Spiritual attention

If you have attention issues, or work with others who have a hard time focusing on the immediate need of the moment, it can help to know the truth about attention.

Real attention is spiritual. It’s the ability to hear and receive wisdom and understanding coming from the Mind of God, that in turn, results in calm, sound reasoning and action that reflect the intelligence and wisdom of God.

Every one of us, as children of God, have spiritual attention.

I was speaking with a grown man that appeared to have attention issues. His thought was racing from one topic to another. He spoke fast. He did lots of talking, and little listening. I had a very difficult time interjecting any input that I thought was necessary for us to work together on an important project.

This was a very intelligent and capable individual, but how to get his attention for a few moments and converse with him, was proving elusive.

I stayed calm. I prayed. After a bit, I caught a clear glimpse of his individuality as a child of God. In my prayers, I heard, “You reflect the Mind of God. You have God-inspired attention. You can listen and hear what others have to say.” The change was remarkable. He stood still. He stopped talking. He sat down. He listened. I was able to share everything I needed to share, and we were stronger as a team than ever.

Attention is not random, lost, absent, scattered, or ignorant. Attention is not mortal, physiological, chemical, or neural. Attention is spiritual. It comes from God, and every one of us, as children of God, have it to express without fail.

  1. To be focused on what is right here ( goodness, relationships, the joy of completing a project) is God focused reality..
To be distracted is to experience unreality.. a belief that God is not one and all..
The remedy would be to return to the reality in the first commandment.. Have no other Gods but one..And that God is “good” so we are simply choosing to focus on God’s goodness..

  2. This is exactly what I have been praying about in recent days! Focusing and staying with each task at hand is so basic and simple but when we lose this or allow distractions, then we suffer or are in great danger depending on what the job is at hand.
I learned from watching a C.S. Lecturer, Jon Benson, that Worshipping is Healing. There is only 1 God and God is perfect. I reflect this Oneness every second; the more I worship God, the clearer the reflection! God is Love. There is nothing to fear. God is Mind–my mind! This knowledge is a gift from God and enables us to solve problems, stop bad behaviour, patiently and persistently stick with the Truth–which we learn from the Bible Lesson every day. My full time job is the love the Lord, my God, and my neighbour as myself.
‘Glory be to God on high,
    God whose glory fills the sky;
Peace on earth to man is given,
Man, the well-beloved of heaven.’ Hymn 72.

  3. Thank you for this opportunity to discuss attention to our spiritual mindedness. If understood correctly (?) – mortal thought can be very vague and questioning at times as to what is
meant, who is saying what, was that interpreted correctly? Wasn’t this meant by that?
    What IS going on?
Without really being able to communicate, like with the gentleman Evan, that you had
gotten to listen to you – things can be misinterpreted when mortal mind is trying to convey
or figure out the meaning of things. One “mortal” way of thinking of something can be
completely different from what another “mortal” is thinking about the same thing. For
example the number 6 can be seen from a different perspective from someone else as a 9.
Neither is wrong, but just from a different vantage point. To try to guess without Knowing
circumstances, can be very frustrating – mortally, where one knows what is going on and
the other doesn’t. If circumstances can not be discussed, reasoning is also in interpretation
    through one-sided material “logic”.
Spiritual being in tune does not need a mortal presence, as thought transcends above
the mortal and as the Truth be known, is a blessing in it’s own domain. Truth revealed,
as in, “the truth shall set us free” is the divine way of spiritual attention…as I understand it.
Would love to hear others thoughts on this, as I am not sure I am understanding correctly.

    1. (Angel, in response to how to watch “Perfect Days” from the other day, you can rent it online via YouTube and other platforms. Very easy to do. Watched it last night. A lovely, quiet, thoughtful movie ie appreciating the simple things in life.)

      1. Dear L, I’m happy to hear you were able to watch and enjoy the film. And thanks for the tip about YouTube. Even though I already saw it at the theater I know I’ll want to watch it again.

      2. Thank you, L . (Please see my yesterday’s response to what you suggested).
From the reviews and parts I have seen, it looks wonderful and will wait til
it comes online without needing to sign up or rent or purchase. I am certain
tears of joy would be flowing throughout the whole movie. Even the reviews
were very touching with God-inspired thoughts shared and do look forward
        to seeing it, eventually.

        1. PS. Just saw it in the theatre and it was wonderful!! You, Rose and
L were right. It certainly did bring out about appreciating all of the
beauty around us. Even tho he led a simple, mundane life and had
very little, he was such a kind and lovely person to others and was
rich in Spirit. # Thank you so much for suggesting it.
I had asked my neighbor if she might be interested in joining me and
she loved it, too. Neither of us has been to the movies in years, so
it was great for both of us. I loved how the trees and reflections and
God’s beauty in nature was accentuated and appreciated. Very Lovely

          1. Angel I am so happy to hear that you and your neighbor enjoyed a lovely outing and experience together. It makes me glad that I followed my instinct to mention the film on SpiritView. We never know the ripples that our willingness to share can create.

