No jinxes

Have you ever heard someone who was unsure about the outcome of something good in their life say, “Now, don’t jinx me!”

The fear of being jinxed is a common fear among many, and stems from the belief that the development of something good in their life is at the mercy of chance.

There is a cure for this belief! And it lies in understanding that all good comes from God, and that there is nothing chancy or iffy about it.

There is no lottery with God. When God promises something good, it happens no matter what, and there is no counter power that is going to stop it.

There is no chance with God. When God issues a decree, it is carried out, and no error is going to prevent that decree from being fulfilled.

There isn’t anything ever “up in the air,” with God. When God makes a decision, His decision stands, and it will not be overturned.

There are no uncertainties with God. When God forms a plan, He carries it out with unchallenged authority that will not be thwarted or reversed.

To prevent a fear of jinxes, stay clear that good does not happen by chance in your life. It happens because God causes it to happen. God is the power behind the good, and God sustains that good forever.

That which comes from God sticks. It will not retreat. It will not be denied. It will not be stopped.

Jinxes to God’s good are impossible. They don’t happen. They don’t exist to fear. They are never a factor. They are as nothing, for they are nothing.

No one will ever jinx your good. They can’t. Even if they try they won’t, for your good is set, it’s yours forever, and it isn’t going anywhere.

Jinxes are a hoax.

  1. Thank you so much for these powerful affirmations of the First Commandment, Evan. They are precious gems – “a lamp unto my feet”.

  2. Very true, very comforting.

But Evan, can you please comment on the wise practice of keeping important plans “in the secret place of the most high?”

I read of a study of two groups of people given an intellectual challenge. One group were to talk about it with others, the other were forbidden to talk about it. They discovered that the first group seldom accomplished the task, while the second always did. The first group, in talking about it, lost interest in completing the task. True in my experience.

Mrs. Eddy demanded tasks to be done, not talked about, and insisted that information not be shared until the right moment. “There is but one way of doing good, and that is to do it! There is but one way of being good, and that is to be good!” (Retrospection and Introspection, p. 86.) Also, see Abiding in Good by Lucy Hays Eastman, February 13, 1915 issue of the Christian Science Sentinel

    1. Certainly, there is a right time for every idea to be shared. And that would be when it has the right effect. So, yes, there are times when we gain an inspiration, new view, or fresh insight that is not ready to be shared outwardly until thought around us is made ready for it. In those cases, we stay humble, patient, and wait for the right moment. God will let us know.

  3. I have often wondered when you say “ my good” or “your good.” Today I realized that I do have good from God with my name on it so to speak. Divine Love supplies me with all the good I will ever need constantly. God’s thoughts about me are filled with good. There is good that is my right as a child of God, as it is with all of us, that flows from divine Love into my life eternally. Thank you for your wonderful blog that offers such inspiration.

  4. We have decided to move and Christian Science has been there all the way with making a good decision.. I let “Shepherd Show Me’. Thanks for all the good thoughts.

  5. This blog reminded me that years ago my husband and I had an opportunity to build a modest house on property that friends had offered us. But just after the construction began everything stopped. All financing, contractors, and supplies stopped coming in. I was discouraged and felt myself beginning to give up. Months went by with no activity. But one day while praying I opened to a letter written to Mrs. Eddy by James Rome who was a Christian Science Practitioner and teacher. He had been asked to be a night watchman as the Mother Church extension was being built. Mrs. Eddy wanted it finished by June 10th but he didn’t see how this deadline could be met.
In the letter he writes in part ,” At first I thought that since it seemed impossible for the building to be completed before the end of summer, the communion would likely be postponed. Then came the announcement that the services would be held in the new extension on June 10. I saw at once that somebody had to wake up. I raised my eyes, and the conviction that the work would be accomplished came to me so clearly, I said aloud, “Why, there is no fear; this house will be ready. I bowed my head before the might of divine Love, and never more did I have any doubt. I noticed that as soon as the workmen began to admit that the work could be done everything seemed to move as by magic; the human mind was giving its consent.” (See My. 60:25 to read the whole letter)
This woke me up too and I saw that I had been mentally dragging my feet because I felt the opportunity we had to build a house was too good to be true. Mrs. Eddy writes, “Perfection underlies reality.” (Science and Health 353:16)) I saw that the more perfect this opportunity was the more real and true it was. I immediately gave my consent and began to pray, “Father today I am willing to accept all the good you are giving me, even if it seems too good to be true!” The work resumed the next day and we have lived here for the last 26 years. The was no jinx, only my hesitancy and unwillingness to wholeheartedly accept the good that God is forever unfolding. Thanks Evan for reminding me of this today.

