If you have concerns about catching Covid when you circulate in public, or travel on public transportation, understanding spiritual truth can protect you from contagion while out and about.
About contagion, Mary Baker Eddy writes, “We weep because others weep, we yawn because they yawn, and we have smallpox because others have it; but mortal mind, not matter, contains and carries the infection”
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 153).
Contagion is transmitted in thought. It’s fear and belief moving in appearance from one mortal to another.
To stay healthy, it’s wise to keep one’s thinking in such a spiritually inspired place, that unwanted fears and beliefs from others don’t become our fears and beliefs.
Know your spiritual reality! Remember that health is a spiritual quality of God permanently built into your being as a child of God. You never lose it to a germ. It’s yours to reflect and enjoy forever.
The best protection from infection is a spiritual defense. Take it with you wherever you go, and you’ll be far better off.

I love this statement from “A Colloquy” in Unity of Good (p 24:4-5) when “good” responds to the claims of “evil:”
“My Mind is divine good, and cannot drift into evil.” And we can know this and claim it for ourselves, too, and expand on it: My Mind cannot drift into evil, be tempted to believe in contagion or evil, be pushed into evil. Why? Because my Mind is God, divine Love, and “In atmosphere of Love divine, I live and move and breath (and think). Period!

This word has something strong and protective, I can interpret it in 2 ways: 1) when we radiate Love of Spirit
Absolument nothing can penetrate our consciousness
Because it’s God’s Consciousness and 2) to radiate in our
Daily life is to bring to our world a little hope and sunshine.
There is an account in one of Mrs. Eddy’s writings I think, where she relates
that a child went to visit her friend, and when she got there she was told
that she couldn’t see her friend because she was ill, and if she let her
visit with her, she would catch it too. The little girl went home and asked
her Mother, “why should I catch sickness from here, why couldn’t she catch
health from me.” (or words to that effect). The innocence of a child saw
the reasonable truth.
So if we know the truth clearly, that there is no disease and that nothing
can touch our true spiritual being to harm us, we are not only protecting
ourselves, but helping to spread infectious goodness to everyone, by
seeing them in their true light also.

In God’s kingdom there is nothing harmful to God’s ideas. And that’s where we reside.
Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, pg 96; 12, “This material world is even now
becoming the arena for conflicting forces. On one side there will be discord and
dismay; on the other side there will be Science and peace. The breaking up of
material beliefs may seem to be famine and pestilence, want and woe, sin, sickness,
and death, which assume new phases until their nothingness appears.. These
disturbances will continue until the end of error, when all discord will be swallowed
up in spiritual Truth…Mortal error will vanish in a moral chemicalization. This mental
fermentation has begun, and will continue until all errors of belief yield to understanding….”
I love how so many are waking to the [T]ruth of mortal’s lies about so many things
today. Being aware of what is going on, but without taking itt in to thought, but only to
help alleviate it – brings such a feeling of power over these material beliefs. I do think
things are looking up in so many ways and it is very comforting to know that so many
are helping to do this, sometimes in ways and by persons that are least expected. Our
spiritual Reality shines through.
We radiate pure affection which God provides, of LOVE.
Over Christmas my son tested positive for Covid, I went to see him to drop off Xmas gifts as we wouldn’t be able to spend that day together. I made the choice to not get vaccinated for anything going around. Long story short, even though I took precautions, I got Covid 5 days after seeing him. I am new on the journey learning about Christian Science and God. Sometime it feels like my symptoms are my fault if my thoughts aren’t in line. The good new is I’m better now. Thanks!

Mortal mind would suggest that it was your fault that you tested positive after the loving gesture of dropping off Christmas presents to your son. When that happens to me I ask who is sending that thought? Then I stand firmly on the above verse.

Just this morning I struggled with 4 different problems, all
technical.
As I prayed over this I realized these are not problems, but opportunities. What a change of perspective.
Also, already one of them sorted out without any effort on my part.

Dear Claudia, Thank you for sharin your comment with us . I think sometimes we all
seem to be tempted to believe in the “symptoms” brought on a lot of times by the
fear mongering that seems prevalent so much these days. It is wonderful that you
overcame the temptation to believe in mortal mind’s darkness of thinking. I believe,
like if there is an aquarium and the fish seem to be struggling with symptoms, helping
to change their environment, fresh water .. invigorates them and takes away the dark,
polluted waters of worry, fear, etc,. by changing, in our situation – Thought. That is,
brightening our viewpoint with light and then we get to see the sunshine of Love
around us, the rainbows, the sunsets, the bliss that is there and always has been, but
sometimes seems missing.
These rays of light obliterate the false beliefs that would Try to invade our thought and
by understanding and replacing them with the Truth/God, as you did, we become in
“a spiritually inspired place”, as Evan so lovingly states above. We scour the waters of
doubt and fear with the fresh Thoughts of health and peace.

