Seek what you need

“You can never get enough of what you don’t need to make you happy.”

~ Eric Hoffer

It’s not lots of things that make people happy, but truth and love.

Seek what truly satisfies, and enjoy an enriching Christmas.

  1. The spiritual lesson is wonderful. The picture of those smiling children captures the essence of Christmas for me: pure JOY!

  2. I have learned to live with much less material “stuff” than in past years and it has given me so much more – more peace, freedom, contentment and best of all a sense of “uncluttered thinking”!
Less is always more . . .and knowing that Divine Love is embracing me and all every moment is more than enough! Grateful for enough. . .and this enough is much! Merry Christmas, joy and love to all! Pass on the Christmas cheer to all you meet – it is the simple thoughtfulness of a smile, kind deed or compliment that brings warmth to all.

  3. Thank You, Jane! You’ve definitely got the Christmas Spirit!! I, too, have chosen to have a much simpler, quieter Christmas this year – tea with a Friend and a Christmas Eve Program at the local Presb. Church……A long distance call from a dear friend on Christmas Morning who is also “solo-ing it” this Christmas and we’ll chat while smelling our Marie Calendar Turkey dinners roasting in the oven!! Can’t wait to enjoy a simple Christmas with Love and Friendship and without all the “Hoop La” this year! Simple Christmas Love to All! Bevi

  4. This is so important Evan. I once worked with a very unhappy individual about whom someone said: “She is trying to fill a spiritual void with material things!” This is impossible of course and I love the way Eric Hoffer has expressed it. So grateful to have Christian Science and the true meaning of Christmas. I have been reading and rereading the words to hymn 170.

  5. knowing and feeling God’s Love for us.

knowing and feeling God’s Presence and Guidance.

And , yes, Love Peace and Joy and a very happy Christmas for everybody !!

Thanks dear Evan for making us ponder this toppic!

  6. God and His goodness expressed to each other through loving words and deeds is what brings peace and joy to us and others. The love and joy of this season comes through the music and beauty around us. No pressure, harried thoughts, and cares. These can be erased by focusing on the good and love of this precious season. I’m really trying to see that my motive for my holiday preparations is love. Then I can’t feel pressured or inadequate. I love all your comments!

  7. I left for work this morning continuing to think about what is so important about this season – sharing love to others (even when we don’t know them)! I am a hostess at a restaurant and an elderly gentleman came in and sadly informed me that his wife had passed on prior to Thanksgiving. He had cared loving for her (around the clock) for the past 3 years and was clearly distraught (with large tears running down his face) just even thinking about the upcoming holiday. I was silent for a moment and then said, I don’t know if you know this, but God is caring for you and your family and He will get you through the holiday. I know it sometimes seems as if we question – where is God?, but He is always embracing us at every moment and we never have to doubt that. His tears stopped immediately and he said with authority, I DO know that. YES, I do! He became peaceful. The moment of two people connecting while acknowledging this fact, that God IS present and available was an indescribable Christmas gift to both of us and joy, not sadness, was felt as he continued his meal. Thank you, God, for directing us on how to share your love and for the awareness that this love is readily available to all!!

  8. Thank you Jane for this loving experience, making clear that God and His Christ is always here with us all – so merry Christmas to all!
Thank God and Evan for this blessing SpiritView Blog!
