Growing in Spirit

October 10, 2025 | 31 comments

A woman commented to me that she was growing older but didn’t want advancing years to stop her from being active.  I agreed with her desire to stay active but asked her to reconsider what she was growing.

“If you want to stay healthy and strong, is it wise to see yourself growing in years or growing in Spirit?” I asked.

“Growing in Spirit!”  She quickly responded.  And I was happy to applaud her decision.

As a child of God, Spirit is our heritage.  We came from Spirit, live in Spirit, and remain forever in Spirit.

A mortal concept of life includes birth, growth, decay, death.  But this is not the child of God.  God’s child lives forever healthy and strong in Spirit.  Experience proves that the more we understand our spiritual reality with God, the more of it we experience every day.

Be wise to not be mesmerized by aging and common beliefs associated with it.  Spend your time growing in Spirit and experiencing all the health benefits that come from being spiritually minded.  It’s a much happier route to travel.

  1. My acronym for the word old” is OLD: Overcoming Ludicrous Delusions. It is becoming the norm to believe that memory problems are a natural part of aging. I say “Nothing is lost in God’s Kingdom, not even a memory.”

    1. Thank you, Love, I am going to write this one down to remember it:
      O-vercoming L-udicrous D-elusions

Getting wiser spiritually and dropping away more and more materiality; we can do this at any “age.”

      Become:
      O-pen hearted
      L-ighter
      D-iviner

  2. Such an important and inspired reminder, Evan. Thanks so much.

I try to remember Mrs. Eddy’s statement as my shield everyday: “Time-tables of birth and death are so many conspiracies against manhood and womanhood. Except for the error of measuring and limiting all that is good and beautiful, man would enjoy more than threescore years and ten and still maintain his vigor, freshness, and promise.” (Science and Health, P. 246, 18-23) The world parades those conspiracies before us daily. Thank God for the defense of Christian Science.

    1. Thank you J for sharing the wonderful article. It was made so clear to know the difference between spiritual development vs. material evolution. Creation is always unfolding to us the completeness of God’s universe.

  3. “As a child of God, Spirit is our heritage. We came from Spirit, live in Spirit
and remain forever in Spirit”. Thank You, Evan!! What a wonderful place
to have been and always will be! It is a very promising outlook for an appreciative
past, beautiful present and delightful future.

  4. Decades ago many of my elementary school students kept asking me my age. My reply was always the same, simply, “I’m ageless.” A few days before ‘Parent Night’ my daughter came to school. In the hall, a boy asked how old her mom was, and she later told me, of course she said AGELESS. At parent night, to my delight, I witnessed the student grab his mom’s shoulder and very sincerely speak up into her ear, “My teacher is ageless!” I am grateful today’s GREAT Spirit View reminds me of this experience! And also soooo grateful for Evan’s and Everyone’s comments in ALL the treasured Spirit Views!!!

    1. Soaring to new heights always, there is no “sky’s the limits” allowed. Thank you for sharing that you are “AGELESS”.

  5. Thank you Evan for that exchange of wisdom, re not growing older but growing more spiritual. I have been overwhelmed with what I have been seeing of so many old people who are constantly discussing their physical complaints. I will now replace that view and look to see the spiritual man, including myself, as becoming wiser, stronger, gentler, more just

  6. I was visiting the very edge, in the hospital occupied …by the age-less children of God
… where illusion seems real, and knowing ly as in prayer, envisioned the wonders in Gods eye, the Loving peace.is the beam of Light….God is everywhere , Rest is God at work…To see the kick didn’t need the water…Spirit is Limitless in expressions of Life. Fearless comes form Mind..
thank you seekers, travelling Light SpiritView is a constant adventure..raising the bar !

  7. Thank you, Evan and all of you – unique and very special – children of God.
Perspective is everything, isn’t it? I remember when very young, (mortally-speaking),
I always thought someone about 20 years older was “old”. The same when I became
20, someone in their 40’s seemed “old” and then when in my 40’s someone in their
    60’s and so on.
Now “looking back”, with a whole different perspective – they were all “young”.
But with a Spiritual perspective, we really are ageless and perfect …. always and
forever. Thinking in this way is a very good place to be. Thank you, SpiritView.

    1. Thanks Angel and Soaring Dove for talking about agelessness. In this week’s Sentinel Watch, Catherine de Jocas spends a fair amount of time talking about the power of freeing ourselves from all the limitations that go along with identifying ourselves with a certain number. Angel, she also mentions a young student of hers thinking she was old so she must be 20, lol, so yes, perspective.

  8. Amen to Evan’s beautiful message today and to all the helpful responses from everyone! I live in northern Michigan and the photo today reminds me of a group of local spirited women in their upper years who swim in Lake Michigan everyday of the year no matter how cold it is in winter!

  9. Love this! I remember in one of your lectures, Evan, you talk about eternity, and what your said gave me a whole new perspective on living in the ‘now’. Thank you!

  10. Love the message and photo above. The photo reminds me of two
dear friends who loved the ocean and are both in more “heavenly”
places now and I can not see them mortally, but spiritually I can
imagine them this happy and enjoying , like the ladies above.
Thank you for helping me see them spiritually in such an eternal light,
where their joy and happiness lives on.

  11. If I may add another acronym to the other excellent ones –
    Growing in Spirit:

    S imply
    P rogressing
    I n
    R eality’s
    I nfinite
    T imelessness

      1. Glad you like it, Uta – I love thinking up acronyms – it really makes one think more deeply about the qualities involved..

  12. This message about being ageless is such a hoot! Honestly, when I hear someone say over the hill, I picture them trying to climb a hill made of molasses. Its just silly! Who has time for aging when theres so much spiritual unfolding to enjoy? As for the photo, it looks like the Lake Michigan swimmers are sending a message: Our spirits are warm, regardless of the chill! Keep up the great SpiritView, Evan – and remember, the truly wise dont worry about growing older, they just keep growing in Spirit!quay may mắn

  13. The Paul Stark Seeley article is absolutely the best! So absolute and reliable in its insight and instructions from Jesus and Mrs Eddy
