Happy eternity

April 1, 2026 | 34 comments

Do you have a birthday coming up?  Some people look forward to them.

Others dread them.

If you’d rather not think about adding another year to your age, there’s another way to think about the course of life that lifts any sense of dread.

I share an inspiration that helped me see past age in this vlog that was filmed on the shore of Avalanche Lake, in Glacier National Park, Montana, when Kathy and I visited the region in August 2025.

  1. Thank you Evan! I love that since people like to say Happy Birthday in most social circles, it is nice to know I can replace birthday with eternity.

  2. I answered yes to your initial question Evan! It’s my birthday in two days time. I have friends taking me out this week to ‘celebrate’ so I’m glad to be able to mentally replace the wishes of ‘happy birthday’ with Happy Eternity. Thank you. L. X

  3. Just celebrated me day yesterday. I’ve always picked a number and every year I’ve gone around the sun that many times again and I remind myself of my eternal life! I also look at that day (month) as just a chance to celebrate me as God’s daughter, never celebrating a number.

  4. Thank you Evan. I have what is termed a ‘big’ birthday this year. I don’t generally make a thing of birthdays because it can put one in a certain category! I will keep in mind Evan’s suggestion and replace birthday with eternity. Thank you so much. x

  5. This idea is brilliant! Thanks so much. What a great way to reverse the pervasive claims about age. Much better to shine a light on eternity than to blow out candles on a cake!

  6. Love the metaphysical eternal thought to celebrate “birthdays”. The majestic mountains standing tall and solid give a glimpse of eternity ! Thank you always for your gentle sharing of Love’s thoughts that lift me up each wonderful morning.

  7. Just had my birthday a couple of weeks ago… people try to make a big deal of it, but like you, I have seen a few decades, so not counting them now! My family all want to make a big deal of it, but I said “It is only my happy ARRIVAL day here on Earth that’s all” But from now on I will go with Happy Eternity !

  8. This morning I woke up to my “special day” and a “big” one at that. Thank you so much for this wonderful gift! Happy Eternity everyone…

  9. Often I’ve seen the abbreviation, “bday,” so one day I realized that I could make that, “Happy Be-Day!” This is a day to celebrate Being, the ongoing, eternal, and immortal Life of us all, which we never stop be-ing!

  10. As immortals we could never have been born into matter. We are spiritual,
    ageless expressions of divine Mind, according to the teachings of the Bible and
    Christian Science. We are co-existent and co-eternal with that Mind forever.
    and that understanding is really deserving of celebrating every day. We are renewed
    every day, by the Spirit of the Lord. Happy Eternity to everyone. love, Maggie

    1. Thank you for this, dear Maggie. It reminds me of Hymn # 382,

      “What is thy birthright, man, Child of the perfect One;
      What is thy Father’s plan For His beloved son?
      Thou art Truth’s honest child, Of pure and sinless heart;
      Thou treadest undefiled In Christly paths apart.
      Vain dreams shall disappear As Truth dawns on the sight;
      The phantoms of thy fear Shall bless before the light.
      Take then the sacred rod; Thou art not error’s thrall;
      Thou has the gift of God – Dominion over all.”

  11. Thank you Evan! and the dear SpiritView community for staying with the high standard of keeping eternity foremost in thought. It’s a joy to wish our family and friends a happy day celebrating who they are. It can be as easy as saying“Here’s to celebrating YOU and appreciating what you give to us all;” I then list their unique God-given qualities that are cherished. (My book club liked this so much that we all picked a name out of a jar and gave the gift of a letter, writing what we loved about that person, for a Christmas gift). It is natural to enjoy feeling loved and cherished. (And clutter free ) We don’t have to attach a number or age limitation to celebrate each other. Let’s join in the celebration with the gift of raising thought to a higher contemplation.

  12. As one who avoids celebrating birthdays I really appreciated what you had to say today, Evan, especially since I seem to have been around the sun quite a few times now.
    Much love to everyone.

  13. Thanks Evan, as always, for your insight and expressing it with joy!
    Two things come to mind when I think of birthdays: I have for years said to others, “Happy (their name) Day”
    Celebrating their very unique individuality instead of a beginning and continuing of a number of years.
    When I think of myself, I’ve always thought “I’m as old as God!” So what does the number of times the earth goes around the sun really mean when “one day with the Lord is like a thousand years”.? (II Peter 3:8) so I (as His image) must be standing outside the constraints of human time, making time (and numbers!) irrelevant!

