring, lively and loving lectures – I watched them all via internet during the years. I do understand that you want to pause in order to dedicate yourself more to the most important work of healing and also teaching. I hope we have further the pleasure to enjoy your inspiring SpiritView – and thank your for that, too.

  74. Thank you Evan for your continuing uplifting prayerful insights. I listened early this morning to the lecture you gave this past May in California and once again the light of Truth shone brightly and in such a loving and wonderful way to your listeners. It is so comforting to know that this same light is with you always and guiding you in whatever future spiritual endeavors you pursue.

  75. Thank you Evan for your lectures you have delivered over the years. I heard you once in Australia and was so thrilled to meet you. I love this daily blog and hope you will continue with this. This blog so often meets my need at the particular moment. I am very grateful.
