No need for excuses

September 15, 2022 | 9 comments

He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else.

~ Benjamin Franklin

There is a huge freedom to be gained when one realizes excuses for poor performance are not necessary.

God never holds anything negative against us. Divine Love sees all the good about us and is 100% working to ensure we experience that goodness to the fullest.

Excuses are self-indulgence and serve no healing purpose.

When things go wrong, we can avoid the temptation to make excuses. We can stay focused on demonstrating events going right! God will support the honest sincere heart.

Let all energy and attention be focused on getting it right, and everyone involved will be happier.

  1. At the CS school I went to we were often told not to say “ I can’t do ….” But rather to say “ I can’t do it YET!” Knowing that as Gods expressions we have the ability to do whatever we need to do .
My mum’s version of this was “ Success comes in CANS not cant’s”

    1. Thanks Diane, I’ve also heard a similar idea that instead of thinking “I can’t,” think, “How can I.” This is an open ended question that gets us focused on unlimited possibilities.

Evan thank you for this comforting message that we don’t need to make excuses for ourselves when things seem to go wrong. I’m often strongly tempted to feel that I must prove that I am RIGHT, which can lead to lots of excuses and self-justification — this is a material view, a dead end path. I’ve heard it said, “Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy?”

So good to hear that we can let go of a sense of personal doership and just turn back to God and humbly acknowledge that He is the doer of all that is real, and it’s all good. If we are confronted by others about a mistake or shortcoming we can take accountability (if it is justified) and humbly state we will try to do better, while inwardly turning to God for guidance and direction. Love to all!

  2. How amusing and ironic, that after I carefully edited my dictation, thinking I was out of speech to text mode, I pressed send and then read the post that was full of Siri changing my words and spelling to different meaning. Oy vey! I will try to find a solution to that I’ll let you enjoy puzzling it through to your own amusement or edification.

    1. Hi Edith, I was wondering about your excellent SV post from yesterday on the topic of inflation. I was reading it early in the day but didn’t get a chance to finish and when I went back to SV in the evening it was gone. Does anyone know what happened? Evan do you know?

  3. Of course Evan’s post today is perfectly timed. I have been using the excuse that I’m too much ‘in my head’ for something I was having trouble with. It’s so clear that only God is in my head. Not me! Today I am focusing on getting it right because I know Who guides, guards, and governs me. Thank you!

  4. Thank you Evan. If we open to page 100 of Mrs. Eddy’s main work Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures we will find Benjamin Franklin amongst others telling us that ‘ there is no proof of the existence of the animal magnetic fuid’. With this understanding, it is clear that God, good fills all space and is the only true attraction. Living as God’s reflection makes it possible to get on in life without excuses.
