Are You Put Out or Compassionate

When imposed upon by other people, is your first reaction to shove them away in disgust, or to consider lending them your shoulder to lean on?

Here’s a fun quick video that prompts the question.

“Sleeping on strangers on the subway”

  1. Every second,
    Of every day,
    Is an opportunity,
    To help
    Those around us,
    To share
    God’s love,
    To share
    The Christ.

    Your moment,
    Is Now!

  2. Thought provoking. Not sure what I would do to be honest. God blesses those who loan their shoulders, sounds like a new beatitude.:-)

  3. It’s too bad that I am home bound or else I would ride the subway just to see if a stranger would take a nap on my shoulder. What a unique way of making new friends. Only Evan can find these things.

  4. I like to be helpful to others. I try not to be offended by others. Sometimes you may feel a little out of sorts if you go out of your way to do kind things and sometimes you feel unappreciated or taken advantage of if you are doing too much. I like to think what is the other person going through and would I like to be in his shoes. I’m comfortable with giving.

  5. What a wonderful reminder! It warmed my heart when the person placed the sleeping man’s hat back on his head. It shows small, simple ways we can show our love to one another. Thank you! I’m sharing this video with my Sunday School students.

  6. Love it!! Have had that happen to me. Just figured the person needed more sleep! He woke up after a very short time and said “sorry – rough night.”

  7. Oh my. I am a jaded New Yorker. I used to carry a little change in my pocket because I would give money from my pocket but never open my bag, I will help anyone up a set of stairs, hold a door, give them my sandwich, share my umbrella but I would not let someone sleep on me. Just can’t. I have had a few bad experiences with the closeness that comes with riding the subway. But I get your point that opportunities arise all the time to show a little kindness and share in the joy.
