Get a spiritual focus

November 3, 2011 | 12 comments

Do you feel like you’re going in 10 directions at once?  If so, it may be time for a spiritual focus.
Feeling torn in many directions stems from the belief that life is mortal and divided up into many different material activities.
Get the dishes cleaned, take out the garbage, buy groceries, write the paper, pay the bills, call the clients, please the boss… the list of mortal mind’s necessities spew out with no end in sight.
It’s the nature of mortal so-called existence, to feel limited, constrained, strained and stressed. A feeling of being scattered, lost, confused, hopeless, burdened, and behind, are all symptoms of matter-based living. It feels like it is going in all directions because it hasn’t found the one most important direction to go of all – right to God!
Success in life is not about how many jobs get finished.  It’s about how well God is understood and expressed.
So, instead of deliberating on how you’re going to get umpteen tasks finished today, agree on what quality you’re going to express while accomplishing the works.  Perhaps expressing more grace is in order, or more patience, understanding, compassion or faith could be the overarching opportunity.
Keep a spiritual focus in view.  Keep the activity of expressing God at the front and center of attention.
Like a pianist playing Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy.” He has to play every single note correctly on the keyboard, but to play the music with heart he has to keep the melody in mind along with the qualities of Spirit and Soul he wishes to express while performing.
God is your Life.  Let the music of Life sing through you today.  Focus more on spiritual qualities expressed and less on “Am I to the end of the list yet?”

“One cannot scatter his fire, and at the same time hit the mark.”

~Mary Baker Eddy

  1. Oh… the pace of “life!” … “the signs of the times…”
So true…um…but not true of man in God’s image!

What wisdom to turn to God, real-izing the infinite ability and power of our divine intelligent Mind, God,
to manage the universe, including us and our long
To Do Lists! This wise Mind knows exactly, precisely
what to do with our Day, and imparts this knowledge and ability to His expression…..US!…moment-by-moment-by-moment. We can leannnnn on this great fact, and relax our human-mind grip on the controls!

    What a wonderful, divine Science!!

  2. P.S. Oops! I forgot to thank you, Evan, for being so
“spot on,” every day of the week! Your inspiring blogs
    are wonderful!

    Thank you so very much!

  3. Exactly what I needed to be reminded of AGAIN today! This brings to mind what a practitioner recently said to me which led the way to a quick and joyful healing. In response to a list of all these “things” I had to do, she responded that since God is the only Doer, and His work is done, I don’t HAVE TO do anything. Rather, I GET TO do everything with my Father. In all I do, I GET TO express/reflect the wisdom of Mind, the harmony and joy of Soul, the inexhaustible energy of Spirit, the freedom of Life, the correctness of Truth, the kindness of Love, the order and justice of Principle, etc.

Many thanks for all the angel gems you so generously share Evan! The light of Love you shine is surely full of blessings for the world!!

  4. This blog struck a chord with us all, it would seem.

Thank you for helping us make more beautiful music, Evan — or, rather, helping us to LET God sing to us Her heavenly songs.

I love love love the idea from the practitioner about not HAVING to do anything, but GETTING to express the Doer of all….(thanks, commenter!).

Out the door now to hear my avian friends GET to express their version of Soul’s harmony….

  5. Evan,
A great article on handling animal magnetism in the recent Journal! Do you have any further suggestions on dealing with this topic in healing?

  6. My To Do list is so long, I never feel like there is quiet time for me. I really needed this today and the commenter about how God’s work is done and we get to do everything with our Father/Mother God is very helpful. I shared this on FB, too.
