Healing is discovery

April 28, 2023 | 21 comments

When suffering, there’s a temptation to believe one must recover from a physical ailment to find better health.

In metaphysical healing, physical suffering is understood to be the effect of false belief entertained. The cure for false belief is spiritual truth.

As thought wakens to spiritual truth, it releases faith in false belief, the source of suffering.

When the source of suffering is gone, the physical ailment it supports disappears.

Healing is not recovery. Healing is discovery. Discovery of spiritual truth!

As Jesus Christ taught, “Know the truth, and the truth will set you free (John 8:32, NLT).

  1. This is so helpful dear Evan! It’s such an excellent reminder. My CS teacher used to say, “Healing is revealing what already is!” I love what Mrs.Eddy says in Rudimental Divine Science, on page 9, “The spiritual power of a scientific right thought, without a direct effort, an audible or even a mental argument, has oftentimes healed inveterate diseases.” The Truth already is – we just tune in to it.

  2. This is so lovely and clear. Thank you Evan.
I love to think of healing as “revealing” of the original Truth.
Restore is also a helpful term: “ … return to its Original.”

  3. Thank you Evan and everyone for sharing. Wonderful thoughts to live by. I look forward to seeing what there is to discover today.

  4. You just reminded me that my identity already is finished, as a creation of God. I can sweep away all the false suggestions that I have accepted, and go back to what’s spiritually true.

Good to remember this! Thanks to Sharon, Fay and Debbie for their thoughts.

  5. Thank you, Evan, for so lovingly coming up with so many topics to
ponder. Your generosity in sharing is so appreciated.
I was looking at the words “recovery” and “discovery” more closely. In
looking at them from a perspective of “know the Truth and the Truth
will set you free”, it came to me that the word “cover” might be ~ keeping
the spiritual Truth from being known. That is, if something is covered, it
can not be seen. If it is “re” covered, it is covered again and what is not
seen … is Still not seen. But if it is “dis” covered, with “dis” being
something negatively affected by, like in dis -ease, disease, the
root of the cause is un~covered or revealed, thus it is brought to light
to be healed. Does this make sense?

    1. I love this insight, Carol – as I love Evan’s post! Many thanks – it’s just what I needed to hear today. 🙂

    2. Re -covery from a dis-ease is discovery of EASE, harmonious and whole, the only spiritual fact about man., Eh?

      1. Love it! Sounds very tranquil. By knowing the Truth, the Truth Does set us free
and in Truth and in Love we find harmony.
Thank you all for the input.

    3. Yes Carol, it does make sense. I was thinking along the same lines, that to dis-cover Truth is to un-cover the lie underneath that seemed hidden. Then it can be looked at clearly and seen through and spiritual truth can be applied.

      Wonderful weekend to all!

    4. Delightful !

  6. “The sinless joy,– the perfect harmony and immortality of Life, possessing unlimited beauty and goodness without a single bodily pleasure or pain,– constitutes the only veritable, indestructible man, whose being is spiritual.” S&H pg. 76
This is the glorious journey of discovery we are all on,- striving to see ourselves and others as God sees His perfect ideas — to penetrate the fog and distorted material beliefs that hide His heavenly kingdom from our view. Truth is always true,- it needs only to be realized.

  7. Wonderful insights and truths revealed today!
