Listen for Mind’s direction when wondering what to do

May 19, 2020 | 31 comments

If you’re ever wondering what to do next, listen for God’s direction.

The one all-knowing, all-wise Mind knows what direction to take you for the best results.

The human mind often thinks it knows best and tries to figure out a plan through material reasoning and human logic. But these efforts often become futile and lead to dead ends. The human mind has a very limited sense of possibility and shortsighted view of what is possible.

The divine Mind, however, has an infinite view. It knows no limits, no boundaries, and no lack in its line of reasoning. It can take you amazing places when you are willing to listen and follow.

Moses learned this truth when he led the children of Israel out of Egypt. It was a herculean task, involving over a quarter of a million people. And they had no cell phones! But Moses listened for God’s direction each step of the way, and always found a solution to any problem he faced. You can too!

Mind knows what to do. Mind knows where to go next. Mind knows the best way to get there.

Listen for Mind’s direction. Follow where the inner voice of wisdom takes you. You will end up in a better place than human reason will ever find.

God always knows best.

“Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left” (Isaiah 30:21, NKJV).

  1. Thanks Evan for this, in my case, just what I need at this moment. Over the years I have read many books, watched many pod casts etc on how to plan your life. I had 5 year plans, 10 year plans even a 20 year plan. Guess what they don’t work! For many years now my wife would say to me “I’m sick of making plans, they don’t work?”. She was of course right…Why do we try to plan? What works for me is praying and listening very carefully. Do we really know better than God on what we need, where and when we need to be somewhere doing something. “Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven”; “As in heaven, so on earth, – God is omnipotent, supreme. S & H page 17. We are all so blessed. Thanks everyone.

  2. I started to write earlier that the difficulty for me is remembering to listen. Two hours later when I began reading the Bible Lesson, I came across this verse in Responsive Reading.

    Isaiah 26:8
…the desire of our soul is to thy name, and to the remembrance of thee.

My closest Christian Science friend reassured me not to worry— God remembers!

  3. My dear Evan, thank you once again for your perfect timing. I have what seems to be a huge decision in front of me and just don’t know what to do. And the human answers don’t feel right. Thank you for being right on target. I will work with your ideas and pray to know that I will hear a voice behind me saying this is the way walk ye in it and I will pray to hear God’s answer, not mine. And I will do the right thing at the right time. It’s in his hands. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  4. MY PLAN?

I simply told God this had to be done.
I’d thought it all through, and it looked like fun.
The logic was clear, and could not be faulted.
My plan was now fixed. The door had been bolted.

But something was tickling the back of my mind
and if I kept thinking I knew what I’d find –
The voice of such wisdom that simply knows All,
Quietly saying “You have only to call”.

I put down my plan I had carefully written,
    The arrogant certainty thoroughly smitten.
I stretched out my hand to ask of the Lord:
It gave me a feeling of peace and accord.

The struggle within me to carry on still
Was steadily yielding to follow “Thy will”.
The promise came clearly: “When you do as I say¬,
My sure Mind will guide you each step of the way.”

Now I listen to God and do as He says:
Her unfolding Wisdom guides all there is.
    I’ve learnt this good lesson: God’s image is man;
There is no my-self: just Love and Love’s plan.

    John 5:30
“I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.”

    1. Ken this is a marvellous poem ! I love it especially ” God’s image is man;
There is no my-self: just Love and Love’s plan.”

And just when I am working to see past myself too!

  5. Thank you for a very timely reminder Evan! One of my favourite verses is Psalm 32;8. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.’ NIV.
    Have a meaningful day everyone.

    1. That psalm was spoken into my thought many years ago, PS 32:8, and the next verse I found to be equally important. Verse 8 is God’s promise, verse 9, is my part in the agreement:

Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.

I saw that I must be willing and obedience to receive that beautiful promise.

