Meet every adverse circumstance as its master.
~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p. 419
Whatever difficulty you face today, take heart in remembering that you have dominion and authority coming from God to face the situation fearlessly, find a solution, and move on. You are never helpless. You have the help you need coming directly from God.
Have no fear of evil and the different forms it takes. Find confidence in knowing that it’s not the power it claims to be.
The Mind of God sends inspiration your way to meet the need of the moment, and you have keen spiritual sense to receive it.
Listen, and act as the ideas come. They will lead you ahead.
Don’t fear adversity. Master it!
Thank you so much, Evan, just what I needed to hear today, together with today’s Daily Lift which was on a similar theme. The following from Science and Health came to mind: 393:12-18: “Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man.
Be firm in your understanding that the divine Mind governs, and that in Science man reflects God’s government.”
Thank you Evan and DavidM for Mrs Eddy’s beautifully powerful quote.
For me, when I feel the need to get to that’ quiet place’ of spiritual inspiration..my first thought is to. De-personalise the problem trying to take over my consciousness. And that isn’t always that easy to do. But once all the error is ‘binned’ and remembering that all we are is what God is giving us, the light starts to shine. If the light is a bit dim…well it’s a case of really clinging to the Master, dig deeper and stand stronger ❣️
Happy weekend to everyone
Evan & all: thank you very helpful ideas.
Evan, Thanks for making us ponder this subject today. It reminded me of “The Truth About Adversity” By LOUISE KNIGHT WHEATLEY COOK
From the February 1941 issue of the Christian Science Sentinel
https://jsh.christianscience.com/collections/collections-by-decade/1940s/the-truth-about-adversity?_gl=1*1imxbdx*_ga*OTc4Mjg0MDM4LjE1OTk0OTcwMDM.*_ga_82T1KK2N0J*czE3NzIxOTQ2MzAkbzIwOTIkZzEkdDE3NzIxOTQ4MTUkajE5JGwwJGgw
Thank you Harmony. Great article. I think the link you shared requires a subscription so attached is a link that doesn’t require a subscription to JSH-ONLINE.

Thank you, Harmony, for reminding us of this timeless and profound article. I want to daily affirm, like the author, that “None of these things move me” when current events would try to shake my confidence in God’s presence and all-power.
Thank you, Evan and all, for your encouraging and healing insights which help keep me anchored in spiritual reality.
I just randomly opened the CS Hymnal and this inspiration was
there, which I think corresponds to this wonderful message today:
Hymn #224:
” O Lord, I would delight in Thee, And on Thy care depend;
To Thee in every trouble flee, My best, my ever Friend.
When all material streams are dried, Thy fullness is the same;
May I with this be satisfied, And glory in Thy name.
All good, wherever it may be found, It’s source doth find in Thee;
I must have all things and abound, While God is God to me.
O that I had a stronger faith, To look within the veil,
To credit what my Saviour saith, Whose word can never fail.
He that has made my heaven secure, Will here all good provide;
While Christ is rich, can I be poor? What can I want beside?
O God, I cast my care on Thee; I triumph and adore;
Henceforth my great concern shall be To love and praise Thee more.”
Carol thanks for sharing this wonderful hymn. Pretty much says it all about how to go about our days and the best mindset for spiritual living and peace.
Another great hymn I was pondering last night is #412, which begins:
“O dreamer leave thy dreams for joyful waking
O captive rise and sing for thou art free.”
It was mentioned in yesterday’s Daily Lift titled Waking from the Dream – and Staying Awake
https://www.christianscience.com/christian-healing-today/daily-lift/waking-from-the-dream-and-staying-awake
When we endeavor to master adversity, as Evan tells us today, isn’t that what we’re doing – waking up from the false dream of matter.
Blessed weekend to all.
Thank you, Rose. And thank you for sharing that beautiful hymn
also, coaxing us to wake up from the dream of mortal mind. I
sometimes find myself in a dream that seems so ridiculous
or sometimes, so unpleasant, that I am so glad to be awakened
from it. There are other times, when a dream tends to want
me to snuggle up to it and not let it go, because it is so lovely.
The false dream of matter, can sometimes seem as real as the
sleeping dream, but we need to remain vigilant to see it for
what it is – a false belief in something other than Truth/God.
Dear Carol
thank you for posting this hymn here today. Whilst I am familiar with it it hadn’t come to mind. I was facing some false claims today and was reassured and calmed to read these words and ponder them. Thank you
Evan thanks for the great reminder that we have dominion and authority over any seeming adverse situation — and the dominion comes from God. As DavidM shared above from S&H, “….nothing can vitiate (weaken, damage or destroy) the ability and power divinely bestowed on man.”
It made me think of a testimony I once read: a woman was on an airplane that was experiencing heavy turbulence. She began praying to know that she and all the passengers were subordinate only to God, and everything else, including the appearance of possible danger in the form of turbulence, was subordinate to us as God’s children. Seeing this truth clearly, her thought became calm, the turbulence eased, and all was well for the rest of the plane ride. Good example of mastering seeming adversity through humility to God’s care and allness.
This has been a really helpful message for me today, and has been shared. Thank you, Evan.
It is so important to “Meet every adverse circumstance as its master. “, and we have been
given divine authority to do this successfully.
Thank you so much for this very timely reminder, Evan. I read it and at first thought “I won’t need that today.”. Then 30 mins later I was online doing a complicated financial transfer. All went well until I had to receive email confirmation that the transfer was sent. 35 mins later we were still trying to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. At that point, I have to admit I was starting to panic but today’s spirit view came to mind. I tried as best as I could to concentrate on your message. Within 5 mins I received email confirmation that the money had been sent and was being processed. I immediately gave thanks to God, Divine Love, who always has met and always will meet our every need; and who is always right there with us in every circumstance. I am so grateful for your daily messages, for Christian Science, Mrs Eddy and our Father Mother God. Have a blessed day everyone.
Thank you Evan. Wonderful ideas to put in my toolbox. Listen being key and knowing God is doing the action that I am reflecting. Much love to all on this site.
I read this blog this morning and as usual considered it’s meaning. Some claims arose during the day which I was struggling to handle and the idea came to check SpiritView so here I am 13 hours later getting so much more from it than I did this morning. I am so grateful to you Evan for this very timely – for me – blog which has brought me reassurance and comfort. Thank you beyond measure.