Rest assured, that catching Covid is not an occasion to feel guilty or place blame. It’s an occasion to know all the spiritual reasons why you have a right to be free of Covid, and live happy and healthy.
Practicing Christian Science is all about practicing Love. If there is any finger pointing, it is never at person. It’s at mortal mind. Mortal mind is always the guilty one for suggesting and arguing that we need to suffer for some material reason. Our prayer is to “come out and be separate,” from what mortal mind would penalize us with, and claim our God-given right to live healthy and free of suffering.
I encourage you to keep growing in your understanding of spiritual reality. It will continue to be a stronger and stronger defense for you against suggestions of mortal mind.
We do what we can demonstrate successfully in Christian Science, and in this way continue to take the steps we’re ready to demonstrate with success.
Thank you for your response. I am so grateful that I recovered from the worst of symptoms fairly quickly, fatigue the only lasting issue. I do also have chronic health issues of the last 4 years that led me to CS 15 months ago. My grandmother was a CS and I had a thought to reach out to a practitioner. I’ve been on a journey ever since and am so grateful to the people and community I have met at the church where I am now a member. Lot’s of love there. I do pray that my chronic issues will heal. It can be scary.

Hi Claudia, this statement is from the christianscience.com website: “The Bible says that “God is love” (I John 4:16). God’s love is at the core of Christian Science. Mary Baker Eddy wrote that “Divine Love is the substance of Christian Science, the basis of its demonstration, yea, its foundation and superstructure. Those who practice Christian Science do their best to live the bold, generous, and compassionate love that Christ Jesus laid out in his Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7). This is the heart of its Christianity.” To me, “doing your best” means just that…there should never be any guilt, condemnation, judgment, or any other negative feelings – there can’t be since God is ALL, and ALL is LOVE. You are embraced in that love right now and always. 🙂

I bandaged them, and as I was CS Nurse at that time and could not work like that, I asked a dear practitioner who helped me, so that I could work again within one to two weeks with healed hands. O Lord am I grateful for CS and all the wonderful practitioners. Love to a l l ♡
A lovely demonstration, Uta, and thank you, J , for a great article on space, that as the
article mentions, “God Does fill all … That is the truth of space. It’s the Truth of God.
And it is the truth that because of the very nature of truth, is applicable everywhere and
at all times”. What could be better than that?
Mrs. Eddy has a lot to say about “animal magnetism” which seems to be a big issue with
the mortal beliefs of today’s topic. On pg# 102 of S &H, she writes, (and even back then,
but it Seems even more so, now) – “… its aggressive features are coming to the front…
hidden in the dark recesses of mortal thought, are every hour weaving webs more
complicated and subtle… ” (- the last segment shedding most light).
From the tall est redwood towering/reaching to the heavens right up to the very end
of space or the wee chipmunk burrowing to store it’s hoard of birdseed to fill it’s den
for the winter …God fills every thought with excellence and encouragement, sifting
through the mortal, leaving only the divine in it’s place. .
I love the testimony of a young boy who came home from school feeling ill. The school nurse had told him there were “bugs”. he had gotten in his tummy that were doing it. As he lay on his bed, he thought about what he knew about God, who loved him and made all things. He thought, well, if there are bugs there, then God made them, and they must be friendly! His sweet love of this truth healed him quickly.
My husband works at a school and I am finding I have opportunities to know the truth about contagion. Right now, I think in terms of substance. The thoughts of God are substance, and do fill all space, as Mr. Barratt’s article shared by J states. I don’t think so much along the lines of matter vs. spirit as much as everything just being God’s thoughts. Period. I think of everybody at school not being able to circulate outside of God’s thoughts, so they have not come into contact with any substance that is harmful anywhere and have not brought them with them to school. Everyone is filled with the substance of God’s loving thoughts. That’s it. God is the superspreader of His own goodness. At one point we both seemed to be starting to experience the aggressive symptoms and the thought came that I wasn’t going to be able to stop this. I immediately thought that’s right. This is God’s show. He doesn’t allow any mental “backwash” to contaminate Him. And He’s doing our thinking. I called a practitioner. It was quickly dispelled for both me and my husband, who is not a Christian Scientist. I was VERY helped by this blog’s idea of vaccination, which my husband had to have to work. I held it was just water. I found that as I knew that fact, no power in it at all to do good or evil, my husband had no effects. When I let down my thought, the effects tried to come in and I quickly went back to being vigilant.
I also pray from the Bible that the devices of man are of none effect. Man has no power to create something in a lab that can harm God’s thinking, which is the body of thought we all reflect. Our Christ body.
Such a metaphysical richness of ideas and inspirations are blessing us all in this Blog! Thanks a lot Kay for that beautiful testimony of the boy! And thanks Carol for your lovely thoughts.
