An observation sent in by a reader who thought others might benefit. Thanks Jeff!
“I was driving down an in-town freeway a couple of weeks ago, and saw a bird flying in the traffic lanes less than ten feet off the ground. I started to slow down because I was afraid I might hit it. He was dodging cars, just barely, and it looked like he might be toast. But then he pointed his wings upward and flew up higher. He had to go about ten feet up to be out of danger, a small distance.
“I saw a lesson for all of us in this bird’s short flight up to safety. If we can lift our thought a little higher, out of the traffic of mortal mind’s grim scenarios, we won’t get flattened either! We often don’t have to go up much, just a little bit, to be out of trouble’s range. And we can fly free.”
This post reminds me of a song by George and Charles Clements, entitled “My Comfort” –
See the bird flying high,
No weight to bear her down,
In a pale blue sky
Searching o’er the earthen ground.
I used to wonder,
Could I ever be that free?
The bird just sings her joyful song-
Now I can fly with Thee,
Thank you, Evan for your inspirational and thougt-provoking posts. They help us to mentally fly higher.
Christian Science challenges us to reverse what the material senses see and see the Truth or what Spiritual sense sees. Evan’s interesting blog reveals this so well. The training we must do to see every thing from a spiritual perspective and not from a material helps us live more harmonious lives.
Thank you Evan,
Adding to the previous comment, it helps humanity when purer thoughts are flying the human consciousness. All are blessed!
Happy day!
Enjoyed your analogy. Thank you. However, at the risk of sounding contrary, I find that we seem to be required to flap harder and harder to stay above larger and larger trucks that come by. I look upon this as part of one’s spiritual progression. Until, like Jesus, we will appear on the other seaside with no more need of flapping around the streets.
Hi Kent,
Point well taken!
Flapping harder here too… 🙂
Sometimes I wonder if I have lifted thought enough, but I am still looking at where the body seems to be, instead of where thought now is. Mrs. Eddy says to “Look away from body, into Truth and Love…”. This is a two-part operation, isn’t it. Looking TO, and looking AWAY.