    1. thank you Karen, that’s really wonderful. Thank you for sharing this testimony lovingly with us explaining the metaphysics so clear resulting in the perfect healing of that issue.

    1. I finished lecturing a couple of years ago, so haven’t been doing webinars. However, occassionally I get some vlogs produced.

I’m glad you enjoy SpiritView. Thank you!

  6. Thanks again Brian for your thoughtfulness in sharing the link to the article Diane referred to. I especially liked this statement, ” sometimes hear it said, “I have worked and worked on that problem, but have had no results.” And why? Is error so strong as to resist the law of God? No. Then the efforts of the student can lack fruitage only when, all unknown to himself, his statements of Truth are governed by some quality of the human mind instead of the divine. The Scientist who argues with error, engages in a conflict which sometimes discloses that human will and tension, rather than Spirit, are behind his work and words.”

  7. I would like to add my note of gratitude to all the other comments. This is wonderful, and especially Karen’s testimony! I am so grateful..

  8. There are no jinxes, for sure! My parents always encouraged me to be quiet about my goals and activities—to not open them up to mortal mind’s opinions, fears, or covetousness. It was to be wise and only share them with those whom I trusted to not gossip. I have found this helpful through the years. I’m so grateful for all the good God has shared with me and mine! Thank you for this precious blog, Evan, that you have given us! .

  9. Wonderful! A great refresher, a big thank you to Evan and all who commented, Every day is a new adventure on Spirit View.

  10. Dear Evan, thank you very much for this wonderfully clear SpiritView assuring us of God`s Love to us and showing us the oneness of God, Good where there cannot be any jinx, I never believed in it. Now I understand this word, as Bèatrice explained it to me in German, thanks a lot Bèatrice, and thank you also Karen Neff, explaining me this word so lovingly 🙂

Regarding the word “by chance”, I think at the passage in Science and Health by MBEddy on page 424 where it says: “Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief und unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God`s unerring direction and thus bring out harmony.”
We shall unite with the one Mind, that means for me to be aware of our oneness with God where there is no chancyness but only the certainty of His unerring guidance which brings us into His harmony. Am very grateful for Evan`s very blessing SpiritView !

Thank you a l l for your so inspired and inspiring comments, dear SpiritView friends 🙂

  11. but what about when bad things seem to happen? Unfair things? When you are robbed of something you worked long and hard for for an unfair for unjust reason?? Sorry to be vague here. I KNOW that praying to know all good comes from God is simply just the truth. But I’ve seen in my circle close to me many times the appearance of something being jinxed…that after years of planting and nurturing and guiding, someone else gets to harvest. Its tough.

    1. You dear Patricia, the best and most unpersonal answer or advice I can give you is, look for God’s help and answers in the Holy Bible and MBEddy’s textbook Science and Health wit key to the Scriptures and her other precious Writings – Proseworks –

Hope that helps you, it should – Love Uta

    2. Hi Tricia, I don’t know if you will see this since a few days have gone by since you wrote. I just wanted to say that I have learned through the teachings of Christian Science that there are no disappointments. And when a major one occurs I can say,” I am not disappointed because I know something better is coming along.” And invariably the right position, answer, provision always does. Hope this helps.
