Heirs of God

June 20, 2019 | 43 comments

If you didn’t have any human parents, would you still exist? Yes, you would exist the way you’ve always existed, as a perfect spiritual creation in the Mind of God.

What appears as a human form is but a minuscule glimpse of your identity in the likeness of God that is whole and perfect in every way.

You are an heir of God, not of human parents. You stand in the lineage of spiritual man, not mortal man. You inherit only what comes from God and remains yours forever as God’s image.

So, have no fear of material heredity. It’s not yours to identify with. Your health and soundness of mind come from God, are directly linked to God, and are forever with God.

God is your Father-Mother!

“For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory” (Romans 8:16,17, NLT).

  1. So very comforting to know this and to remember it daily. Sure wish I would have known this while a young girl growing up and not receiving the love and understanding from one of my parents that I so felt I deserved. I now wrap up my memories of my young self in the arms of Divine Love. Understanding the importance of forgiveness and expunging the past, I am grateful for this reminder of Truth and Love. Thank you

    1. Beautiful Susan! I LOVE how you “wrap up your memories of your young self in the arms of divine Love.” The thought that came to me is a humble childlike trust in your Father-Mother to handle the memories for you. Lovely.

    2. Thank you for this as I too ofen felt not cared for by my parents. Will now wrap myself in God’s love just the way you have done.

  2. I needed to hear your inspiration just now as when I was waking up I was thinking along these lines. You summed it up perfectly in black and white for me to hold on to. Thank you Evan.
    Have a blessed day all!
Also note — the print function today was going to print 7 pages for your blog and usually it prints without the comments and today it did. I used to be able to print without the picture so I could fit on one page (had to do the 2 page as the Bible reference was on the 2nd page) but not today.

  3. Our relationship with our Father-Mother is the ‘first and last’ relationship we will ever have. ‘For of Him/Her and through Him/Her and to Him/Her are all [relationships]’.

Putting the one Parent Mind first harmonizes thoughts, purposes, goals, exchanges. It keeps us all within the Spiritual Fold, fed, and protected, and able to express our spiritual heritage.

What a holy and happy prospect!

    1. Beautiful Katherine! “For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory forever.” This Bible citation really stands out for me this week in the lesson. I love how you incorporated an applicable version into today’s SV post. The CedarsCamp notes for the Bible lesson this week says: “For from him [all things originated] and through him [all things live and exist] and to him are all things [directed].”

  4. Yes, it is So Wonderful to know that, in the Absolute, God is our True and Only Father-Mother! And yet…..it is so important not to gloss over what we suffered on the human level, or in the Relative, as children growing up with our parents. Our Human Individuality plays an important part in the total experience of our Spiritual Journey here on earth. So many times we are tempted to do what is called a “Spiritual Bypass” and use the Truth of our Spiritual Being as a “cover-up” or a way of burying and denying the truth of what happened to us as children. This is NOT the true way in Christian Science! We must first see the abuse and damage done and then we can begin to heal it. I believe it says in the Bible that there is nothing Hidden that will not be Uncovered. And that is God’s way of saying we can’t take the road of Spiritual Denial or a Spiritual Bypass to try and escape facing up to things on the human level. In other words, we need to understand both the Absolute and the Relative in order to truly Heal. Only in this way can we begin to experience true Spiritual Healing!

    1. “God is our Father and our Mother, our Minister and the great Physician. He is man’s only real relative on earth and in heaven.” MW 151 We do not need another relative. Only God.

    2. Something helpful I’ve been saying to myself and God lately, “either you (God/Father-Mother) are all or you are not! Of course we face the challenge head on and don’t ignore it. But we can let go and give God all the power, for all of it is his/hers and accept that God is our Father-Mother and this is his battle. It’s always an impersonal sense of evil attacking God, not us. Love is all, ALL!

    3. I really like this distinction between Absolute and Relative–it helps me grasp some things I find hard to understand. My spiritual sense points me to the Absolute, but I also have to deal with what I’m experiencing in the Relative. What Christian Science reminds me is that the Relative, however real it might appear, is not the final story. But I still have to figure out a way to pay back my student loans! Even if in the Absolute, they don’t exist.

