Do you ever have trouble sleeping or finding good rest? If so, settle your thought into the omnipresence of divine Love. Let it sink into a deep peaceful consciousness of God’s presence.
As the Bible promises, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest” (Exodus 33:14, RSV).
God’s presence is not found in matter, for God is Spirit. Spiritual consciousness soonest finds and feels God’s presence. And in God’s presence, there is peace, eternal peace.
The best rest is spiritual rest—thought resting with God. And it’s yours to enjoy as thought releases worldly concerns and sinks into loving God instead.
At one time last year for the first time ever , I kept having trouble getting to sleep. Then I started to think of all the names and ways of describing God . I know I usually got to about 12 -16 and then I’d be asleep … and having a good sleep too! So much better to count the ways that God manifests and demonstrates Her/His/ Its existence than to count sheep!
Great idea Diane, thank you. ❣️
Thank you Diane for your very useful suggestion of thinking of ways to describe God which I am sure will be very helpful, and I will be able to use in other situations as well.
Thanks to Evan and all SpiritView family
Thank you Diane for your so helpful post here. The idea came to me that this is a good plan..ie thinking about describing Gods ideas and not mortal ones…this would be so helpful what ever the problem. B.x
Thanks Diane that’s really helpful. i have awful trouble sleeping as have had restless legs for years with no relief. I will try your suggestion.
Thank you dear Evan, for these calming, peaceful thoughts …
And dear Lucy, I find hymns very healing and comforting. There
are times when I wake up with restless thoughts of worry, finding
it difficult to ease this mortal discontentment.
Mrs. Eddy’s “Mother’s Evening Prayer” (hymn # 212) comes to mind:
“O gentle presence, peace and joy and power;
O Life divine, that owns each waiting hour,
Thou Love that guards the nestling’s faltering flight!
Keep Thou my child on upward wing tonight …”
“No snare, no fowler, pestilence or pain;
No night drops down upon the troubled breast,
When heaven’s after smile earth’s tear-drops gain,
And mother finds her home and heavenly rest.”
Big Hug to you, with peaceful, thoughts of calm for a gentle
night’s sleep.
thank you
Dear Carol I did send a heart emoji with my thank you for your loving response but it didn’t come out for some reason! xx
Thank you Carol for your caring healing suggestion to
Lucy.
Blessings to all
And Evan ‘ inspirational topics!
Awww… Thank you so much Lucy and Pp. Very sweet and
love to you both. xx
That’s beautiful, Carol. Thank you.
“peace, eternal peace”
Thanks, Evan.
Thank you, Evan. With a nod to Mark Swinney’s audio posted recently, wherein he shared his realization that he didn’t have any “fix-it work to do”….
I have embraced that awareness, and strive to work with everything is spiritual and perfect. The once mesmeric whisperings of lies of fear or doubt have been reduced, and my goal is to see their extinction. Which is odd, since they never existed in order to be extinguished.
How about: we rest in knowing God’s perfection.
Thank you John B
I love the “ extinctions of lies that never existed “
Always so helpful reading Spiritview and subsequent comments. It helps us all grow Godward
Thank you and sweet dreams to all.
Thank you Evan and all! Below is a link to an article on this topic that I thought helped amplify what has already been shared by everyone today. Below that is a poem from the Journal that I really liked that I just copied and pasted below because it’s so short. I often wake up in the middle of the night and enjoy this quiet time for “being alone with God” as the poem describes.
I hope everyone has a restful weekend!’

When Sleep Eludes
ALICE WILT STRAUSS
From the June 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal
Fret not through darkened hours of night when sleep eludes.
Be grateful, rather, for a quiet time to be alone with God;
To say to mortal sense, “Be still,”
And know that Love is ever present and that good is All.
For one’s true rest comes not from sleep,
Or slumbering thought,
But comes from the alert awareness that one lives in Truth and Life,
In conscious, active Mind.
