How’s Your Fidelity Today?

June 23, 2014 | 8 comments

Do you realize how important fidelity to Truth is for success in spiritual healing?

Fidelity is faithfulness and loyalty.

The more loyal our thought is to Truth, the more God’s power dominates our thinking and brings it into line with the blessings of divine Love. Beliefs that cause suffering are expunged. Healing happens.

However, if thought has fidelity to error, to the belief that there is life and intelligence in matter, one might feel separated from God. The power of Truth might appear distant and healing elusive.

There’s a cure.

Check your mental loyalties!

What do you acknowledge as power in your life—matter or Spirit, disease or health?

Mary Baker Eddy explained plainly,

“Stick to the truth of being in contradistinction to the error that life, substance, or intelligence can be in matter. Plead with an honest conviction of truth and a clear perception of the unchanging, unerring, and certain effect of divine Science. Then, if your fidelity is half equal to the truth of your plea, you will heal the sick.” Science and Health, p. 418.

And it’s not even as hard as you thought…”fidelity half equal to the truth of your plea…” will do the work. Just half equal. That helps! The rest will come…with fidelity.

  1. Great spiritual “pep talk”, Evan. Thank you. Love the quote from Mrs. Eddy: somehow as many times as I’ve read that statement I didn’t “get” that my fidelity could be half equal of the truths of my prayer and be enough! That is very reassuring!

  2. Good, Evan. Thank you, as always.

Workin’ on more “…. honest conviction of truth and a clear perception of the unchanging, unerring, and certain effect of divine Science.”

Hey! These BELONG to me as God’s child! Thus, they are demonstrable qualities! (Thanks, God :<))

  3. Thank you very much for this excellent, excellent, excellent blog post!!!

Two things came to mind when reading this:

    1) I read somewhere that an experienced Christian Science Practitioner once said “It’s not enough to think the truth…you need to KNOW the truth!” I think that’s another good way to explain how fidelity is so key to successful healing work. I often tell myself to stop just reading the words and really *know* what I’m reading is true and when I’m able to do that, inevitably healing follows.

    2) At one point in my life it occurred to me that I needed to “treat my treatment”. In other words, it wasn’t enough to just pray about whatever situation I was trying to resolve, but I also needed to do specific prayerful work to *know* that Christian Science is the law of God and can be trusted. There are so many subtle arguments against Christian Science treatment that we can be tricked into accepting if we don’t do specific work to deny them and replace them with the truth (i.e. using medicine would be easier, I don’t know enough, I don’t have time to work this out prayerfully, etc., etc.). So don’t forget that “treating your treatment” is a key element to increasing your fidelity.

  4. Fidelity is faithfulness to God and is expressed humanly by not cheating on your spouse.

By being truthful, upright, honest are all examples of a fidelic person

  5. single eyed. no where to go or strive to. it’s all here now. I think for many years I tried to teach it to mortal mind because I knew no other way to think. Now I try to remember to let it wash over me, tie a knot, and hang on.