  5. Thank you, each day, for your reminder, Evan.
I’m so grateful to God for the blessings of loving parents & aunts. My grandmother brought our family into C.S. My SS teacher & practitioner taught, “Always start with God.” My thanks, abounds. My “spiritual heritage” is priceless!

  6. I stand in the lineage of spiritual man, not mortal man!!! I’m the Genesis one man! Very very grateful for this sharing! Thank you thank you thank you

  7. I appreciate the comments of several who did not grow up in CS, as I didn’t . Also, did not come away with a strong feeling of support from either parent.
I can’t be too grateful for Science to “grow in grace” and gratitude for progress and and the knowledge that my parents are now and always have been spiritual.

  8. Evan, utmost thanks to you for today’s healing SpiritView! As often said, just what I really need.
I must think about an utterance of Bevi to which I do not quite agree. Will say I understand it a bit different. The Bible says that there is nothing hidden that will not be uncovered. But I understand that God uncovers the error as nothing, as error in every form is, because God, all Good knows no error and therefore we, God’s reflection not either. And we can really forget erroneous experiences in our past, because our past, presence and futur is always spiritual and good as we are the heir of a totally good God who loves us all as His dearest creations , as Evan explains us so clear today. So dear Bevi, you are the utmost loved child of God, which you have been, no matter what you experienced on the earthly level, and which you (we all) will ever be!!! Much Love to you and all commenters, and thank you all!

  9. Thanks, Uta, for sharing your View! As for me, I’d rather not experience my life as an “out of body” experience or one in which I have to Deny the challenging things that happened to me as a way of dealing with them. It sets one up to live in “La La Land” and I KNOW that’s not what Mrs. Eddy and Christian Science teach either. It’s just the human misconception of C.S. that a lot of people in the Religion are living now, because it’s easier to live in Denial and because they don’t want to face things head on! Mrs. Eddy said to “tell the truth about the lie.” In other words, tell it like it is, and then maybe there’s a chance of dealing with it and healing it.

    1. Jesus comment to the two disciples whom he met on the road to Emmaus was “What things?”. If he could say that after his betrayal and crucifixion, he was showing us that we can too. He then moved forward to his ascension. I don’t think he could have done that if he had insisted on clinging to the injustice and cruelty as real factors which could not be denied. He was unselfed and told us that we must deny our material nortal selves as well as not being the truth about us. We can do that right now and be free.

      1. Eleanor. I agree. Being “unselfed” is an important step towards healing.
I have thought a lot about the Bible story in John 9 where the disciples asked Jesus who sinned, the blind man or his parents. In the Message Bible, Jesus answers, “You’re asking the wrong question. You’re looking for someone to blame. There is no such cause-effect here. Look instead for what God can do.”
I love how Jesus corrected their beliefs of sin and heredity. He challenged human law.
“We should look away from the opposite supposition that man is created materially, and turn our gaze to the spiritual record of creation, to that which should be engraved on the understanding and heart ‘with the point of a diamond’ and the pen of an angel.”
        (SH 521:12)

  10. Just LOVE this “heirs of God”, just the way He created me “as a perfect spiritual creation in the Mind of God.” Which leaves out FEAR, doubt, etc.
I’m feeling the freedom in new and better ways, just affirming that that’s how I was created.

  11. Bevi, I don`t see it an out of body living. Every good work you do here and now for you, for your neighbor, your fiends, for God, whether in church or in your company you work or elsewhere is already expressing God. Mrs. Eddy calls the earth a preparatory school. She writes: ” Earth`s preparatory school must be improved to the utmost.” (p. 486.) That is not an out of body living. As you see from this sentence, it does not mean to deny the challlenging things that happened to oneself.
Dear Bevi have trust in God`s loving guidance during this preparatory school. God loves you and everybody else endlessly, even if it seems to look differently!

