Negate suggestions of disease

October 5, 2018 | 13 comments

“The physical affirmation of disease should always be met with the mental negation.”

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 392

Hundreds of suggestions come our way every day, and we make decisions on whether to agree with what we hear or to disagree with it.

If you hear a suggestion you don’t want to live out, then disagree with it! With mental argument, strongly rebut it, refute it, and negate it with spiritual truth. Refuse to agree with it, and know why you are spiritually exempt from it. Remember your perfection in God and exemption from all disease and suffering until you have absolutely no fear of the encroaching suggestion. Stick with understanding your perfection in God until you forget why you were praying in the first place. At this point, the suggestion will be gone for it has been rendered utterly harmless. And you will be well, and permanently so.

  1. One of the biggest tools in our Spiritual toolbox. We should not accept anything less about ourselves as God would not make an imperfect man. Thank you, Evan.

  2. Thank you for this wonderful thought. I love the picture that illustrates this perfectly. “Hold thought Steadfastly”

  3. Perfect God & perfect man… when we start from the correct view we end up with the right idea. As always, my thanks, Evan & fellow readers.

  4. “Stand porter at the door of thought”–MBE.
How God’s perfection would be manifest in our experience, if we practiced this. Thank you so much Evan.
And where on earth do you get such perfect pictures?

  5. Perfect reminder. I always remember “Stand porter at the door of thought”-MBE. Wise words from such a beautifully spiritual wise woman.

  6. Evan I t, too, always wondered how you always found such fitting pictures to go with your messages. By the way, thank you so much for the smaller picture.

  7. Your house has many colors
    Reflecting the beautiful
    facets of Mind..
    You make the plants
    to grow..
    You help your friends
    in growth …
    You know loving
    You know growing…
    One waters the other…

  8. Very helpful. I also appreciate the link from the quote to the text of S&H. That’s a great way to provide access to the surrounding text and context. Thanks.

  9. Thank you indeed for this SpiritView, dear Evan.
You are right, hundreds of suggestions come our way.
And yesterday one of those erroneous suggestions seemed to come my way, and I vehemently
said no no to it, but at the same time I affirmed my oneness with God, Good, who is my health.
In former times I said no to the error, but did not really affirm the truth about me as God`s healthy and well child. Meanwhile I learned to do it better. I never stop learning from Truth. I can only always be grateful for Christ Jesus who healed everybody steadily, for Christian Science and of course, Evan for your wonderfully inspiring SpiritView!

  10. One thing I’ve found helpful when I get “reminders” from our health insurance company about a needed screening or test to check for disease or for something specific, is to use the opportunity to prayerfully claim my exemption from all disease. One idea that always comes to me is to declare that there is no disease, as Mrs. Eddy states in Science and Health, and specifically deny the stated disease or sickness. I used to get upset that I was getting these calls and tried to have them stopped, but I realized I could use them to remind me to pray specifically for myself and the world and claim our exemption from all disease and sickness. To acknowledge that our perfection and health are secure in our existence as the beloved children of God.

When we hear the oft repeated current reminders to get our flu shot we can be respectful and compassionate of those who choose to get the shot. Those who do get the flu shot do it out of fear or they have been lead to believe its necessary to stay healthy. Yet another opportunity to claim our exemption from sickness, specifically the flu and to claim it for everyone.

I love this guidance from Evan: “Stick with understanding your perfection in God until you forget why you were praying in the first place.”

Thanks so much for the reminder to be “strong in the Lord and the power of His might.” Eph 6:10

  11. Thanks so much Evan for this lovely reminder to stand Porter at the door of thought and never allow any entry to negative suggestions. Shutting the door to error and sticking steadfastly with the Truth about our being, as perfect and harmonious enables us to behold the perfection in us and others, Our Creator God could never make a faulty model. Only perfection underlies reality.
