Stay a step ahead of error

February 16, 2021 | 30 comments

A rule I like to employ to stay healthy and happy on a regular basis is to stay at least one step ahead of error.

If I get mentally lazy, or spiritually lax, and let fear, worry, anxiety, or discord settle into thought, the carnal mind might catch me off guard and surprise me with some type of suffering or misery. I know I have God to turn to under all circumstances and pray to master whatever error presents itself to me. But life is a lot easier when one avoids trouble and suffering in the first place. The way to do it, is to stay tuned into spiritual reality and aware of God’s omnipresence and omnipotence.

When you know God’s power and presence, you will not be as susceptible to believing in evil suggestions that lead to sickness and suffering. You won’t fall behind. You will stay ahead of trouble instead of falling behind and having to play “catch up.”

To know Truth is to not know error. To know Truth is to experience Truth’s protection.

Stay one step of ahead of error by knowing God’s control over your life. Know Truth and stay free of error. It’s a happier and more successful way to live.

  1. Thank you Evan. This is just what is needed right now to handle pandemic fears, and vaccination fears. To know God’s power and God’s Presence is already there before we take a step forward is such a relief and comfort! Loved this post!

  2. The Bible tells us to pray without ceasing – I see this is what keeps us ahead of erroneous
    claims to our well-being.

Before my study of Christian Science I used to wonder how on earth one could pray without
ceasing. Did it mean you had to be on your knees all day in prayer? I soon learned that
praying without ceasing meant keeping God always before our face, and living our prayers –
following the laws of goodness and love with Christ Jesus taught and demonstrated for us.
He was a perfect example of staying ahead of error, as his way of life and love demonstrated.
Little by little we can practice following in his footsteps He knew that God was in control of
our lives and helps us to be confident in this fact, and trust in God at all times.

    1. Dear Angie,
Once again your research has supported Evan’s offering this morning.
Thank you once again for supplying this link. It will help me today with listing citations for tomorrow’s Wednesday meeting, my first Zoom, off site meeting.
Taking the Truth out from behind four walls out into the great congregation.
Have a most wonderful day all my Spirit View Family.

    1. Yes M, exactly. Error is unreal, the idea that error can chase us is unreal. The idea that we can even believe that error is chasing us is false. That thought doesn’t exist in God, The One divine Mind. “Thou art of purer eyes than to see evil.” (Habakkuk 1:13)

  3. Each one of us is given a gift, a unique purpose to be expressed, from our Creator, Father Mother God. As we unwrap it, discover it, use it, we realize our on-going usefulness in the Kingdom of Heaven. “Earth’s preparatory school must be improved to the utmost.” SH 486:9
So my task is to, moment by moment, “rule out of me all sin (missing the mark); and may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind, and govern them!” Man 41:23

  4. Thanks, Evan, for another beautifully inspiring treatment. Just holding to the thought of the omnipresence and omnipotence of God can bring complete healing.

  5. Thank you Evan for this beautiful message to start my day.. And thank you Angie, for the gift of the perfect Sentinel article. It really met my need.. All the contributions today are the results of Divine Love speaking to each one children. I’m so grateful for my SpiritView family..

  6. Psalms 23. “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall of want.” An affirmation of God’s power and presence for me. Also Psalms 91.
Thank you, Evan for lifting my thought each morning.

  7. Lovely to read such inspiration everyday. Thank you Evan. So very timely to remind us that we must always listen to what God is telling us about ourselves and others first and ‘stand Porter’ at the door of thought….only welcome in Divine Minds inspiration❣️

  8. A very beloved and inspiring Christian Scientist, who had lived a long and magnufucent life, through the Depression and every conceivable challenge would say to “Stay all prayed up!” Indeed, we must!
    Thank you Evan and all.
    Perfect
    Love

  9. That reminds me of a saying I used to share with my friends at home. “I rather be one step ahead of the devil with him poking me in the butt with his pitch fork then one step behind him.” Of course, we all know the truth about error and its nothingness. The import to that statement for me is that in our choosing, doing right is always the best choice. Following the Principle of divine love and truth in life is a mindful display of our true spiritual nature.

  10. Thank you Evan and all. This has been fun to work with: “Obeying the divine Principle which you profess to understand and love, demonstrates Truth. Never absent from your post, never off guard, never ill-humored, never unready to work for God, — is obedience; being “faithful over a few things.”
(Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 116:25–29)

    1. Since we are told this is what we need to do, we know it’s possible. God would never tell us to do something we’re incapable of doing. Step by step we grow spiritually and theses commands become more and more natural. Thank you God, Jesus, Mary, Evan, Gg and all fellow pilgrims along the joyful journey!

  11. Thank you, dear Evan, for your consecrated work each and every day. So appreciated! And many thanks also for Angie for supplying supplemental readings…wonderful.

  12. “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life….”. Some years ago I learned that the word translated as “follow” in the 23rd Psalm, actually means “pursue.” So all that is behind us, following us, pursuing us is goodness and mercy, evidence of God’s unfailing love and ever presence. In that light we are always only one step ahead of good, more good, and only good. Love the reminder to stay focused and “prayed up.”

  13. Thank you Evan for your wonderful and so needed SpiritView, like always very helpful. I worked with it today in so far that I made clear to me that God is in control of everything today and all days. A man was very kind and took me under my arms to get through slippery snow to get safely to my car And am also very grateful for all the inspired comments. The article for which Angie sent the link is wonderful, but regrettably I could not print it out, although there was a print-button.
In that article the author wrote the third verse of hymn 354 which is very comforting and is the following:
“God works in us to will,
    He works in us to do;
His is the power by which we act,
    His be the glory too.”
I had an inspired evening just now, as I could listen to a lecture via Facebook online, given by Marc McCurtis about HUMILITY, and how it heals. It was really inspiring and healing and interesting, the testimonies therein! Thanks very much to God for it!

    1. Uta, I have heard Mark’s lecture on Humility and agree that it was very powerful and enlightening. One thing he mentions is that we must first go down before we can go up, meaning that we should remember that we can do nothing humanly, God is the doer, He is the omnipotent, the cause and creator, bringing all good. I believe Mark has another online lecture later this week, it may be on another topic. See the lectures page on ChristianScience.com. All the best to you!

      1. dear Rose, God gives us all all God everytime, and therefore I think I must not say it to others..
And how very inspiring and interesting is his own and the testimony of the child! It was absolute healing. I felt the healing impact and the presence of LOVE! Rose if you are on Facebook I could send you the link to the second lecture by Marc McCurtis. I also want to listen to that one, too.

      2. Hi dear Rose, I am really sorry what I wrote up here because of your so loving wishing me all the best – I meant my first rude sentence. Thank you for your love, and I do wish you the same very very heartily. God is blessing and loving us sooo much! Big Hugs to you!:)

        1. Hugs to you too Uta! Your comments are always very kind and loving and much appreciated.

I’m not on Facebook but thank you for offering to send the link. I listen to the live lectures just by visiting ChristianScience.com then click on the link called Find a Lecture. Peaceful day to you!

          1. Thank you very much, Rose, and I do also appreciate your comments very very much and it gives me a lot! A very lovely, paecefull day to you, as well!
Oh yes, you are right, all these live online lectures can of course be found on the Motherchurch online portal. 🙂
