Reason out from spiritual existence

When you pray for healing, are you reasoning out from spiritual existence, or letting thought slip into believing you are a vulnerable mortal subject to suffering? It’s important to discern the difference.

Jesus Christ came to teach humanity the truth about our existence, that we are not mortal bodies destined to die, but spiritual beings designed to live forever with God in Spirit.

All prayer in Christian Science is based upon spiritual reality, that we are spiritual beings now, made in the image of God, filled with health, harmony and peace to reflect without limit.

Jesus instructed, “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (John 3:6, NKJV). To believe one is “of the flesh,” is to believe that one is a mortal prone to suffering. Faith that healing is possible may waver. If one understands that man is “born of the Spirit,” doubt disappears, and conviction takes over that one can’t help but reflect health to the fullest, for one knows that every creature born of the Spirit possesses sound health.

Suffering, disease, and lack are “born of the flesh.”

Health, strength, peace and life are “born of the Spirit,” and rightfully belong to every child of God.

Jesus also taught, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing” (John 6:63, NKJV). This is a clear explanation that life, and all its attendant conditions and qualities, come from Spirit. They do not come from matter, or any physical construct.

Spirit is what gives you life, health, strength, poise, clarity and abundance.

Reason out from Spirit when you pray. Accept Spirit as your one and only reality.

Know Spirit as your All-in-all. Let the truth about your being in Spirit wash any error about matter out of your thinking and let the spiritual truth about God’s spiritual man take possession of consciousness.

You are a Spirit-being. Not later, after death. But today, in Life!

“For right reasoning there should be but one fact before the thought, namely, spiritual existence”
Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p. 492.

  1. Born of the Spirit! Starting my prayer today right there today. This is so good, Evan. Thank you.

  2. So timely a thought starter! My two favorite “trigger” images are on my computer as background when I start the day – a lighthouse to remind me God’s first thought was “Let there be light” – therefore there is no darkness, and as a reminder when I come back to start every new thought/action – a screen saver with a person (me!!) standing on a huge rock base ” There is only one presence and one power as the universe and life – God the good, omnipotent and omniscient” Always helps me get centered after a long commute to work, and re-centered during the day when it feel like all h*** is breaking loose!

  3. So how would a Spiritual Idea approach this moment? Our Leader tells us, “A spiritual idea has not a single element of error and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive.” ( S&H 463: 12-13)
So, a Spiritual Idea is whole, complete, satisfied, safe in divine Love, strengthened, convinced, grounded in divine Truth, sustained, energized, limitless in divine Life, inspired, resourceful, comprehensive in divine Mind, radiant, harmonious, fetterless in divine Soul, balanced, logical, steadfast in divine Principle. Starting point and ending point, NOW. (As in : “Now are we the sons of God…” 1 John: 3) ((What comes to mind next, is the theme of this year’s Annual Meeting: If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. “))

  4. To start with Spirit and know that we are spiritual beings who live in Mind, in Spirit, takes away the “strain and stress” and lets “our ordered lives confess the beauty of Thy peace.” (Hymn 49) Thanks, Evan.

  5. Thanks a lot, Evan, such a really helpful and healing lesson about our real being totally in and of Spirit , divine Love !

Thank you all for your comment.

    1. Oh, just thought of a passage in S&H on p. 14, I do love: “Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligience are purely spiritual, – neither in nor of matter, – and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well.”

If you ponder this passage a bit deeper, it is very comforting and healing.

I am very grateful, dear Evan for your thorough and loving metaphysical explanations about today`s important topic!
