An ideal to strive for

June 5, 2015 | 30 comments

“The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results” James 5:16, NLT.

I love this Bible verse. It is full of promise and potential to be realized by every sincere seeker of Truth.

“The earnest prayer of a righteous person…” And the question begs an answer, “What is a righteous person?”

A righteous person is one who thinks rightly. And it means much more than just being morally correct. It means thought in alignment with the divine Mind.

A right person is a right thinker.
A right thinker is a divine Mind thinker.
A divine Mind thinker knows what God knows, sees what God sees and hears what God has to say.

A right thinker is not listening to mortal mind and fearing its verdicts.
A right thinker is not empowering evil with fear.
A right thinker is not assuming that whatever evil suggests is real and true.

A right thinker knows the omnipresence of Love.
A right thinker feels the omnipresence of Love.
A right thinker knows no other power than God.

A right thinker is clear with Truth and not befogged in error.
A right thinker maintains poise, calm and dominion in the face of hatred and anger.
A right thinker is like a light shining in the dark and illuminating it’s the surround with spiritual peace.
A right thinker is not a sponge that soaks in negativity.
A right thinker reflects the Mind of Christ.
A right thinker’s thoughts are coming from divine Mind.
A right thinker is divine Mind expressed.
A right thinker has felt the touch of God and basks in divine glory.
A right thinker is right with God.
And a right thinker’s prayers are filled with power and wonderful results.

    1. Of course not, and there is no such reference in the above. There are good thinkers of all stripes, persuasions and labels around the world. And I am grateful for every single one of them!

    2. Not too many on the list,..maybe a couple are not C.S. directed and somehow the word changed from “Righteous” to “Right” and the definitions may be similar but not exactly the same. When a mathematician works an algebraic equation and the answer he has arrived at is correct we say that he is “Right”.Nothing to do with his “Righteousness”

  1. I’ve read this blog post several times and I don’t see anyplace in today’s blog that says or implies “only Christian Scientists” (are) “righteous people”. I only read that a “right thinker” reflects the Mind of Christ, etc. I can’t disagree with any of the thoughts conveyed in today’s post and am grateful for the reminder as to what my thought should be filled with, as opposed to negativity, fear, etc.

  2. Thank you so much, Evan. I’ve been doing alot of thinking about what it means to think rightly. This blog is so helpful for anyone who wants to think right thoughts about those around us, near and far.

  3. If “A righteous person is one who thinks rightly.” as further defined in this blog posting, then I would agree that you must be a Christian Scientist to be truly righteous. But by “Christian Scientist” I don’t just mean somebody that is affiliated with a Christian Science Church…or somebody that just reads the Christian Science Bible Lesson. Although doing those things helps one be a Christian Scientist, the term “Christian Scientist” to me means “somebody that understands and demonstrates the laws of God”. For example, Jesus was a Christian Scientist, way before the Church of Christ, Scientist was ever established. So if you are “thinking rightly” you are by definition a Christian Scientist. And conversely, if you aren’t thinking rightly, you are not a Christian Scientist, even though you may attend a Christian Science church.

Thanks Evan for another wonderfully thought provoking blog post!

  4. To think that a righteous person is a CHRISTIAN SCIENTIST is to mortally materialize C/S. One can know God’s Laws without being a C/S. Just look around you to see the most marvelous selfless persons of all facets doing good to others.

  5. Thanks so much, Evan! Love that Everyone Everywhere has access to the Science of Christ and therefore can be a Righteous and Right Thinker! God Blesses and Embraces All!

  6. Thanks so much Evan! I read this right after viewing the Daily Lift video “Goliath never stood a chance”. Perfect harmony!

  7. Thank you Evan…I receive so much encouragement from reading your blog posts. Also your Webinar broadcast last evening was perfect timing for me…a great way to close my day. I appreciate all the blog responders also, their comments are like “…a light unto my path.” Thank you.

  8. I really like this composition. Nicely done. I want to have a print out to study this today. Thank you Evan.

  9. This may help Commenter #1, Al: Here is my re-wording (mainly for me!)
    of Evan’s helpful wording!

A righteous person is one who thinks rightly…scientifically and correctly, according to the specific teachings of the Science of Christ, Christian Science. And it means much more than just being morally correct. It means thought-in-alignment-with-the-divine-Mind.

A truly “right person,” according to these teachings, is a right thinker.
    A right thinker is a divine-Mind-thinker.

A divine Mind thinker knows what God knows, sees what God sees and hears what God has to say.

A right thinker is not listening to mortal mind and fearing its verdicts.
A “wrong” thinker is not necessarily morally wrong, but simply dwelling in ignorance, a false state of thought and life that produce problems until thought is rectified, corrected.

A right thinker is not “empowering” evil with fear–actually an impossibility, for Mind, God, is the only true power.

A right thinker is not assuming and accepting that whatever evil suggests IS real and true. Evil is error, and Truth contains no error, eradicates it.

A right thinker knows, scientifically, if not in human feeling, the omnipresence of Love.

A right thinker usually feels the omnipresence of Love–if not completely felt, then at least knows the Truth of Love’s allness.

A right thinker is actively “knowing,” scientifically, no other power than God.

A Right Thinker is man in God’s image and likeness and expression.
He is IN HIS RIGHT MIND, THE MIND THAT IS GOD.

  10. “The essence of this science is right thinking and right acting” MBE.
We know by definition a scientist is one who apprehends, discerns examines and implements knowledge and experiences from a factual basis.
Science and Christianity are one with Christian Science which was organized as the Church of Christ, (Scientist)
    Right on Evan

  11. This verse from the book of James has always been inspiring to me, I’ve read this verse from many different Bibles and I generally prefer the KJ version.

Thank you Evan for today’s message, and also to Sue K (and others) for your contribution.

  12. Thank you Evan, ever so much. All of good is for all to reflect and verify that it is our very being, no matter our name or how each identifies oneself.

My wife, a lifelong member of another Christian denomination, is truly a Christian Scientist by the way she lives, true to following Christ Jesus’ example. Her way is to teach, preach and heal and live Lovelike. This has made our marriage of 59 years most happy and harmonious. She paints a beautiful canvas with right thinking, her paint brush.

  13. Yes Sally, sometimes its hard to be a right thinker, thats why these daily blogs are so important,
as sometimes we do need reminders and encouragement. Thanks for these Evan and all
    the comments.

  14. I just got one thing to add: A right-thinker never doubts. All the right-thinking in the world goes down the drain if doubt creeps in. So to me, it’s beyond ‘thinking’. It just is.

  15. Eva –

Thank you for this terrific message. Your insights and ideas are continually rock solid and why shouldn’t they be . . we all know where they come from !!
