Living true to your spiritual self

June 13, 2022 | 23 comments

Are you living true to your spiritual values? Are your ideals ever challenged by family members or neighbors?

If you feel challenged, you might find some helpful ideas on how to thrive anyway in this article I wrote for the Christian Science Journal, titled “The benefits of living true to your spiritual self.” It was published in the June 2022 edition.

  1. Wonderful example of staying in the trenches till healing is realized.
Thank you Evan always a treat to read your ideas.

  2. I am the place where God shines through,
For He and I are one, not two.
He wants me where, and as I am,
I need not fret, nor fear, nor plan.
If I will be relaxed and free
He’ll carry out his work through me.

Sometimes I ask myself if I am being.
    that place.If not, why not?
I do not know the author, and I might
    have sent this before.

    As always, thanks Evan.

  3. A great article Evan, A “keeper”. The word receptivity has been popping up for me and your article surfaced it again. It’s all about receptivity and obedience to the Truth of who each of us is spiritually and learning to leave the mortal illusion behind no matter how much it tries to thrust its ugliness in front of us. I am so grateful for your continuation of SV and the ideas it brings for us each to work with.

  4. Good, Evan, as always. Grateful for your steadiness.

I was kinda feeling critical of …someone, and so
    revised the poem M shared:

“He is the place where God shines through,
For he and God are one, not two…”

This surrrre stopped me in my tracks from feeeling so judgemental. We are, in absolute truth, God’s ideas!
Affirming this, we can see it more clearly.

    ;-))

  5. Dear Evan – your article in this month’s Journal was the first one I read, and I found it to be so encouraging and supporting. Now it is so lovely to hear you speaking it! Thank you for recording so many of the articles you write so brilliantly.

  6. Sometimes it takes great courage for us to pursue what we know to be our rightful path. Sometimes it takes great faith to stick to the course which leads to the rock of Truth and spiritual understanding.
Thankfully, we do not travel alone. There is always more Love and encouragement at every turn.
The only thing going on is God….
Thank you Evan. Your article was very helpful, personally , for me.❣️

  7. Excellent article, thank you Evan. So important to stay strong and true to yourself with family and friends. A quote from Virginia Anders: “There can never be an inharmonious relationship between any of Mind’s ideas. Since each idea is at one with Mind, it must also be at one with all of Mind’s ideas – all God’s sons & daughters. A ray of sunlight receives all that it needs directly from its source, the sun, and doesn’t interfere with the rays next to it. In the same way, we each receive everything we need directly from God, our true source of being. Siblings, spouses, and other people are not the source of love or good. It may look to us as though good comes from people or circumstances, but the source is always God – and that never changes. There can never be an inharmonious relationship between any of Mind’s ideas.”

    1. Thank you very much “J” for the absolute truth you present in your inspiring comment. It is very comforting and does me very good!

It’s an uplifting and healing article! Thank you very much indeed, dear Evan! You are writing something about Health and Happiness.
These are entirely imparted by our Father-Mother God. That is such a wonderful assurance. I needed this, as these days a neighbor said to me, after I prayed for success in a situation which I finally had “Oh you just had good luck”. But I knew better that it wasn’t the personel human luck, rather it was that Happiness God gave me ; and I am very thankful for God’s guidance and caring in this matter!

Thank you Evan and SV friends for all the helpful Inspirations!

  8. Thanks RH for the website.
    Thanks everyone contributing to
    each SpiritView.
    Thanks Evan for every SpiritView
    Love presented.

  9. In the construction industry I have pulled many a nail out of my feet! Finally I bought a thick soled boots. One day later I felt something in my boot, I too it off and another nail was almost through the thick sole.
I have been cut open so many times. From a sewage rusted barrel, to hawk bladed and razor knives. Saws and you name it. Twice I drilled through my hand!
But you know what? None of that ever touched me. I’m in my 8th decade and still working with tools I love so much.
Always be careful. Your best tool is Mind. Listen before you move. I have ridden on a crane ball up several stories to land on a roof. Walked on narrow steel girders, on horizontal fencing in place a hundred feet above an industrial floor, with each step bouncing like a trampoline!
I have fallen off scaffolds and landed in tact after getting hung up on 277 volts. That time I broke 3 sets of scaffold planks before hitting the concrete floor. Lots of people heard me scream as the electricity ran through me. I looked up at them from the floor and said “Never felt better!”
Unfortunate things happen to material sense, but nothing can enter being that is unlike God, Good!
Through all those experiences, I have always been OK. “God, Good, Guides, Guards & Governs!”
Protect yourselves, Chapter V in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures is only 6 pages long. Study your daily lesson and never be afraid.

    1. Thank you David, so good to hear your voice back on Spiritview! Loved your tales about many calamities of material sense, that never touched the real you. Especially loved, “I looked up at them from the floor and said, ‘Never felt better!.'”

  10. Evan,
    I admire your moral courage and your desire to help other people. Over the weekend I got to witness one who lived true to herself;

I was driving down the highway when I spotted something on the road in front of me in the fast lane. (I was in the middle lane). That “something” appeared to be moving. Then I saw it was a mother duck with ducklings in tow. She had crossed three lanes of highway traffic and was now proceeding to cross the other three lanes that were traveling Southbound. She never hesitated as she moved forward with purpose. The fast moving cars did not deter her in any way. She did not stop moving or fly up as cars raced past her. I moved to the far side of my lane as I passed her. She did not hesitate once as I went by. Just kept walking with little ones in tow. The cars behind me were spotting her and moving to other lanes to avoid hitting her. I “peeked” (yes, I know) as she crossed the middle lane. She was about to go into the third lane and a large truck pulling a fifth wheel was coming. He moved over and everyone made it across. The mother duck had no fear when crossing. The material picture of “dangerous cars” did not phase her. She exhibited courage and absolutely no fear as she crossed. It was one Mind in action. The gratitude I felt was so overwhelming when she reached the other side I was at the point of tears.
Like Moses, but with more faith and no fear, she appeared to have crossed a “red sea” (at least it felt that way in my opinion). God would not unbraid her because she never once questioned that anything could harm her or block her from reaching her destination.
Looking at a material picture this would seem impossible but it was possible and is possible to Divine Mind. How many of us have been in a situation that appeared like a mountain that could not be moved and walked right through it with such grace?
The picture of a nail in the foot, a financial matter, a job search, whatever it was or is.
