If you ever feel like you’re carrying around troubles and woes from the past, it helps to remember that you are not a data bank for error! You are not a repository for mortal mind to deposit false beliefs into and hold them in storage.
You are a spiritual child of God! A spiritual child of God does not record material woes and review them.
A spiritual idea of God reflects spiritual Truth—the harmony and peace of God.
You are not a memory bank for error. You are a living record of Truth!

This made me think of what Mrs. Eddy said in Retrospection and Introspection, “The human history needs to be revised and the material record expunged.” (p. 22). Always loved this idea, so freeing to know the mortal so-called history can be washed clean. Like when a computer is reset and every old piece of information is deleted.

Thank you Rose for sharing that article. It is very interesting
in that the man found through his prayers that the anger
he felt after the accident was really not against the man who
caused the accident, but his own attitude to life needed to be
revised. He realised that it was this false attitude which he was
entertaining as his own which had caused the accident.
That was really digging deep, and was a revelation, since it removed the
effects of the seeming accident.
It is a good lesson in making sure we watch our thoughts in our daily lives,
and keep spiritually minded at all times.
Maggie glad you found the article helpful. Yes it was interesting how he recognized he was not really angry at the man and saw that he’d had an underlying belief that anger was, “a quality of thought that seemed to be part of my own present thought of myself. The incident had merely brought it to the surface.”
He had learned in CS that his true nature included nothing material, including anger or the possibility of accident. In pondering the situation in light of this, he suddenly felt compassion for the man, and the appearance of injury was gone. Perfect!

Thank you Evan. Thanks to all the contributors. This topic is a reminder to me. It reminds me of the fact that Life is only “now”, as is presented in one of Evan’s lectures.
Our leader Mary Baker Eddy makes it still clearer in her biographical sketch in Retrospection and Introspection, She recounts some unpleasant incidents. After telling of one particularly sad experience she writes, “The heavenly intent of earth’s shadows is to chasten the affections, to rebuke human consciousness and turn it gladly from a material, false sense of life and happiness, to spiritual joy and true estimate of being.”
I always pray to be able to rejoice in the now.This prayer comes along with the lifting up of burdens, of all sorts, “a material false sense of life and happiness to spiritual joy” is felt.

Such a beautiful and needed reminder which, to me, is at the heart of Christian Science practice. Thank you, Evan, ever so much for this wonderful SpiritView. Many times when dire reminders of past experiences would come to thought while praying, I would be tempted to ruminate about them. But prayer uncovers what needs to be healed and I soon realized that these negative thoughts were appearing to be seen through for the error they represented. They simply needed to be removed from thought because they were no part of the inseparable relationship that I (or anyone) has with our Father-Mother God!
I think everyone’s contributions on this post have replaced a data bank of error with a data bank of inspiration and truth!

Sometimes we think that we have forgotten past “victim” experiences
only to have them sneak into our present. We have to remind ourselves
of our “now” reality … where only spiritual goodness exists.
Like in past comments shouted, “Why did you do that?!” after like hitting
one’s thumb with a hammer and expecting comfort or “That’s the reason
why you shouldn’t have pets!” when consoling a senior pet who was
ready to pass on. These seemingly past experiences are really only mortal
dream shadows that fade away into oblivion when God/Spirit sweeps
them away with the Truth of divine Love.
Our focus always is to please God and these mortal reminders of a power
other than the divine Love that is always with us, is a constant challenge,
but one worth realizing.
I am reminded of S&H pg 103:25-31,
“The truths of immortal Mind sustain man, and they annihilate the fables
of mortal mind, whose flimsy and gaudy pretensions, like silly moths, singe
their own wings and fall into dust. In reality there is no mortal mind, and
consequently no transference to mortal thought and will-power.”
Then, we truly don’t havr “a data bank for woes”.

Well, I used sometimes to carry around some seeming past errors. But error is not true, what the word already says. As you say so wonderfully true, Evan, that we as God`s spiritual idea reflect spiritual Truth – the harmony and peace of God. We are not a memory bank of error – haha that`s yolly good!!
