Negativity is not compelling

December 12, 2018 | 21 comments

If a negative attitude is expressed around you, you are under no obligation to agree with it. You can stay spiritually minded.

As a child of God, you were created to reflect the Mind of Christ which always sees what God sees. And it’s all good!

Just because a neighbor is entertaining the illusion that evil is real, doesn’t mean you have to indulge that temptation. You can stick with the real and the true and keep your thought in a positive place.

Mary Baker Eddy wrote, “When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea. Allow nothing but His likeness to abide in your thought”
(Science and Health, p. 495).

Negativity is not compelling. It is error and to be treated as error.

Stay in the Mind of Christ, know the allness of God, and remain inspired. It’s the happier way to live.

  1. So simple, thank you Evan. It reminds me of Jesus being tempted to bow before evil’s enticements to believe:
“5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:
10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:
11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.
Matt 24:6 “And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.”

    1. Thank you for this addition Fay. Really helped to complete Evan’s writings today. Very helpful to remember that even Jesus was tempted by evil just as we so often are, But Jesus gave us his example to follow and it is heartening.

  2. Yes of course keeping our thoughts uplifted, dwelling in the spiritual reality, can make a world of difference. Such a positive attitude brings happiness and harmony even in the midst of seeming trials and turmoil.
Just because many give consent to negative suggestions, it’s nor compelling on us. We can put your foot down and agree only with what is real and true. The reality is that God, good fills all space and hence there is no place for error or negativity. By keeping our thoughts pure and aligned with the spiritual reality, we can bring healing to any situation.
Thanks so much Evan for this wonderful reminder. Cause people easily get ensnared in the negative suggestions. It’s so important to keep a watch on our thoughts. Pure and positive thoughts always bring good results.

  3. “Stay in the Mind of Christ, know the alless of God, and remain inspired.”
This is getting tacked up on my bulletin board in all caps! Thank you thank you thank you

  4. Every age is challenged to see the good beyond the evil deception that matter is real and spirit the illusion. It is not a choice really, but a realization that spiritual understanding elevates our being to live out the truth as heirs with divine rights to live out harmonious lives.

  5. Great reminder, Evan, to face down the downward tendency that mortal thinking sometimes takes. My mom used to say: “you don’t have to go down in the pit because someone else chooses to!” Of course, we know that the real man, our true identity, wants only to rise Spiritward.:-) I think it’s important to see through the lie of negativity as being any part of man’s being. I love the smiling faces at the top of this blog, Evan’s and the guest with the knit hat! I smiled right back at them when I opened this! Blessings all day, friends!

  6. We must remember not to look down or disparagingly at those who are hurting , sad, grieving, or hold ourselves superior to them. Jesus also wept and was sometimes saddened by circumstances. Let us not contribute to the weight or burden others may be carrying by dismissal of them or entertain belittling thoughts about them. A hurting disgruntled person may be asking for Love and comfort in the only way they know how. “Perhaps some unkindness made them so.”

    1. Very true Charla! And by not being compelled to also go down into the pit of darkness, doubt, fear, negativity, etc., we are in the perfect place to not only help ourselves, but our neighbor who is struggling. We exist to express the Mind who is God, what joy! ♡♡

  7. Thank you everyone for your thoughtful comments. I gleaned something good from each of you! I usually see myself as being very loving and positive but my daughter
accused me of being so negative all the time.
This was hurtful to me as I really don’t see myself that way! I certainly don’t want her to see me that way either! I often say a little prayer: I see myself as God’s own child as perfect in His sight. I see my fellow man as well a perfect son of Light. Then I complete my prayer by me seeing him seeing me seeing him a perfect son of light.

  8. Wonderful writings Evan. And Fay thank you for adding the Bible versus where Jesus is tempted by the devil. Charla thank you for your loving comments abut how we should look at those hurting in one way or another. So grateful for this SpiritView family.

  9. Thank you, Evan, and all contributors. What came to me is the statement, “We have the mind of Christ” from I Corinthians, and also several verses in the New Testament about being “children of light.” We don’t need to get pulled into the mire of negativity and darkness with the “world:” we can help the world by expressing our true being as “children of light.” It’s not always so easy, but it’s worth it!

  10. I try to see unhappy angry people as caught in a nightmare, hypnotized. So often i have awoken from these nightmares so surprised that I was there. Years ago, I used to think of what they might have looked like as they were infants in the arms of someone who loved them- so innocent, so pure. We are all one and nothing else is real.

    1. Nadine, Appreciate your comments. We must resist the pull to advocate for error or evil while remaining compassionate and tender with those who are frightened and troubled. We can sometimes quickly call it negativity thus heaping judgement and added burdens to one seeking comfort and reassurance. Thanks for expanding on some thoughts I had on the subject.

  11. Thank you very much Evan, for this important admonition and for Mrs. Eddy`s words from Science and Health. In times when it seemed very necessary I worked with this truth and really tried to grap to it mentally as firm as I could. It helps in so far, that your thoughts then are concentrated on God who is Love, who loves us all very much! God`s Love is the healing!
Thank you Evan, am working on your last line you wrote in your today`s SpiritView!
By the way, it is really a sunny and loving smile of the friendly man up here. 🙂

Thank you all for your inspired and loving comments!

  12. Yes, thank you all for you good and healing thoughts…and thank you, Evan. So good to know we all are blessings ..the world is blessed. The Mind of Christ …we reflect.

  13. It is good to know that God is light, and in Him (Who is everywhere present) there is no darkness at all (Bible verse is shown at the beginning of the Book of John).

And the Apostle Paul tells us “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).

These verses both agree with what Evan has said in this blog today. Evan sure knows how to tell his readers that God is Love always.
