Would you like to lose some weight?
Most people think of weight in terms of pounds or kilograms. But there’s another way to look at weight that is helpful when seeking to exercise dominion over the body. A mental point of view.
The heaviest weights humans carry around are not in the flesh. They are in mind. Weights like fear, self-consciousness, helplessness, victimization, hopelessness, lack of courage or confidence, feeling out of control, and more. Any sense of heaviness in thought is a weight of mortal mind that is no part of our identity as a child of God, and it can be shed. And if held too, can feel like heavy weight in the physical body.
An effective weight loss program is spiritualization of thought; demonstrating a spiritually inspired state of divine Mind that is full of confidence, understanding, wisdom, self-discipline, control, strength and moral courage.
As the offspring of Spirit, not matter, it is our God-given nature to feel buoyant, joyful, happy, inspired, light, and heavenly.
The more we are inspired by spiritual Truth and Love, the less mortal weight we carry in thought. It melts away. The body, which is directly governed by thought, lightens up too.
Mary Baker Eddy writes, “The human mind acts more powerfully to offset the discords of matter and the ills of flesh, in proportion as it puts less weight into the material or fleshly scale and more weight into the spiritual scale” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 155).
Put all your mental weight into the scale of Spirit today and lighten up! You’ll feel better within and without.
Thanks, Evan.
Who is the artist who painted the picture ?
Here is an article that fits very well with this subject.

Thank you for sharing this article. It is perfect!
Thank you so much for this, Maggie! Today is my special day to celebrate Life, and this article gives me great direction for how to celebrate every day! Lovely, lovely!
A very happy special eternal day, DKM, filled with the sunshine of Truth and Love forever. Maggie x
Thanks Maggie, Love this article/Poem
This article was a great reminder to really think about our mental “intake”. What thoughts weigh us down, and what brings lightness?
This article was helpful to me when I was seeking a higher understanding about body image while in college.

Thank you, Evan
This caused me to wonder, from where do I derive comfort ?
Thank you Evan for your lovely thoughts and to those who shared the articles, they are besutiful and inspiring. .
Appreciate thoughts and articles. Thanks to all!!
That must. be what Jesus ment by, ” his burdens being light.”
Thank you Evan!
Wonderful! Thank you Evan! It’s always about controlling thought!
Thank you, Evan, for this morning’s “under-girding” of Truth! Seeing through Carnal-mindedness; The “goofy” way I’ve thought about it for years (but has been helpful for me) is that the word ‘carne’ is the Hispanic word for meat, so thinking with the carnal mind is being meat-headed. It’s helped me in many different ways to catch my thoughts and helped me to keep clear of being a “meathead”.
Very uplifting and burdensomeness thoughts here to lighten our soul and keep us
on our spiritual journey rather than to drag us down to mortal numbers of matter.
Thank you all. I love where Evan writes, “As the offspring of Spirit, not matter, it is our
God-given nature to feel buoyant, joyful, happy, inspired, light and heavenly”. ..
Amen to that! With all the advertisements these days that try to burden us down with
matter thoughts, always making us think that we are not “good enough”, but need to buy
their products …. it is refreshing to know that with Spirit, we are Perfect the way we are !
I think of “heavenly” friends who are no longer burdened by material standards and
limitations, who are with us in all of the wonderful qualities expressing God and they
don’t need an ounce of matter to share these lovely divine blessings with us…. for
they express God’s being and God certainly is not weighed down or embodied with
mortal ways of seeing things.
Oops – meant “burdensomeLess”
The past few days I’ve been carrying a heavy weight. This blog post was gratefully received on this day as my Daily Bread: The right amount of nourishment at the right time!. Thank you so very much, Evan, and thanks to all who post on the daily messages. Each one is helpful in its own way.
Just now a thought came to me that perhaps sometimes we don’t need to “give it to God” but rather to allow God to lead us through it – whatever it may be.
“Shepherd show me how to go O’er the hillside steep…”
Thank you God for this assembly where we see and share your love.
Thank you !
wow…. something so applicable & we can do it!! lol. thank you Evan!
Evan did another wonderful post on 21 December 2021 called Weightless Being which I kept, and which I’m sure people will find helpful. X
Yes, found all of the articles, messages and comments helpful. Thank you. . : )
(Was unable to open Nicki’s article though entirely).
I had trouble also but noticed the option of free read and clicked on that and the full article came up. at the end of the article it said that this article is in the pamphlet 1965 “It’s all about You”
On Yesterdays Oline Wednesday Testimony meeting A testifier told of an interesting example at CS family camp where they had two identical back packs, one heavy and one light. which would you like to carry. Thought this fit with this subject. Thanks for all the comments and articles. And Thanks Evan for another great discussion.
Carol I also was not able to open fully the article kindly shared by Nicki, only subscribers can see the full content. Perhaps someone can post the shared version?
I would very much like to lose some mental weight of wrong, heavy thinking. I know these are not my own thoughts because God, who is my only Mind, would never talk to me in negative harsh ways. For me it does not manifest in physical overweight, for in material terms I am quite thin. But wrong thinking takes its toll in other ways, such as trying to rob my God-given Peace and Joy, which are mine by divine right and nothing can actually interfere with.
Blessings to all and thank you for being here!
Thank you, Rose. I am not a subscriber and was hoping someone might
be kind enough to share the entire article, as well. I also know what you
mean about the “mental weight” you had mentioned. I think, just by being “human”, we all have weight like that to deal with, in some way or another
… but you are so right, that, God Is our Mind and would never talk to [us] in negative harsh ways.
I think weight and age are both number-issues, that try to confine or define
us by “material” measures, but if we see ourselves and others as Spiritual,
these limitations or excesses melt away through right perceptions of Mind.
Blessings to you, Too!
Dear Rose, I just got full excess of Nicky’s article. Try oncemote, Rose. ♡
Thanks dear Evan for this very needed spiritual view today! As offspring of Spirit, not matter, it is our God-given nature, to feel boyant, joyfull, happy, inspired, light and heavenly, you say; how beautifull and healing!
Equally comforting and important is the passage where you say: “an effektive weight loss program is, spiritualisation of thought.”
Also very enriching is the poem by Jill Gooding and the two articles – thanks dear SV friends♡
I”m working and praying to reach the heavenly goal.
How sweet and peaceful looks the drawing up here; so calming and friendly!
Thsnks a lot!♡
Hi Rose and everyone. I’m just rereading all these wonderful comments again today and new ones that have come in. I don’t know whether someone’s posted the link to the article Nikki shared, but here it is.

