Know God, know reality

December 8, 2023 | 25 comments

If you want to learn what is good and true, study God! Learn about God!

Mary Baker Eddy writes, “All reality is in God and His creation, harmonious and eternal. That which He creates is good, and He makes all that is made” (Science and Health, p. 472). All that really exists, all that prevails over the long run of eternal life, and all that really matters and has significance to life and existence, is of God. Anything less or opposite to God, is temporal, and has no more genuine substance than a shadow of the night.

Eddy continues, “Therefore the only reality of sin, sickness, or death is the awful fact that unrealities seem real to human, erring belief, until God strips off their disguise. They are not true, because they are not of God” (Science and Health, p. 472).

The more we learn about God, the quicker we conquer sin, disease and death, for what we learn to be true about God conquers the ignorance, fear, and false belief that prop up any sense of evil. In the allness of God, evil disappears.

If you want to discover what is good and true, what is important and significant, study God. Get to know God!

Know God. Know reality!

  1. ‘Know God, know reality’ and so we know ourself, our Life and the whole Truth of our Being.
Thank you Evan… so often you bring to light what I need in the moment ❣️

  2. “The time cometh when the spiritual origin of man, the divine Science that ushered Jesus’s into human presence, will be understood and demonstrated.” (S&H: 325:26-29)
“The realization that all inharmony is unreal brings objects and thoughts into human view in their true light, and presents them as beautiful and immortal.” (S&H 276:12-14)
“Spiritual causation is the one question to be considered, for more than all others spiritual causation relates to human progress.” (170:22-24)

  3. Yes Evan sir , Faith matters . If you have faith and understanding the Supreme power alone, then there is no opposite as materialistic things that seem real to us start being replaced by divine thoughts.
If ye God’s law can understand, Ye have not builded on the sand.
Beautiful hymn but needs lots of steadfastness to follow every moment.

  4. Absolutely, how could any self-existent being that is all power, all knowing, all present, all action be against it own purpose? Not possible. Everything that states it in whatever form is a lie.

    1. How true, Josef. Was just reading in Mrs. Eddy’s Miscellany, pg 143…
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God,
to them who are the called according to His purpose…. What shall we then
say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?”

God’s Reality is Really all there is.

    2. “Nothing is more disheartening than to believe there is a power opposite to God, or good, and that God endows this opposing power with strength to be used against Himself, against Life, health, harmony.” S&H p. 380

  5. The beautiful joy, that radiates from that innocent, glowing face, reminds me why children are so very important to God! Have glorious day!

    1. Yes, Janie, that includes all of us no matter what our “age”.. Jesus had said…
“Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, shall in
      no wise enter therein.”

  6. Today’s “Know God, know reality” message and the sweet, happy child reminds me
that we are All children of God. Hymn # 167 opened randomly this morning and I
would like to share it’s inspiration:

    “Know, O child, thy full salvation; Rise o’er sin and fear and care;
Joy to find, in every station, Something still to do or bear.
    Think what spirit dwells within thee; Think what Father’s smiles are thine;
Think what Jesus did to win thee; Child of heaven, can’st thou repine?
Haste thee on from grace to glory, Armed with faith and winged with prayer,
Heaven’s eternal day before thee, God’s own hand shall guide thee there.
So fulfill thy holy mission, Swift shall pass thy pilgrim-days,
Hope shall change to glad fruition, Faith to sight and prayer to praise.”

We can be awake to God’s reality with only that brings us Good.

    1. Dear “J”, thank you dearly for this valuable and very inspiring article by Nathan Talbot about “God knows”, absolutely wonderful!

    2. Having just reread this very informing article… Thank you J … and having listened to
an in-depth interview between two folks who are very informed on what is going
on in the world today, before that… I was feeling sort of disturbed by the seeming
evil that they were discussing that would try to force mortal will upon us. However,
both gentlemen both throughout and at the end of the interview, had positive
reasons for hope and do attribute power to God, foremost. This was very refreshing
to hear, which I knew they both felt that way anyway, but for them to actually come
out and Say it, was good to perceive. Being aware of God’s reality and putting it into
      practical demonstration is comforting.

  7. I LOVE ❤️ this ‘ until God strips off their disguise ‘ an important step in Purifying our thought and healing

  8. Thank you so much dear J for searching out the powerful article “God knows” by Nathan Talbot. The article expands upon Evan’s post of Dec. 6th,- “Know Who You Are”. Here are some of the ideas I find uplifting and confidence boosting:
We are each “the specific and unique representation” of Mind…
“A full understanding of the fact that God knows establishes our entire salvation from every element of limitation.”
“He knows the infinite presence of perfection. He knows the unerring direction of reality.”
“Our full need is always to awake to our unity with God– not to accomplish a human goal.”

–So grateful for you Evan, and for this nurturing Spiritview family. I feel so blessed by the vigorous and inspiring ideas shared by all of you!

  9. Thank you very much, Evan for today’s wonderful topic! Prayerful pondering the 7 synonyms from Science and Health by MBEddy and the SSB by MBE are for me the way to know God better and better!
And thank you, Carol for the inspiring CS Hymn # 167. I love it and also the melody!
    Thank you a l l for your helpful inspirations.♡
Have all a God- blessed weekend ♡♡♡

    1. Thank you, Uta. I love how, when opening the hymnbook, looking for inspiration
to share, when it opens randomly to something that is perfect for the topic. I
thought it was great in reflection of the dear child smiling in the light of God’s reality.

      1. Yes, thank you dear Carol. Often I do the same, looking at random for a suitable hymn. But once I bought an english concordance for our CS Hymns. That’s helpful if you look for something special. You just look up a noun of the hymn if you can’t remember the title presently. Very practicle!

        1. Yes, I see how that would be, dear Uta. I have a very well-used
concordance for Mrs. Eddy’s writings and it is very helpful, especially
when I know of a particular passage, but not sure where it is located.

  10. Thank you Evan, such a wonderfully inspired SV.
I look forward to reading Dec 6th’s SV too, as mentioned above.
A dear one forwarded Nathan Talbot’s article and mentioned today’s SV when I was talking with them earlier.
I’ve been away too long, it’s good to be here again with all the marvellous SV’ers ♡
