No shut down of progress

“Progress is spiritual.”

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Miscellany, p. 181

With economies around the world reeling or recovering from business shutdowns over past months, it might be tempting to believe that progress has been shut down in one’s own experience from the lack of work or from obedience to stay at home rules. But don’t believe it! As Eddy reminds us above, real progress is spiritual. You can always be progressing in your life, increasing your demonstration of true health, supply, and happiness, independent of government mandates.

If anything, the space of time one may have from staying home, can be used productively to improve one’s quality of thinking and experience more than ever. When thinking goes up, the human experience goes up. It’s that simple and straightforward. Mind governs our experience, never matter.

Whatever you decide to be true will appear to be your truth. So, be sure to side with spiritual truth and live progressively!

Your mind is the divine Mind, and it enables you to excel, to reach grand heights, discover new possibilities, more health, healthier attitudes, and loftier desires.

To move ahead, be quick to banish all opponents to progress from consciousness. Kick out frustration, discouragement, selfish indulgence, self-pity, complaining or resenting. These are all unprogressive states of mind that would impoverish. They are of no benefit to you, and you have moral and spiritual authority to be rid of them.

I’ve been inspired by stories from people who needed a new job and found one despite the massive layoffs that have occurred. They didn’t let negative news become their story. They kept moving ahead despite the news. You can too!

God is the source of all supply, opportunity, possibility, employment, health, and happiness. God has not been shut down. Your ability to demonstrate God’s goodness hasn’t been shut down. You are free to progress without limit.

  1. When I was a child a dear sunday school teacher used to recommend us ” and don’t forget : seek the grace for today, each day ! ” Today, your message Evan, is a part of this “grace for today” I am praying for. I am so grateful for this post.

  2. This is a beautifully inspired post Evan…I will take this with me all day (s). Thank you for your continuing reminders of how special and spiritually we can look on our experiences to gain awareness of Gods Love and care…as you say..’no shut down of progress” ❣️

  3. Thanks Evan for your rich message full of Truth. We are all so blessed. I’m so grateful.

  4. I have been thinking basically along the same lines of thought Evan , could not have said it better. Thank you.

  5. Thank you Evan, for this uplifting, encouraging and blessing SpiritView.
Will print it out and take it with me to my RR service today, to go back to these Truth ideas when needed. And it is surely needed steadily. Your spiritual views are so blessing and healing, am very grateful for them!

    1. I look forward to spiritual posts in my inbox. I guess I could look a bit deeper on the word inbox, and that too could be interpreted, spiritually- incoming ideas from Divine. Thank you for taking the time to create these valuable and uplifting views, daily.

  6. Super! Just what I needed, chock full of ideas I will treasure, thanks once again Evan. And, I love the diversity of perspectives and additional links from everyone who comments daily on this blog, so thanks to you all too. Today I am sticking with – My Mind is the Divine Mind and I will listen moment by moment for that angel message……and there is nothing else!

  7. As a part of a school management I’m tempted to view the poor financial status of the school; as parents in India, especially in the State where I reside refuse to pay fees for their wards. One wonders how staff and expenses will be met! This blog today is uplifting for me as I’m directed to the TRUTH of SUPPLY! THANK YOU EVAN FOR THE ENCOURAGING UPLIFT!

  8. There Seems to be a lot of what you had written, Evan, “frustration, discouragement, self indulgence, self-pity, complaining or resenting” in the world today, despite our True, Spiritual heritage from God. Focussing on a current and future of prosperity, gratitude for our daily blessings and happiness, puts the past in the past, like we have awakened from a dream. As Mrs. Eddy had written, “It requires courage to utter truth: for the higher Truth lifts her voice, the louder will error scream, until its inarticulate sound is forever silenced in oblivion” (S & H 97: 22). Dwelling on the mortal sense of things does not progress us forward into the Truth of Reality.
Even in her time, Mrs. Eddy had written, “The material world is even now becoming the arena for conflicting forces. On one side there will be discord and dismay; on the other side there will be Science and peace.” It all begins with our own thinking, expressing the One Mind of Love.

  9. A little different perspective from a fellow Spiritviewer;

I have been out of the news loop lately. Oh, so that is what is going on? Hmmm. Very different from what I have been experiencing. . This has been a very productive last couple of months for me. Interesting that the news is reporting that “I” should be in economic distress. I don’t feel that at all. Or reporting that “I” should be fearful. Don’t feel fearful. Or that I should feel isolated? No. Or food shortages? No, if I couldn’t find something I wanted, I cooked something else. In fact, it is kind of fun to look up a new recipe and try it from time to time based on what I could get at the store. Sounds like the news isn’t so accurate after all if it is trying to tell me that. My normal activities changed a bit but they did not stop at all. In fact, when I was told I could not do my normal activities, I got creative and came up with new ones. It was kind of fun. I learned how to plug my iPhone into my tv so I could turn my living room into a gym (since I couldn’t do my normal physical activities). I got outside and walked parts of my neighborhood I had not walked before. I got home projects done that had been on the back burner for a while.
Now, why should I feel fearful about what “the news” is reporting? It doesn’t sound true at all.

    1. Bravo, Kirsten! I can relate entirely. Christian Science gives us a spiritual perspective that makes each so-called ‘challenge” an opportunity. Great statements, Evan: “Whatever you decide to be true will appear as your truth. Be sure to side with spiritual truth and live progressively.” That’s one to put on the bathroom mirror!

  10. Thank you Evan. Thoughts along the same line. Error has no voice, it cannot be heard. There is nothing error can seem to present that we have to respond to. Truth can’t be on lockdown. Truth wears no mask. “I will listen for Thy Voice, lest my footsteps stray, I will follow and rejoice all the rugged way”.

  11. Thank you Evan, and all!

Parts of a poem by Mary Baker Eddy (Poems, Pg. 22) came to thought this morning,
perhaps to help me pray about the world situation, relating to race-relations…

‘Tis writ on earth, on leaf and flower:
Love hath one race, one realm, one power.
Dear God! How great, how good Thou art
    To heal humanity’s sore heart;
To probe the wound, then pour the balm—
A life perfect, strong and calm.
The dark domain of pain and sin
Surrenders – Love doth enter in,
And peace is won, and lost is vice:
Right reigns, and blood was not its price.

    Mary Baker Eddy January, 1901

  12. What a lovely poem and so pertinent to today’s world – thanks for sharing it. And thanks to all for your comments!

  13. It might have been Mrs. Eddy who said the following, but I am not sure: “Creation is ever appearing and expanding and must ever continue to appear and expand from the nature of Its inexhaustible source.”

  14. Thank you, Evan, for your wonderful thoughts for today and everyone else too for their contributions. I, too, loved that poem of Mrs Eddy’s.