  14. Would “mortal beliefs” around “birth-days and death-days” not try to perplex and stymie man-kind? Sure seems so…to me, anyway. The belief/claim/concept that we are born on a certain date in time and die on a certain date in time is…let’s face it…quite strong! Our human lives in between these dates seem durn important, even very precious to many. And, they are.
    Mary Bake Eddy has much to say about human life, and how it is to be saved, healed, restored, tenderly-cared-for, forgiven its mistakes. The saying: “Don’t throw out the baby with the bathwater” comes to thought. Christ Jesus human life was full of love and compassion, not cold and cruel to the ignorant humans around him. Yes, he rebuked materialism, mortal errors of belief, and worked to lift the folks who were afflicted by these ways. He did not “throw out the baby (the human) with the bathwater (the mortal-beliefs-to-be removed). He loved and lifted the humans around him, including his own sense of humanhood, “throwing out” the lies of mortal belief/error. To me, his intense sacrifice of his human life could only be done because he KNEW he was MUCH MORE than a human! He KNEW he was a divine idea! He celebrated his BE-day every day! So, as his followers, should/must we! If our dear families and friends need to Have a Birthday Party for us, on our human Birthdays, let’s let them! I used to try to ignore, or pretend No Birth-Day (so No Death-Day), thinking this was a higher form of worship. The result was hurt feelings by others, confusion about my religion, even anger and resentment. Not a good Example of Love on my part! So now I don’t throw myself a party on my BE-Days (I ask folks to call it this, and they like it!!), if someone wants to: GREAT! I LOVE CAKE! No more Better/Holier-Than-Thou/Off-Putting-Stands-Against-BE-Days for me!
    While Keeping It All in a wise Perspective! I think we can do this!! Gonna keep tryin!

    With a lotta love,

    :<))) Sue

  15. Thank you Evan for this vlog and everyone here and everywhere whose
    birthright is spiritual. I’ve heard folks ask, “Do you feel any older?” the day
    after their “birth” day. Time in material means does seem to set limits on us,
    whereas spiritual enlightenment is like in the beautiful scenery you shared
    with us – the countless trees in the world, the blades of grass, the flowers,
    the drops in a lake or ocean, the grains of sand – all being eternal. Spirit
    wipes away all material limits and sets us on a path to Truth and Love.

  16. I was actually thinking about this today, because we were celebrating my husband’s birthday today with a family get-together. However, I was thinking I really don’t want to celebrate my “birthday” anymore, because I am really enjoying thinking about my pre-existence with God, before I appeared on the earthly scene. Knowing I pre-existed with God affirms my spiritual status as a perfect Child of God…. forever.

  17. Thank you Evan! I do have one coming up this Summer and will joyously think of it as a happy Eternity day! Thanks again

  18. Thanks a lot, dear Evan for your inspired Vlog inmidst that wonderful scenery of huge mountains and that clear refreshing large Lake!
    Yes, “happy eternity” sounds very good for birthdaywishes. I myself wish “another happy year of spiritual progress”. And I like wishing “happy iternity” (to my CS friends).
    But I also love what Joanne said “…to celebrate me and others as God’s spiritual daughters and sons.”

    Am very grateful for this loving and healing SpiritView Blog and for your so joyful and uplifting Vlogs, dear Evan!

    Thank you all dear SpiritView friends for your inspiring and helpful comments. love to all!! ❤️

    1. Thanks for mentioning this reference Mark. That whole section from p. 244-248 (chapter-Footsteps of Truth), is excellent on the topic of false beliefs about “age”
      “Man in Science is neither young nor old.” (p. 244:23)

  19. “Happy Eternity” has long been my greeting of choice instead of “Happy New Year” for the traditional holiday! But it’s a great idea for replacing “Happy Special Day” too! After all, counting years, is still counting mortal lies whether for the world at large or for individuals. Thank you Evan! and also others that have added quotes, comments, and articles.

  20. My birthday is coming up – it’s this Easter Sunday! And wow do I ever love everything posted here, I read every single post. Thanks to you all for such inspiration and thank you Evan for initiating it all. I needed this so much as mortal mind tempts me to see myself as an old lady, but now I am going forward with an eternal outlook on life, because it truly is ETERNAL. I knew this all along, I just needed reminding. Thank you everyone!

  21. Thank you so much for sharing your inspiration about birthdays.
    I love the idea of Happy Eternity!

  22. Great perspective! I’m going to include this in our family’s “Yay You!!” celebrations where we are grateful for our loved ones and shower them with special attention on a day that brought them to our attention.
