Love thy neighbor as thyself

March 9, 2010 | 3 comments

Since you cannot do good to all, you are to pay special attention to those who, by the accidents of time, or place, or circumstances,
are brought into closer connection with you.
~ Augustine of Hippo
We can do good for all through our prayers of universal love, but Augustine’s thought is well taken for the good we do must start at home with the family, friends neighbors and strangers we interact with everyday.

  1. ‘We only love God as much as we love the person we love the least.” Apologies for my not knowing who said this, but it is quite a statement, huh. Humbling,
rousing… Makes me want to clear my thinking and heart about …. certain folks in my experience….

    Good reminder, Evan. Thank you.

  2. Dorothy Day, co-founder in 1933 of the Catholic Worker Movement said this:

“You only love God as much as you love the person you love the least.”

I found this when I Googled the quote. Hmm, seems I have some work to do also. Thanks again, Evan, for the daily reminders.