          2. Yes, Rose, I’m glad you mentioned the movie, also. I hesitated
to ask her, because throughout and since the pandemic, she
according to her belief in health issues she seems to have,
prefers to be distant from people, but she actually pounced
at the chance and replied right away that she would love to
join me in seeing it, so I was elated as I do not feel comfortable
doing things like that alone, like to the movies or sit-down
restaurant and wouldn’t have gone otherwise. Actually, she was so
anxious that we went within hours of my mentioning it, so, I, too,
was very happy as she was. You are so right, that one never knows what ripple effect can occur with our willingness to share and we
are both glad for your mentioning it.

  4. Perfect solution to an challenge at hand. As a mediator I’ve witnesses on several occassion where that imballance was identified between the two parties. On one occassion the party displaying the inability to keep their attention on the issue as stick to beat the other party .This made it very difficult to conduct the mediation.

Your solution is a perfect response to that occassion. Thank you for this example.

  5. Dear Evan, Thank you so much for this very timely subject. 6 months ago my wife suffered a series of strokes. As a result there is short n memory loss as well as he poi physical challenges. She does not Christian Science but supports me. I have been working with a in i practitioner who has been very / and helpful in my role as my wife’s caregiver. I work with her on exercises that from a material standpoint are to improve her and physically. Spiritually I know that all action is in and comes from Mind/God and is good, not short term not long term. Mind is Mind. She reflects that perfect healthy Mind. There have been many times of frustration both for her and myself but my practictioner has been so helpful in overcoming that false belief. I would be very grateful for any thoughts that our SpiritView community can share on the subject of attention/memory loss. Thank you Evan and Love to all. Jim

    1. Dear Jim..perhaps you may find it helpful to begin with understanding that your wife..a beloved thought of God..has not experienced a stroke in the first place…it never happened to her as a Spirit women.

Isaiah 43:18-19 Bible verse: Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?

God knows what you both need and is indeed supplying it right now. MBE says to start by allaying fear….I hope this is helpful for you. All will be well because all IS well. B.x

      1. Dear Jim, I have had a similar experience about 30 some years
ago where my husband (also not CS) had seeming challenges
of a stroke. It was months of driving him around to appointments
and many other issues mortal mind was presenting us with at the
time. It took a lot of patience, understanding, along with CS
thoughts that kept myself uplifted and I can relate to some extent
to what you seem to be going through. After many challenges, he did
recover fully in the way he chose and then a while after, when he no
longer needed my help, decided to part ways, for which my friends
couldn’t understand how I could not be bitter. But forgiveness was
a lesson I learned and was the only way to see him was as a child of
God (and throughout the whole time, before and after this ordeal). I
still spiritually see him as a child of God and he is with someone else
        now, apparently .
My point is that – with God’s help and Love, we All are cared for, even
in the most challenging of times. Your dear kindness will be rewarded.
Dear Barbara, your Isaiah verse is very helpful, as are all of the loving
        thoughts (always) shared here.
In gratitude and love to all.

    2. Dear Jim. bless your heart, you are expressing God’s qualities of Love and Devotion and Care to your dear wife. That in itself is very healing. You are getting spiritual support for yourself from the practitioner and that is so important to keep you uplifted and to keep thought in proper channels. Also ditto to what Barbara said, in truth your wife never experienced any change, she is the same in Spirit as she has always been, the same yesterday, today and forever. Perfect God, perfect man/woman. Rest assured that God is doing whatever needs to be done and is taking wonderful care of both of you, rest in that. Much love.

  6. Evan it is a timely topic. We hear a lot in society about ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) or ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). I have compassion for parents who have challenging situations with their children in these ways and often these children (and adults too) are given medications that they hope will improve their focus, attention, calmness and productivity. But right in the words we see the error– Deficit – Disorder – Hyperactivity. These imply things that are impossible to God’s child, reflecting one divine Mind. We know there can be no deficit (lack, deficiency) or hyperactivity (excess or too much) or disorder (something not working right, out of balance). God is in perfect balance and order, no excess or deficiency, and we can prove that we are too.

Evan I love the way you prayed in that situation and saw quick, wonderful results to witness the man’s (and everyone’s) true state of spiritual stillness and attention.

  7. Dear Jim, We cannot lose our memory, because God is the all-knowing Mind which we
reflect. So He knows all we need to know. If we deny the claim of memory loss,
and claim the one Mind, then ask God what we need to know, He will reveal it to us. I
have demonstrated this frequently. The answer doesn;t always come immediately, but if we
stop trying to remember, and let God tell us, we will get the answers we need. They just
suddenly pop into your mind when you are not bothering about it. The more this is put into practice, the less the claim of a loss of memory bothers us, and the false claim eventually disappears. completely. We actually all have the mind of Christ, and we can prove it.

I also think of a stroke, as the stroke of divine Love – the only
stroke that God knows about which He delivers to us when in need.
I hope you will find this helpful.

