The promotion of disease seems to be everywhere these days.
On my airline, the little napkins served with drinks were pink and all about breast cancer in October. One of my favorite cereal boxes suddenly turned pink. Pink packages, pink containers, pink boxes, pink, pink, pink, seemed to be everywhere.
I have nothing against the color pink, but when the carnal mind aggressively connects an innocent pretty color to a vicious evil disease, it’s hard to not grow uncomfortable with it.
I understand that a group of concerned citizens want to promote awareness of the need to fight breast cancer and free people of it, but this is not the way to do it. Disease needs to be torn down in thought, not built up, to free mankind from its bane.
Many of the aggressive campaigns behind cancer awareness leave an impression on public thought that’s the opposite of what is intended.
I don’t know how many people have called me, and in a panic mode say something like, “I can’t even turn on the TV without being told I’m going to die soon from some dreaded disease.”
Fear is at the root of disease. If concerned citizens wanted to help humanity the most, they would focus their efforts in the direction of dissolving people’s fear of disease, not creating more of it.
But in the meantime, the rest of us can do something. We do not have to idly sit by and soak in the unwanted messages. We can resist campaigns for disease with a counter metaphysical campaign of spiritual truth that neutralizes the fear and sets public thought free from worry.
God did not make disease. And God did not make a power that could create disease, impose it on mankind and force people to serve it. Jesus Christ showed us how to overcome disease through prayer and spiritual understanding of our God-given right to live healthily. Evil is not the power it claims to be. The omnipotence of God overcomes it. We can claim this reality for ourselves and our neighbor and demonstrate it.
When I see a cancer awareness campaign in action, I don’t ignore it anymore, or pretend like it’s not there. I send a treatment in its direction. I counter the message of “You might get cancer,” with something to the effect of, “I cannot get cancer. I am spiritual. God made me well and keeps me well. My neighbor is not susceptible to cancer either. Divine Love protects one and all.”
If you are at all interested in staying healthy and keeping your family members or neighbors healthy, I encourage you to be a spiritual activist on this issue! Don’t be naïve about the negative influence these campaigns can have on thought if not spiritually resisted.
It’s a call to spiritual arms really! Any attempt of the carnal mind to impress disease more deeply on humanity’s thought must be resisted and countered with positive healing spiritual images of Truth and Love in order to preserve health.

I’ve also been thinking along the lines that God never designated any month as a disease. It is an artificial designation, but during that month, that disease is brought up incessantly.
After a while it seems as though the proverbial drip has become a deluge, a constant reversal of truth, and especially in those months, as if there were no protection.
I’ve found that I need to be vigilant in the particular months — and beforehand — so as to keep my head above the aggressive sense that there is only one way (medical) to handle a disease.
Many thanks, Evan, this comes timely for me. I too saw the pink campaign when I traveled to USA last month. In a way I was trying to ignore it but somehow it stuck in my thought. Moreover, I was forwarded a true story of a young girl who didn’t survive from cancer. After her death, her aunt writes a blog about this girl who against all odds kept her faith until her last breath. At first, I was feeling a bit disappointed on how she couldn’t survive, she was only 14!
But I know now how to think about this thing, thanks to your inspiring message. Bless your kind heart.
Evan, this is powerful. Disease will never be eradicated by making it bigger than life. Your message to meet this overt campaigning of disease is deeply appreciated. It awakened me that I have been tolerating the “pink” campaign without meeting the lie of disease head on. I am beginning to see that each time we are presented with pictures of disease we HAVE to counterfact it with the truth of man’s being. And not in a mamby pampy sort of way either. Great message, Evan, and one we all need to heed. Lately, it seems that the evening news has become a health report. I find myself not only sending out healing thoughts to counteract terrorism, lack, and greed, but erroneous health reports, as well. My watching the news has become an opportunity to send a healing message to the world. This has to do some good.

Error cloaks itself in the lie of some benefit (that God couldn’t or wouldn’t provide)that we will receive if we “just eat the apple.” The results of taking in such falsity have not changed since the illusion of life in matter began. Thank you so much for this. Last year at my Association, my teacher said “You never call materia medica–it calls you!” I realize how true this is more and more. I pray defensively about it daily. How aggressive are some of these suggestions? Well, right now on every major drug store, grocery store and other places, too, on the outside are big signs for flu vaccinations, as well as signs inside. I always pray to negate that suggestion. But recently my husband laid the newspaper down by my place at the table, and there was nearly a page ad with huge “Flu” written on it! It’s like you can’t get away from it! I had to dispose of the paper and the thought! As for the ‘pink’ products, I tend not to buy them as I think of it as a way of exploiting–and aggressively keeping that thought in front of the public. Thanks for exposing it so well.

Thanks for the great post: will apply the concepts here: campaigns for disease should not be ignored. As you say, there’s some harm being done though the people behind it mean well.
I’ve also seen cancer in particular as a statement (lie) in itself that Christian Science can’t heal or that God doesn’t heal or respond to prayers for healing.
In fact there are lots of testimonies of people healed of diagnosed cancer by CS treatments over the last 130 years even (the old magazines like the CS Journal/Sentinel)…
Thank you for this timely message. When these types of ads, news articles, etc. come on I immediately start doing a treatment for what I know is the TRUTH about all mankind and it certainly doesn’t include anything about material medica. I only know that man/woman is the true reflection of GOD and that God made everything VERY GOOD so there can’t be anything but GOOD in our lives and those of our friends and neighbors.
Evan, thank you for sharing the mental ‘tools’ to use when the world bombards us with these images of ill health. The use of colours is starting to become very popular with many health awareness campaigns and it certainly is clever marketing for promotion purposes, but the ideas you have shared, to stand by God’s truth and resist disease for ourselves and the wider community are invaluable – thanks.
You have to wonder would Jesus be standing holding a sign to promote matter or disease..OF COURSE NOT!!..So as Christian Scientists we must follow Christ Jesus and DENY its power it can claim nothing because God is the Only power, Mind, Love, Truth, Principle!..
Christ Jesus certainly would not promote it and allow it to grow! The Christ wiped out any possibility that matter has power!…he healed many..along with his disciples. We owe them a debt and we can repay it by praying for the world..acknowledging God as the ONLY Loving, Good, Father- Mother of us All.
The Christ Love heals!…it is divine Truth and we must stand behind these ideas and never claim the opposite for ourselves or the world!
Disease is a belief only it is not our true reality..don’t be tempted to believe a lie about God’s child we must see God child through all our fellow men! See the Love that God sees in them!