Received this beautiful thought today as I was feeling burdened with office work this week. Loved the idea- Put all your mental weight into the scale of Spirit today & lighten up. Thanks to other contributors also who shared inspiring articles. Thanks Evan.
OOPS 1975 Pamphlet.
Online Testimony meeting was at the mother Church.
i noticed the phrase “weight of opinions” in this week’s CS Bible Lesson.
That is in Section 4 “overwhelming weight of opinions”
Thankyou Evan really helpful
Thank you, Evan, for the truth about too much weight. It is also true for people who want to gain weight. I am fed up with being tiold I am too thin and should “put some meat on my bones.” It’s thought to be unkind to tell someone theiy are fat for fear of offending them. But it’s alright to tell them they are too skinny?? The truth is to understand our perception of ourselves is a spiritual knowledge that God made us: perfect in His likeness. Not fat or thin and not let others’ comments take root in our thought and be offended by what they say. It’s about how Spirit created us… as Soul’s beautiful reflection.
Thank you, Evan and all. Here is the article Nicki shared for those who weren’t able to open it. Hopefully this link will work.
https://sentinel.christianscience.com/shared/view/ttf24j3cno?s=copylink
Yes, Thank you so much, Cheryl. This link works. It is a great article and very
helpful in seeing ourselves and others through the beauty of Soul.
Haha-looks like I just needed to read a little farther before I posted!
What I really loved in this article was the thought the author shared from the practitioner regarding purifying motives – – “Instead of wanting selfishly to look beautiful (be free of a disease suggestion, find employment, etc.) I must want to glorify God—to express His unlimited perfection.” None of these are wrong or bad but taking it up higher to realize I’m here to express God handles everything.
I know I’ve heard this before so many times but the article and Evan’s post really are causing me to see in a new way to commit to see myself as the expression of God in every place.
I also appreciate this statement at the end of the article “ When we’re really praying—and striving to grow spiritually—the overcoming of these unattractive things can come in different ways. Sometimes the people around us can be completely unaware of the problem, as in my performing experience. Or the problem can actually physically vanish—and I saw evidence of this later. Both result in freedom. And while it’s important not to outline just how the healing should come, we can always expect release from whatever is unnatural.” We don’t have to worry about humanly changing another’s mind (for instance, a doctor, family members, friends, employer). And we are not responsible for how a healing will happen. When we glorify God She does the work and everyone gets to see it!
Thank you, Evan and everyone!
Great post! Thanks so much!
After reading this article I feel more wizened. I felt i have been carrying unnecessary weight unknowingly. Thank you so much.
A favorite from Science and Health:
St. Paul wrote, “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us;” that is, let us put aside material self and sense, and seek the divine Principle and Science of all healing.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 20:27)
Thank you Evan, and all!
