Keep all images of disease out of consciousness

July 9, 2021 | 22 comments

“Mental practice, which holds disease as a reality, fastens disease on the patient, and it may appear in a more alarming form.”

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 395

Mental practice is what you are rehearsing with your thought.

Human experience follows the thought that forms it.

If you want to stay healthy, be sure to keep out of consciousness anything you do not want to live out. Fill it with the realities of Truth and Love!

  1. Such a helpful reminder, thank you Evan! Reminds me of this from S&H:

“Stand porter at the door of thought. Admitting only such conclusions as you wish realized in bodily results, you will control yourself harmoniously. When the condition is present which you say induces disease, whether it be air, exercise, heredity, contagion, or accident, then perform your office as porter and shut out these unhealthy thoughts and fears. Exclude from mortal mind the offending errors; then the body cannot suffer from them. The issues of pain or pleasure must come through mind, and like a watchman forsaking his post, we admit the intruding belief, forgetting that through divine help we can forbid this entrance.

The body seems to be self-acting, only because mortal mind is ignorant of itself, of its own actions, and of their results, — ignorant that the predisposing, remote, and exciting cause of all bad effects is a law of so-called mortal mind, not of matter. Mind is the master of the corporeal senses, and can conquer sickness, sin, and death. Exercise this God-given authority. Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action. Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man.”
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, pp. 392:24–15)

  2. I did this following an operation after being introduced to CS. I had pain and shock waves from nerves in my leg and with all I can only describe as absolute fury and rejection of it, I cast it out!!! Only realised with this SV that I didn’t need to be actually praying at the time, just absolute rejection of this physical manifestation. I was then free of it. So grateful!!!

    1. It’s so great to return to this article. Thanks for reminding me of it. and yes, “Spiritviewing” is a wonderful way to heal and be healed and to see the progress of knowing God’s All-in-allness.

    2. Angie, thank you for this beautiful article. It was inspiring to see that even an established practitioner can uncover a slight error in their reasoning and move higher to a greater understanding of truth. I loved the author’s conclusion that, even more than God does the healing, God is the healing — there is nothing else going on but the unbroken, continuous Allness of God, good.