  8. Thank you very much for your testimony in your SpiritView here and for today’s SpiritView, dear Evan, which is so very important. “Attention is spiritual and comes from God”; so good to learn that!
Very long ago when I changed from Sundayschool and became a member of my church I had difficulties to pay full attention to the reading from the desk and my thoughts wandered around somewhere else because I could not really follow the topic of the reading. Meanwhile I am happy I learnt that God is my understanding, and specially because today I study the lesson sermon more thoroughly, I can pay attention quite well to it; thank God for it!♡
But to pay full attention to what another has to say is utmost important, and it’s to love my neighbor as myself. Am very grateful to have learnt this better and better after many years!
Thank you Evan, SpiritView for me is very blessing and healing! And all the helpful and inspired comments are wonderful, thanks and a blessed weekend to all!♡

  9. thank you everyone for your thoughts today so very much needed. The word neural stood out and the over riding truth “child of God”. Doctors have said the neurons in the back of mums head have died. But God could not make imperfect man. It would appear mum’s attention span has changed but this is a mortal lie and needs to be understood as an incorrect perspective of what is actually real. Thank you SV

  10. Thank you BARBARA UK. That was the first thing the practitioner said to me”it never happened”. Thank you for the reinforcing truth. Thank you Angel for sharing your experience of healing and demonstration of forgiveness. Thank you Rose for my dear wife never “experienced a change”. And Maggie thank you for the wonderful article. I just. Printed it out and will refer to it often. Thank you all for your kindness and kind thoughts. Hugs, Jim

    1. Oh dear Jim, your original comment has helped us all in reflecting on
the power of God’s divine presence. My Grandfather had also Seemed
to experience having a stroke when he was in his early 60’s. mortal mind
would imply he couldn’t move his whole side, didn’t know what year it
was, who the president was, etc. My Mom and I would go and visit him
and work with one Mind and his spiritual intelligence shone through
stronger and stronger and it eventually became that one would never have
even known of the issue. He passed on to another plane of existence at 92.
The so-called “experts” who limited his prognosis considered it a miracle
that he improved so rapidly and well. But with the Reality of the One Mind,
little mind’s “limitations” can be dissolved with the Truth of how things really
      are.

      1. Carol thank you for sharing that great demonstration, very inspiring, the power of one divine Mind when acknowledged, understood and declared.

        1. It was very powerful, Rose, to be able to see such a wonderful
transformation from something appearing to be very disturbing.
Mind/God at work is very inspiring.

    2. Hi again Jim
I discovered this from a book I bought (Amazon) 500 watching points by Gilbert Carpenter.
317 — WATCH lest you become discouraged and feel that your work in sweeping the leaves off your sidewalk has availed nothing, because there is a fresh lot waiting for you the next morning. You are expected to continue your sweeping cheerfully, until the trees have shed all their leaves.

The evidence of your problem may appear to be the same day after day; but if you do your work faithfully each day, you have done what God requires of you and the error is handled. If the same evidence appears tomorrow, regard it as a fresh crop of fears, and not the old ones you handled yesterday. Then you will have the faith to work on without discouragement, until the tree of error is bare.

The Master said, “He that shall endure to the end, the same shall be saved.”

This has helped me focus on occasion…may be for you, too? .x

  11. So wonderful to share everyone’s thoughts today. Reading Spiritview and listening to the birds outside reminds me “This is the day the Lord hath made rejoice, be glad, give thanks” and thanks is given wholeheartedly today and everyday. You can just feel the love that is real and there for everyone.

  12. A small side observation regarding spiritual attention..
I often make and read comments on SV finding it all very comforting , supportive and thought provoking. But..sometimes I find myself thinking ..’ I so agree and KNOW that”…. But I should be KNOWING it instead! A simple but oh so revelatory difference❣️

  13. Let’s color our world
    With markers bright
    Let’s not just see
    In black and white

    Let’s flower our world
    Like the harbingers of spring
    Let’s listen to the birds
In our hearts as they sing.

    : )

    1. Thank you, dear Uta. Just a few words put together out of
the infinity of words out there in the vast eternal universe
      of thought.

  14. I can’t thank everyone enough for all the spiritual thoughts and blessings shared today. Thank you.. Thank you. Thank you. Many warm hugs, Jim

  15. The blessings shared here Are so lovely, Jim ! The genuine caring for others shines
through. Thank you for your kind words, Uta and Barbara and Jb UK – your Mum
is not, in Reality, made up of blood, bones and other material elements. Her spiritual
qualities are not determined by a mortal brain. We All are guided by the One, divine
Mind and intelligence and memory of all things Good. Thank you for the saying you
mentioned, “This is the day the Lord hath made, rejoice, be glad, give thanks” is
something my Mom used to say all the time when I was growing up. At the time, it
didn’t have the same meaning as a child as it does now, but the mention of it was
delightful, then, but even more so now.
