“Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.”

~ Apostle Paul, Galatians 6:1, NLT

  1. I’m very grateful for this post. “And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.”
This line stood out to me as a warning and also as a protection against self righteous thinking.

  2. As a student of C/S, this is my job. It’s a wonderful feeling of accomplishment when done properly. At this very moment we were both blessed. What a wonderful discovery MBE had.

  3. Valuable directive. Supports the Matthew Code. And in my lifetime experience as a church member, I have seen many occasions when folks shirked their responsibility to obey this
ethical responsibility. Perhaps we assume it applies only to gross sins, and is not needed for preventing petty, self-righteous, judgmental treatment, & dis-respect of fellow church members. Or not to domineering, arrogant behavior that warps civil democratic decisions.

Error, like fog, “creeps in on little cat feet.” As a church congregation is a ‘laboratory’ for practicing CS, we can honor and perfect, and celebrate our diplomacy for earnest Love
& brotherhood /sisterhood. Thanks for the gentle nudge.

  4. Yes, and I find that the error is always in my thinking – never in anyone else. When a sin or flaw of any kind appears in myself or another person, I must get a better view of God, who made all and actually is all. The picture will be adjusted for the good. I don’t mean to imply that this is always easy, but it can be a joyous work. Thanks Evan.
