Go for the best

July 11, 2025 | 23 comments

What’s the best life?  Is it found with more money, more square feet to occupy, another person, a different job, a modification of the body, or something else that is material of this world?

There’s nothing wrong with having money, a place to live, and cool people in your life.  But there’s something more to be had than temporal conditions of this world can provide.  There is the Big Picture of eternal Life with God that matters the most in the long run.

What you have with God sticks and stays forever.  Everything in the world is of short duration and left behind.

Jesus Christ said, “I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of” (John 10:10, The Message).  Jesus led the way to eternal life.

The best life is our spiritual Life—our eternal Life with God.  This life is not found in money, mortar, social status or fame.  It is found in Spirit, in God.  And we find it when we seek it.

Don’t settle for less.  Settle for the best.

Seek Life in Spirit.  It’s the home of peace and health that is yours forever.

When you have the best, you lose interest in the rest.

  1. ‘ Of two things fate cannot rob us; namely, of choos
ing the best, and of helping others thus to choose ‘
    Miscellaneous p 165

  2. Love this! Thank you.
Some thoughts I’ve come across along these lines:

“Enjoy the little things in life because one day you’ll look back and
realize they were the big things” – Kurt Vonnegut

“Very little is needed to make a happy life; It is all within yourself,
in your way of thinking” and “The happiness of your life depends upon
the quality of your thoughts” – Marcus Auralius Antoninus

“Happiness in not by chance, but by choice” – Jim Rohn

“The only impossible journey is the one you never begin” – Tony Robbins

“You are the author of your own story. If you don’t like where this chapter
is going, it’s okay to start a new one” – Author Unknown

  3. t=Thank you, Evan, beautifully put. And thank you Carol for the quotes.

This all reminds me of an old song – (before my time,
    I must add!!!)

There are so many kinds of riches,
And only one of them is gold.
    Though wealth you miss,
    Remember this :
Worthwhile things cannot be bought or sold.
    Refrain
    The moon belongs to everyone—
The best things in life are free
    The stars belong to everyone
They gleam there for you and me
    The flowers in spring
    the robins that sing
    The sunbeams that shine
    They’re yours!—They’re mine!
And love can come to everyone—
The best things in life are free[2]

    In Isaiah we read:

Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
    (Isaiah 55:1, 2)

    1. Thank you very much, dear Maggie for that very sweet poem and the bible verse.

Thank you dear Carol for your verses of wisdom.

Dear Evan, thank you for today’s topic. So very true. The best life is with God, as indeed He. I S Life, He is our Life.

      I found hymn # 175 very suitable and inspiring;
      here the second verse:

      Love divine, that faileth never,
Still Thy presence and Thy Power
Mighty are to save and heal us,
Guard and guide us every hour.
      Life divine, Thy Word proclaimeth
All true being one with Thee,
      Sinless, fearless, whole, rejoicing,
      Now and through eternity! ♡

  4. Thank you Evan.
In Truth, we all live in the divine consciousness of heaven. As we open our eyes to this kingdom of God, we we realize God, good reigns supreme.

  5. Thanks a lot, dear J for the article by Lisa Rennie Sytsma. However I have to listen to it oncemore to understand it deeper. But we have a whole weekend to study all that.

  6. Much appreciation for the wonderful articles, hymns, kind words and thoughts…
and the lovely poem, dear Maggie.

  7. Thank you all thank you Evan. Today I’m crying a lot , our little dog Pepper just passed away this afternoon.I hope I will be able to recover.
Like someone last few days at the CS service said: your
Pet is immortal, expressing qualities spiritual of Spirit , no matter if during this life on the planet or after.I knew that but this time I felt it was really la healing. So today
That helps me a lot, no matter what happened!
So I know Life is not in the material body, and I’m listening now articles and interviews where CS bring always the reality of our being, the Truth that brings a baume and réconfort,
Not for my special situation but every day , every new situations.
    Thank you all!

    1. Dear Pp, pets are beloved members of our eternal family. Much love and hugs to you. xo, J

(*I’m sorry, but I don’t have a shareable link, but you can listen to it if you’d like. Or maybe it will open for you.)
“Healed of grief after the loss of a beloved pet” By Ingrid Peschke. From the February 23, 2018 issue of The Christian Science Monitor:
      https://www.csmonitor.com/Commentary/A-Christian-Science-Perspective/2018/0223/Healed-of-grief-after-the-loss-of-a-beloved-pet

        1. Thank you Cheryl for sharing your experience. And what a powerful, comforting and healing article this is.

  8. Oh, Dear Pp, I have had many companion animals over the years and know
how you must be feeling, although what J so lovingly stated, “Pets Are beloved
members of our Eternal family”. They, dogs especially, give so much unconditional
Love and that Love is with you and Pepper forever. Nothing can take that Love
away from you. Even though you can not see with mortal eyes the expression
of Love through your dear little dog’s physical being, does not mean that it is not
still comforting you and with you constantly. Each dog, as with humans, is unique
in their own way and the perfect expression of God’s being and that being does
not leave us, although mortally it seems to leave a hole in our heart. But what you
have written – your understanding of God’s Love will comfort you. Big Hug to you

  9. Are we all in the resurrection.. wondering about whether..before and after…has any.. time to align
the rock needed to be rolled away.. but was it there in the first place..not to Christ.
SEE-ing ‘ mortality’ … the eternal fake that it is,..Jesus saw the perfect idea ..not the object…
Might the seeming absence of Pepper, the thought helps me wake in the moment where Now
    never experiences ..loss?
Physical material and mortal.. are such gossips,, I indulge but hope to be more
aware faster. …as unknown in Spirit .. Pepper never left. Love Love Love.. The same wonderful companion ,…both.. always , are walking with God. .
.Loving Joy, Joy loves being Joyful…