  12. Amen to Susan, the first to comment. She describes my experiences and feelings perfectly. How great it is to know that I am, always have been, and always be God’s beloved child in whom He is well pleased!

  13. Another HUGE subject! We are warriors, for sure, in our fight to establish truth in our human selves
    and our world.

Bevi, I sure do understand and feel what you expressed on this subject. I agree that to sweep all our human experience away as nothing would be far more than any of us should or could honestly or willingly do. Divine Love surely does not require this of us. Love means love, love, love our way out of the dream…not coldly condemn human life as “unreal.” Besides, it gives the wrong impression to others when and if we do this. We can only win the world to CS through Love.
This quote from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, came to thought: “Let Truth uncover and destroy error in God’s own way, and let human justice pattern the divine.” (Pg 542.)

Love to you all, dear SV Family!

    Sue

  14. Oh boy! Evan I am so grateful for this SV post today, thank you! It’s pure Truth no matter what or how strongly mortal mind tries to say the opposite and distract or mesmerize us. I’m not falling for it. Something so powerful for me last week in the lesson came from the CedarsCamp notes in section 5 regarding the “great red dragon.” It says “the victory is on the side of god, good! That means that whatever problem you face, whatever attempts of the serpent / red dragon, actually have nothing to do with you! it is an impersonal suggestion about a power or presence other than God. God defeats this suggestion because it is actually a lie about the power of God! It is a lie about the relationship between God and man”
I am so grateful for these ideas. God defeats all these false suggestions about us because they are actually lies about the power of God! We just need to get ourselves out of the way. Humility is so powerful! Thanks so much for this topic and all the comments and ideas from all.

    1. Totally true but must be experienced to understand this true fact of being that there is no such thing as absolute and relative reality even as there are no 2 creations. Our true conscious being is hid in Christ, reveal by Christ and our true identity is Genesis 1 Man with all good experiences not Genesis 2 mortal man with good and bad experiences. The human life and human mind is a mere denial of good and false suggestion that the Divine Mind who is our Maker is and can be limited in anyway expressing us. The “good and bad” story of life is not your life or about you, that is the Adam dream. Divine Science acts on your behalf to remove such influences and effects of dream sufferings.

    2. BTW Trista, the so-called red firey dragon story apparently has been evolved into a pink dragon by the Russian cleric long ago.

    1. I have, perhaps a digital version, but with a very active practice, haven’t seen where to find the time to do the project right and well on my own. I’m waiting for someone with an inspiring vision and editing ability to appear and figure it out for me…

  15. Are we really trying to “Win the World to C.S.”??? And why do we always have to pretend that we’re not Mortals….when we Are?

    1. Dear Bevi,
I love to read and ponder our dear Leader’s answer to just this point in Miscellany 241:10 – 242:14. It has so much love in it.

  16. Am grateful for this refreshing and joyful foto – it does so good to view that happyness! 🙂

  17. I am just catching up with SV a bit later than normal, and have really enjoyed the exchange of ideas in the comments, it’s so refreshing to work through differences of thought and helpful to hear other’s views. It made me think of the hymn “Oh dreamer, leave thy dream for joyful waking”!
Evan again, thanks for for all you do to help us along the path to understand ourselves more spiritually through this blog.

  18. I struggle with the imagery of the “Adam-dream.” To me, it makes it seem that what I see in front of me is not really there, not really happening, so I don’t have to deal with it. My real life is happening somewhere else. I don’t have to pay my student loans, get groceries, feed my cat, etc. since those things won’t be there when I “wake up.” I don’t have to be nice to the person who got ahead of me in the grocery line since that person doesn’t actually exist and the incident never happened.

I like the imagery of “veil” and “mist” better. What it’s in front of me is really there and what’s happening is really happening, I’m just not seeing it clearly. My student loans exist, but if I could see through the mist, I’d see God’s supply. My cat certainly exists, but if I could see through the veil, I’d see him as well-fed and content. I don’t want all the things I experience to just end up being nothing–just the bad parts! 🙂
