Mastering your mental environment

If you ever feel a victim of other people’s negative thinking around you, there is a positive step you can take to master that negative feeling. You can conquer it by understanding the omnipresence of the one Mind!

In spiritual reality, there is one Mind that all of creation holds in common. That means all your brothers and sisters, neighbors and co-workers reflect the same one Mind. This does not mean we are all cookie-cutter replications of another, for the one Mind has infinite individuality to express, but it does mean we share common ground on which we can work together as one and pursue common worthy goals.

However, in the everyday human scene, it often appears that there are many minds in our environment, and often in conflict with each other. When this appears to be the case, it is a call upon our spiritual mindedness to see beyond the appearance of many minds to the reality of the one Mind, and then to demonstrate the presence of the one Mind through our thoughts and actions.

In the one Mind, divine Love reigns supreme. Evil thoughts do not take over and dominate consciousness. Negativity does not hold the upper hand and rule. The one Mind is wholly good, dwells on the good, sees the good, understands the good and reflects the good. It is not a sponge for evil impressions.

By aligning your thought with the one Mind, and casting out the suggestion of many minds, you will feel the power and presence of divine Mind take hold of your consciousness. It will lift your awareness above negativity and fill it with the omnipresence of God’s good. You will bring healing to the mental environment you inhabit, for those around you will feel the good effect of your inspiration.

So, never feel helpless in the face of negativity. Take control of the situation by demonstrating the presence of the one Mind. As a child of God, you are that presence! Live true to your spiritual Mind-origin, and you will master your mental environment and take it to a better place.

  1. Lol, Ginny. I so often feel the same way and at the risk of sounding selfish, these spiritual truths Do seem like they are written just for me, too! : )
It sometimes appears that the pollution that mortal mind seems to distract and tempt us into believing and tries to diffuse over our thinking and world is more powerful than the Truth of Love’s creation, but the one Mind is really in control, cleansing our environment in every way that needs correcting.
Thank you so much, Evan, for this inspiring message to help keep us all on the right track of
keeping our mental environment pure and loving.

  2. Thank you Evan and Carol! This world does seem to be in deep trouble and evil seems very impressive, but God is all! No room for any other power. There IS NO other mind or power!

  3. Thanks Evan. I try to remind myself to get out of “the woe is me” story that everyone likes to share and celebrate the “I am free” story. The first one is fiction and the second one is fact. Much better to stick with the facts. Thanks again.

  4. Having 24/7 Nurse Aide help from non-C/S, I am always having to be aware that only 1 mind exists, leading me, controlling me and protecting me from the destructive mortal thinking that seems to be of influence.

  5. Thank you Evan. This met a specific need today. How timely! Divine Love meets every human need.

  6. If a student of CS is being negative in her evaluation of another person, should you point out to her the error of this negativity? I have never found this approach successful. MBE says: “It re‐quires the spirit of our blessed Master to tell a man his faults, and so risk human displeasure for the sake of doing right and benefiting our race. Who is telling mankind of the foe in ambush? Is the informer one who sees the foe? If so, listen and be wise. Escape from evil, and designate those as unfaithful stewards who have seen the danger and yet have given no warning.” I think the approach of this blog to know and demonstrate that there is only one Mind and clear the atmosphere that way has the advantage of not antagonizing the other person because it has been done silently. I think you have to be more advanced to do it successfully Mrs. Eddy’s way – telling the person their fault — and therefore can cause bad feelings that never get resolved or lead to the ultimate goal of healing.

    1. You make several good points Bob. There are many ways to expose evil. One is to exemplify the ideal that speaks for itself. For instance, if someone is all worked up in a rage, you can “point out their fault,” by remaining very calm and responding with poise and grace. It has a much better effect.

  7. I’m so pleased to read this.

Watching and guarding our thoughts is a daily discipline for all of us.

I feel I have benefited from what others have shared today.
