Sin does not control you

One of the glorious truths of Christian Science is that man is not a sinner. It’s what the Bible teaches. Man in God’s image cannot sin. He has the mind of Christ, which is the Mind of God. God does not sin. The Mind of God does not sin. Man, in divine Mind’s image, does not sin.

But in everyday human experience, it sure seems like the opposite at times.

“Why did I eat too much? Why did I tell a white lie? Why did I get angry? Why am I depressed?” are some of the sinful states of mortal mind that appear real and true to the human sense at times.

When studying the Bible lesson on the unreality of sin, disease and death last week, it suddenly hit me one morning that sin cannot control my thinking any more than a mathematical error can control the thinking of a mathematician.

Whoa! I liked that.

Dishonesty cannot make me dishonest. Greed cannot make me greedy. Depression cannot get me depressed. Anger cannot make me angry. Ignorance cannot make me ignorant.

I am not a pawn of sin. My intellect revolted! I belong to God. I am born of God’s Mind, not Adam’s supposed sinful mind apart from God.

I have the Mind of Christ guiding me, directing me, inspiring me, and compelling me to do the right thing every time I make a decision. The Mind of Christ does not sin. Reflecting the Mind of Christ, I do not sin either. Sin has no control over me.

I need to demonstrate this truth more successfully! But it certainly helped me to see that sin does not control my thinking. The belief that it did was illusion, and it was time to quit believing the illusion!

  1. Very powerful – we certainly need to remember better that sin is anything that separates us from the knowledge that we are the expression of the one Mind and all our thoughts come from above. Thank you for showing us the way to deny all other thoughts. Vicki

  2. Thank you Evan!
I just had this wonderful insight on Monday! I’ve kept praying for the whole week with this “Sin has no control over me” and things got worst on Movies watching wise.
Then on Monday after this insight and after having passed a few hours in recognizing my true identity as an expression of Mind- possessing my God giving dominion – the spell was broken as naturally as turning on the light in a dark room.
We are all so grateful for this blog, for the prayers and for God being God and expressing His/Herself right now throughout the universe!

  3. Powerful antidote for the temptation to overeat, over indulge in TV watching, under indulge in right activity.
I appreciate the clarity and truth expressed

  4. Thank you again for another powerful insight. As I read it, I thought of the statement in S & H page 379:1–If disease can attack and control the body without the consent of mortals, sin can do the same for both are errors……….I would like to demonstrate more that disease cannot control my thinking any more than sin. Of course, they amount to the same thing–a mind separate from God.
Again, thank you for your blog and the wonderful insights you share so freely! Much love!