  6. Listening to the One Mind, that defies human reasoning, etc., to me, is our inner compass, our demonstration, our salvation. Demonstrating the omnipotence of Love’s plan, when the voice of God has come so clear, even though your stand upset family members, and that alone takes tremendous courage, has given me the inner strength to lean on Our Creator, as human opinion cannot compare. Even if a CS Practitioner/teacher has slipped and given advice. Just sayin. Wait for God only to GIVE THE GREEN LIGHT. —Who has each one’s best interest at heart. We are NOT HERE to please mortals, period. Just because I am on a different path, doesn’t mean I am lost. Who wants to be like everybody else, herd mentality? Treasure your unique and precious individuality. As Mary Baker Eddy’s life is proof of listening to the Divine Mind: I will follow and rejoice all the rugged way. Patience has its reward.
    Thank you, Evan, “Mind knows…”

I’ve hear it said – the worst vice is advice.

    1. Yours comes to me, direct application what to say to a church member who has taken “a break” from all church duties. This is A member here, needing to face challenges…with your insight, has provided me with what to do with human opinions, and the slips which occurred on Easter Sunday. Nothing short of “wait for God only to GIVE THE GREEN LIGHT.” is a life saver here. We all face challenges, when facing the myriad of changes which have come upon us…”following Mary Baker Eddy’s life is proof of listening to the Divine Mine” will break the mesmerism by leading us through the “rugged way”. Deep thanks with all you shared.

      1. It’a Much Much MORE than Be An Original.

YOU ARE The Original that your Creator wants you to live YOUR LIFE, YOUR BEING.

Some people may not appreciate my CS Teacher’s sense of humor, but she came out with some real do-zies:

For Branch Church meetings: One should show up and the rest stay home.

of course, we’ve all heard: the 11th commandment, Thou shalt not committee.

        1. For Clarity:

Of Course, Divine Mind is THE ORIGINAL OF ALL OUR BEING, that each one of us reflect, individually.

  7. Evan thank you so much for this open forum where we can share our feelings and inspiration.. the comments this morning by Rick of Sunderland made me laughter out loud as I enjoyed his honesty; while the quotes of others touched my heart..
So pleased we have one Mind to guide us and our own open mindedness to explore, share and communicate..
    What a blessing..

  8. Thank you, Evan & all commentators. I’m listening for Mind to direct my path. Our branch church has a board meeting coming on Wednesday & there are several items that need careful & thoughtful consideration on the agenda. Your timely message is appreciated, as always.
Blessings to all…the correct path will be apparent!

  9. Thanks so much, Evan, once again! You’ve been feeding me the reminders I need these past few weeks.
My dad often reminded me, “Mind knows and Mind shows.” That has helped me in so many different situations, from finding lost items, to being directed how to repair mechanisms I knew nothing about, to guiding me through tough decisions, one of which I’m facing right now.
I know faithful listening will lead me to the right answer. God never tears us apart, because He is “Our Father-Mother God, all-harmonious,” as our Leader tells us.

Thanks, everyone for your inspired sharing from our Father-Mother.

  10. Thank you, Evan and all! I woke up yesterday morning with this thought….”Mind..God…is the giver of all thoughts.”
So grateful when listening and hearing what God wants me and all to know…of course, He is the KNOWER. 🙂

    1. Thank you Kathy, so true; and yes, God is the giver of all things and thoughts, so wonderful.
Thank you Evan, I love this SpiritView and prayed to listen for God’s guidance today, and will do further! Yes, God always knows best what to do, what we shall know and the surest way to go for which I thank God! ♡

  11. Thanks, Evan. I especially like how you pack so much into such a short post. I can get what I need quickly and carry it with me all day.

  12. Thank you, Evan–great blog and so important! And Ken’s poem–beautiful! Thank you both, and everyone for your wonderful, healing comments.

  13. Baseball Great Yogi Berra: ‘When you come to the fork in the road, take it!’

and let Divine Mind guide you…

  14. Thank you Evan especially since I have a big decision to make, but as I’ve experienced several times already how God sends ideas to keep me on the right path I’ll continue to wait patiently for His guidance.
