Fire update

If you’re a regular reader, you may remember my appeal for prayers about out-of-control fires in my region last August 24th. It was a very scary time for residents with blazes devouring thousands of acres in hours and seemingly no end to massive devastation in sight.

Your response was overwhelming. Dozens of you recorded your prayers in the comment section of my blog. And I’m happy to report that the effect of your prayers was immediate. It marked the turning point of the crisis. By the next day, the winds had shifted in a favorable way, we had a small precipitation where I live, and it was constant progress from then on. It’s been pretty quiet for a few weeks now, and we are profoundly grateful.

Other parts of the country still need our prayers, but I wanted you to know that your specific and collective focus of truth that day brought immediate effect. Prayer of the sincere heart is powerful.

  1. Yes! It had the same effect on the Montana fires.

In fact, the Blackfeet Nation had sent out a general statewide request for prayers at that same time because of the overwhelming devastation they were experiencing.
The turn around was quick and dramatic.

    Thank you all.

  2. So wonderful to hear Evan.
I don’t think sometimes that we realise how BIG and truly powerful God is – truly wonderful.

  3. Truth is our victor so happy to hear that and I have kept all those wonderful prayers ..they were so beautiful..thank you..Merri

  4. One thing not brought out in this blog is the question “What and who is behind these fires.” The answer is the extreme hate that is being practiced on the local as well as the world scene. Bind the hate (Tares) and then you have no fires. Don’t burn the wheat with the tares but wait till they grow side by side, then you will know which should be destroyed to guarentee no mischief.

  5. So Good to hear, Evan! Glad you acknowledged the Healing Results of Scientific Prayer! And here it is Wednesday, so it’s our C.S. Testimony Day and we can all express Gratitude for all the Good results we all have experienced through Prayer in Christian Science! Praise God!

  6. Inspiring News, Evan! Thank you, and to all Commenters.

I am feeling grateful this morning to read Mrs. Eddy’s article in her Miscellaneous Writings, pg. 256, titled, “Spirit and Law.” It’s just three pages, but packed with clear views of
the powerlessness of the false “laws” of nature. She writes: “…the notion that Mind can be in matter is rank infidelity, which either excludes God from the universe, or includes Him in every mode and form of evil.” (line26)

We need to honor only Spirit and Its Laws of harmony, and deny belief in any power of non-intelligent matter!

  7. wow thankyou! it’s so important to hear about the fire turnaround for those wondering about the benefits of general group prayer,….. so so encouraging!!

  8. Thank you Evan for the update. Great news!

Related to the wildfires is the reported news on the devastating effects the El Nino could bring to California in particular. Prayer in that direction seems needed also. This is a quote from an Accuweather report on the web today “Locals may be faced with flooding and mudslides, which could prove devastating for home and property owners. This will be especially problematic over recent burn scar areas, where rampant wildfires have charred millions of acres.” There has been a lot of fear reporting about the El Nino but it is interesting to note all the “never a sure thing” “probably” “maybe” “there’s a chance” “could be’s.” Anyway, our collective prayers can again help prevent the destructive elements forecast. 9. Just want to express my gratitude for everyone’s prayers regarding the fires and to share some fruitage from those prayers. We live in Oregon and although we were not in immediate danger from a huge fire burning at that time, we were just a few miles from the fire. We had 31 consecutive days of thick smoke. Visibility sometimes was not more than half a mile. You could not open windows and now and then the smell of the fire would be in the house. I remember the morning that Evan posted his prayers regarding the many fires in the Pacific Northwest and his invitation to all to pray concerning the fires. One of the things Evan mentioned was praying that “the waters of divine Love pour down the blessings of God.” I was overwhelmed by the number of people who responded and shared their inspiration – even from as far away as Switzerland and Australia. It was awesome. Soon after I finished reading all your supportive comments, I received an e-mail from my son who has a meteorology background. He said that the models were beginning to show signs of rain developing for the Pacific Northwest. I went to the weather discussion put out by NOAA and they were writing about this developing rain and here is a direct quote from them: “IT’S WORTH MENTIONING THAT THIS IS AN UNCOMMON EVENT FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR.” Talk about the immediacy and power of prayer. Wow! Along with the other states affected in the Pacific Northwest, we did get the rain which totally cleared away all of the smoke and greatly aided the fire fighters in getting the fire in our area under control. They made steady progress after that. That rain benefited everyone experiencing fires in the Pacific Northwest which shows how far reaching prayer is. I am grateful to Evan for posting the invitation to pray and to each and every one who participated in praying and especially to Father-Mother God who quickly answered those prayers.

  10. Thanks, Evan, for your update and for all of the comments. I checked out the SpiritViewFan’s reference to Miscellaneous Writings “SPIRIT AND LAW” which begins on page 256. I found this statement on page 258:13-15 especially comforting, “In divine Science, God is One and All; and, governing Himself, He governs the universe.” And on page 259:3 “Whatever appears to be law, but partakes not of the nature of God, is not law, but is what Jesus declared it, “a liar and the father of it.” The rest of this paragraph is worthy of thoughtful reading.

I live in Big Bear City, California not far from an area that experienced a wild fire and some mandatory evacuations. I have been declaring that the predictions of more wild fires and land slides are not according to God’s law and that He is governing the entire universe, including areas that have recently been affected by wild fires. “God is One and All” and there can be no other power. How grateful I am for Christian Science which meets our EVERY need!

  11. I continue to be inspired, humbled, and encouraged by this post and the proof of the power of individual and collective prayer. Thank you, Evan and all. Onward!
