Thanks Evan, this post made me think of a smile as being the lead and most readily apparent part of the full armor of God. What better armor could there be than that which proactively and preventively disarms and deescalates would-be ‘threats,’ the way a smile does. And also makes any already good situation even better. And instead of weighing you down, increases your overall levity and bouyancy.
Not that I believe in such (I like sci-fi movies for what they reveal about human aspirations and fears), I’d bet ten bucks that if truly advanced beings were to land on the White House lawn to say hello, they’d be smiling as part of the advanced-being thing.
What a beautiful double reminder for me. For years I have had my computer set up to play her “Love is Like a Butterfly” as my personal alarm.