Secure, then, in this knowing, he will rest,
And with the dawn
Arise refreshed, with heart uplifted, burdens lightened,
Spiritually blessed.
Thank you very much, dear RobertH for the article! But special thanks to you, Robert for the very comforting and loving and so true poem. it does good to read that. Alan Aylwin’s article I am looking forward to read later or tomorrow.
Here in Germany it’s very late Evening when I write this.
Mrs. Eddy says in SH ” We rest in God …” And another passage by MBE says: We are only the humble servent of the restful Mind!”
Thank you dear Evan for your comforting and inspiiring SpiritView “for better rest”. it’s very loving and so healing. It does good to read it!! ♡
Thank you for the link RoberttH. It truly wonderful to be a part of the SV family.B.x
Thank you Evan. And thanks everyone for the comments and article.
Could someone please attach Mark Swinney’s audio post that was referred to? I’ve been busy and must have missed it. Thank you. 🙂
Hi J… The link is in about the second comment in this SpiritView:

Thank you so much RobertH!
Thank you very much dear Robert for the link to the Audio Podcast with Mark Swinney
Thanks a lot dear J. for asking for that very inspiring and helpful and lively talk with Mark about trusting fully our Father Mother God in our healing work!
Thank you very much for this timely posting, Evan. I so needed it tonight. Thank you Carol, for your helpful ideas. I have been using that hymn of Mrs. Eddy’s as well. Another thing I was turned onto is the 23rd Psalm with the divine Love as my Shepherd. Thank you, Lucy, for your mention and ideas for dealing with restless legs. I have never encountered problems like the sleeplessness or restless legs before and find your ideas very helpful Thank you, Robert H, for the poem and the article. I look forward to reading that tomorrow.
Another thing that these ideas will prove helpful for is tha our doggie who seems to be plagued by the need to scratch off excess hair. ALL of Gpd’s creatures are harmless. useful and indestructible.
Hi Pat W, your dear doggie is not subject to any of that discomfort that you mentioned. As you said he is one of God’s loved creations and so he can be peaceful and comfortable.
Thanks Evan for “My presence will go with you and I will give you rest.” This passage is when God is speaking to Moses, assuring him that He will be with Moses and giving him peace of mind during the great task ahead, of continuing to lead the Israelites to the promised land. So this rest is both physical rest/sleep and mental rest (Peace of Mind).
Also love the photo above, reminds me of taking a sweet afternoon nap on my couch. She must be having a lovely dream, she has a smile on her face! Resting in Love
dear Rose, after I read your inspiring comment, i was more clear aware of the wonderful promise of His constant nearness to us, God is giving us all with the verse from Exodus 33: “My presence will go with you and I will give you peace.”
And when I look at the foto I feel peaceful too.
what a wonderfully blessing weekend SpiritView Evan gave us!
Thank you very very much for it, dear Evan! ♡
Thank you Evan for inspiring us today in this way.. I look forward to a wealth of spiritual thoughts from everyone..
God is all…so all His attributes are completely all. All peace, all encompassing and all comforting.
You can’t have a ‘’’nearly complete God ‘’ , hence no nearly complete rest , peace , good….the list is endless.
I once had a friend ( not CS ) who suffered so greatly from sleeplessness that she’d get up a 3am every night. I obviously sympathised with her …to which she reacted..’’ but it’s more time for me to make cards or make jewellery !’’ What a wonderful way to push away the negative…..
Love is all around , whatever. ❣️
An excellent message and reminder, one that I needed to hear. Thank you, Evan!
Thankyou Evan, and everyone, it’s so nice to read all your comments. I get so much comfort from them. love to all
These messages are very comforting. Thank you all. I was thinking about the
sweet rest that we feel when snug in the arms of God’s Love and care.
When we ar-rest (or stop, halt or check) the mortal mind suggestions that
would harm our serenity and tranquility, we “sink into a deep peaceful, consciousness
of god’s presence … the all presence of divine Love”, that Evan describes above.
