God’s government is a good government

“Walking along the beach of Lake Galilee, Jesus saw two brothers: Simon (later called Peter) and Andrew. They were fishing, throwing their nets into the lake. It was their regular work.

Jesus said to them, ‘Come with me. I’ll make a new kind of fisherman out of you. I’ll show you how to catch men and women instead of perch and bass.’ They didn’t ask questions, but simply dropped their nets and followed.

From there he went all over Galilee. He used synagogues for meeting places and taught people the truth of God. God’s kingdom was his theme—that beginning right now they were under God’s government, a good government! He also healed people of their diseases and of the bad effects of their bad lives.”

~ Matthew 4:18-23, MSG

With the presidential elections in my country coming up in November, I find the above to be a useful reminder that we’re all under God’s government no matter who is elected into office, and that God’s government is wholly good!

  1. Thank you for these wise and poignant words! You are so right! It is imperative for us to
realize, in the United States, that we are governed, guided and guarded by our Father-Mother God, and NOT by individuals. God’s government is fair, loving, and legitimate! We express this kind of government and we can flourish under it!

  2. Thank you so much. I haven’t gotten envolved much in the campaign ruckus . Early on it was clear to me that I had a very strong “reaction” to it and realized that I must work diligently, on my own, to establish calm, truth and trust. I am not claiming to have risen above others as it was very difficult not to get drawn into it. The whole process has been based on two question, “Are you going to believe what you have been taught about God or not? Is He All or not?” Don’t suppose it was a brilliant metaphysical approach but it kept me out of the boxing ring. Thank you again for your contribution to that quest. Much appreciated.

    1. Your metaphysical approach is fundamental for us all to work with GOD, to know that HE is all, nothing else can “fit” in, “creep” in, “wiggle” in to ALL. What a great example you’ve given me. Thank you.

  3. I agree with Charla that it is easy to get caught up in the material picture. I’ve had to turn off the news channels and get back to God. I’m putting it all in his hands. God is indeed in complete control.

  4. It is natural human belief to fall into the trap of human frailty. It takes the courage of letting in the divine light of love to realize who is really in control and has never really left that control to human belief. I was caught up in the political debate for a while, but your post and reminders helped me change my focus to other activities. Not to be ignorant of what the political process, but rather not to be caught up by it. Our country and our global community needs love, truth and respect. Christian Science through divine love provides that as do other religions and other cultures. We are taught to respect others and to demonstrate that respect. To me it just seem better that I follow the path that demonstrates faith in God’s allness and through truth and love rather than constantly struggling with error and false belief about either candidate.

  5. Thanks for this reminder, Again, Evan! I know you brought it up last week…..I think it was! And it is Indeed so Very Important! So many issues and pushes and pulls in our Beautiful Country and in our Precious World……we are being called upon to “Stay Strong”! Seems so much has gotten “off track” on this Planet and I know all the chaos and “hoopla” is just an opportunity for us to realize ever more fully Who Is In Charge and to keep our thoughts focused on Love, Harmony, Peace and Truth! So Grateful for God, Christianity, the Bible and Christian Science! God Bless!

  6. Thanks everyone. I have been holding to the thought that God is always in control everywhere – always. He will be in the Oval Office of the White House whoever may be occupying it.

  7. I know God is in control regardless of what happens. I look to see which party is more supportive of Christianity. I pray that Truth will uncover all error and we will have a clear choice.

  8. Above listed comments carry my thinking in addressing our current politics. We must rise above the material comments that address harm. Love is always the answer when pondering a selective comment.

  9. Regardless of who is elected as the next President of the United States, I believe it would
behoove us all to hold that individual in our thoughts and prayers, to pray that this
individual is receptive to the collective thought of all who are sincere seekers of truth.
